This channel is my way to share the joy of camping, wild camping, camping in the rain, solo camping, and camping with dogs. Join me (and sometimes my dog Indi) for some amazing outdoor adventures in the beautiful, wild, New Zealand bush, mountains, rivers and coast. Being outdoors makes me feel alive. I love hiking to remote spots and the adventure of solo camping in the wilderness. I can think of nothing better than relaxing to the sound of rain on my tent, or the sight of a warm fire on a freezing cold night. The OT in AdventureOT stands for 'outdoor therapy' because that is what adventure in the outdoors is for me. My desire is to share the joy of the outdoors with you. I hope you will enjoy coming along.
Hi. It is a Kovea Moonwalker. I bought it perhaps 15 years ago, so I am not certain they still make them. Very trustworthy stove. Having the gas canister separate from the stove is helpful as you can turn the gas canister upside down when it is running low.
Loved camping in the king country bush back in the days 1980s Waituhi .. Motto, if you find wood already there to use, replace it for the next person .. Oh, how l miss those days .
Hi Cathy wonderful video just love ❤ watching you what do your family think of you going out in these conditions I think they must be very proud of you.❤❤❤❤
I'm so glad to hear it. We have such wonderful and safe places to visit. Once you get over the idea that you are alone and feel comfortable, it is very rewarding.
You are right Tess, it is confusing. I am not sure if you are a Kiwi so apologies if I over explain (lol). We have many different types of conservation areas in NZ. Only the National Parks have a blanket 'no dogs rule' (although actually there are some exceptions if dogs have formal doc 'avian avoidance and awareness training'). Many of the others (conservation parks, reserves, forest parks) also do not allow dogs, but some allow dogs who have a permit with the Department of Conservation (eg Victoria Forest Park), some allow dogs who are on lead, and others allow dogs who are 'under effective control'. It is a case by case thing in those areas so you really have to do your homework before you head out and find out the rules. In this spot I went to you cross a working farm and it is dogs on leads there, then past the farm boundary it is 'dogs under effective control' but they recommend leads as there is a lot of traps laid for predator control.
It was my first time camping up there and I was pleasantly surprised by the area. Really lovely. I love that you feel like you are there when you are watching the videos. That is exactly what I am hoping.
Hello there I love all your videos 😊 You have picked out A Beautiful location for your campsite Love the sound of the rushing water sleeping sound 😅 and it snowing I see it. Have a beautiful time enjoy your self and safe looking for the cave Mountains are so beautiful enjoy your breakfast and Indie too. Please give her a big hug for me. Take care and God bless ❤❤❤❤❤
👍👍👍 .. nice 😊. Good Evening Cathy .. Your Tent .. it reminds me of something Lady Gaga replied to, when asked what Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had said to her on her being presented to the Queen after her Royal Variety Performance, which Her Majesty had attended .. "You have a very big piano." 😁. The piano was three metres high! 😏. Caves .. always to be entered with care .. FOG's .. Falls of Ground. It pays to do some research beforehand on how to recognise loose / friable 'hangingwall' and 'sidewalls' (roof and sides). Even little rocks falling can hurt or worse. I worked in the South African Gold Mining Industry so I have some insight into this. Cathy, better safe than sorry. Hiking Poles .. experience (observing that of others), I avoid the Carbon Fibre ones and stick to Aluminium Poles. They may be a wee bit heavier, but are more robust and easier to repair in the field if need be (carbon fibre is great until it fails .. without warning). A broken aluminium pole .. a stick whittled to fit inside the pole, some duct tape (I keep some wound around each pole) and Voila! .. you have an ersatz splint 😊. A good one .. thanks for sharing and until next time then, take care .. Tommy.
That would be a very 'grand' piano indeed. Oh yes, I hear what you are saying about cave dwelling for sure. I think it is more a pipe dream than something I would end up doing because (in part) due to the things you raise. There are a lot of hazards when entering a cave, especially if you then plan to stay. I think a nice rock overhang might be more suitable. I will keep my eyes peeled on my journeys. You have reminded me of my school trip to Gold Reef City and the trip down the mine. I like your reflections on aluminium vs carbon fibre poles. Of course I bought two days ago....... 2x carbon fibre trekking poles. Oh well. Hopefully they hold up.
@@adventureot 👍😊 . Yes, 'Crown Mines' at Gold Reef City was once the largest and most productive gold mines in the region and contributed greatly to the growth of Johannesburg and the Witwatersrand. Visited it .. but we Deep Level 'Mining Ou's' considered it shallow 'grass roots' mining 😏, considering we were down past 2500m and digging deeper 😁. I'm sure that your carbon fibre poles will hold up fine .. until they 'splinter' 😏 .. hopefully never 🤞. You carry quote heavy loads which will transfer to the poles. As long as you are aware of this, all will be fine. Thanks for raising 'Gold Reef City' .. it brought back a heap of memories to mull over ..
Vivian you are keeping me on my toes with all these handle changes. Ha ha, just kidding. Glad you loved the video. Indi is lying in the sun on the porch after a big day in deep snow yesterday. She says to look out for the video this coming weekend.
The simple fact is when out adventuring solo style, you need to be extra cautious n listen to your gut feelings more. That way, you have a much better chance of making it back home safe and sound to your loved ones.
You'll be fine if you pitched your tarp on the lee side of that outcropping of trees, but I'd pin down the other side. The wind has a way of finding open sides of shelters.😄
Nice bit of wild glamping. Was an absolute delight watching your camping and exploring adventure. Indi hit top marks for cuteness (again). Thank you again for sharing.
Tent or big top? Looks like you could go 'round on a unicycle in there ;). Or play frisbee with Indi. Or cater a mid size wedding. Ok, I love big, comfortable tents. So: Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of Comfort....
Good Morning Cathy and Indy from Aus .Had a chuckle😂 watching you and Indy both inside the tent when you where putting it up ,would have been a funny sight for a fellow camper passing by 🤣loved the tent it really is so spacious also the mini insect tent inside specially loved that feature and awnings is a bonus, so happy for you it was because of the wind that made difficult to put up last time ,so just have to check wind conditions when next time if you wanted to take it again👍.The water fall Cathy was something else, sitting having your breakfast oh how much i would love to be there I am so jelly also happy for you to be able to share with us ,such a beautiful day after night of snow what more would you want 👍❤I have a Q Indy what was she transfixed on when you got back to your tent having your coffee ,she looked like a statue she was so still ,such a beautiful girl 🤗anywho thank you so very much once again for your hard efforts both you and Indy and roll on 10k sending love and blessings💞🙏
Awhh, thanks Vanetta. Hares, Indi kept spotting them on the steep hillside behind the camp. They are super speedy, and she wouldn't hurt a fly, but she loves a good game of chase.
Hi Cathy! Another great video! Always nice to see Indi! Great to be able to pitch a tent with in a tent. Nice set up! Sorry your cave idea didn’t pan out here. Maybe in another spot.
