The biggest fault of Starfield for me is that there is a framework for a good game underneath the terrible writing and lack of variety - it has a wonderful soundtrack, the game worlds do have an uncanny ability to catch your eye, building your ship and arming it to be dangerous is legitimately good fun...it's like half of the dev team was really excited to make the game and the other half barely put effort into writing a compelling story and activities for it.
@merManc

I do genuinely enjoy Starfield, but yeah, it certainly has its problems. One of the biggest becomes clear if you listen to what the Constellation members say about exploring. They talk about the thrill of being the first human to set eyes on something, to tread somewhere, to do a certain thing. Quite quickly, you come to realise that this never actually happens in the game. There is nowhere you can go where there isn't already a substantial human presence. When it comes to exploration you're never the first in this game. Not once. In anything at all. There is no boldly going where no one has gone before to be found here. And that's really a shame.
@Big_Dip1
@Big_Dip1 18 часов назад
Yeah, much as I enjoy the aesthetic of the game...once you play it for a while and realize every planet has the same abandoned outposts, it kills the idea that you're ever going to land somewhere and actually stumble on something cool - if they had another year to playtest it and add stuff, it would've been received much better (the rover should've been in the game from the start, the tracker missions)

It’s mind blowing how many gamers still spend money on Starfield, considering how low effort the game is. I’d rather spend $70 on multiple indie games which are truly propping the entire gaming industry up.
@sonnitude

Archery is good! Really good. Almost… too good if I’m honest. It’s painfully easy to shoot someone in stealth, even on legendary, hide, and repeat until death as long as you have enough ammo. So much so that I got bored VERY quickly, and the next stealth character I plan to make is gonna use daggers. Yes one handed is very much a warrior skill, but dang it I want SOME challenge to my stealth kills. Heck, I can make an illusion assassin which is always something I’ve wanted to do. As for lockpicking… yeah I got nothing. I could see it being interesting to invest in if you were going for the “insanely lucky” or “extremely thorough” thief. Cuz I was actually considering making a thief who does the stones AND roots quests, so can make a ton of poisons for the dungeons he goes into, and practically trips over SOMETHING valuable he can sell. Would probably do imperial for this, since voice of the emperor could defuse failed pickpocket attempts and they would naturally find more gold.

I started playing the game again a few weeks ago. Last time I played was about December 2023. I wanted to see what some of the big patches did. Core game issues were still there. The very recent REV-8 rover was a good addition to the game. I see people pinning hopes that Shattered Space is going to alter things and make it all better. I doubt that will happen. No Bethesda RPG expansion / DLC has ever gotten to the point that it makes the game so much better and alleviates major problems. Even the better received DLCs from Skyrim and FO4 never did anything like that. You do the expansion's featured location and content. That's fine. Then you return to the base part of the game and it's still business as usual.

Feel like I should address one point of criticism towards the video I'm seeing pop up, which is: "these are complaints we've heard before" or some variation of that. My response to this is: "yeah, that's kind of the problem". I thought it would be clear from the video itself, but feel like I should clarify here that the fact that these complaints have been brought up long ago and the issues still remain a year after launch is kind of the whole problem. It's been over a year now and so many of the things people had problems with in Starfield haven't been addressed in a proper manner. The overall message of the video is that the game has failed to improve all that much over the course of the year. Hence why I focus on both the Creation Club and Shattered Space as two possibilities of how the game could seek to improve things going forward (for better or worse) Hope this helps to clear things up a little bit

The only thing that's gonna fix Starfield is something that's never going to happen: a complete rewrite and rebalance of the game world. It's a fundamentally broken game. The storyline sucks. The mechanics suck. The world interactivity sucks. The progression sucks. No DLC or Creation can fix these. No matter what you put on top of them, the core of the game will always be irredeemably bad.

Great video - I was so eager for this game and the first time I ever pre-ordered (I know and will not be making this mistake again) - what finally turned me off with the repetition of the same POIs and the POIs (next to temples) that just broke my immersion with the game. That and the lack of interesting things to randomly discover that would lead to interesting quests or objects encouraged me to put the game away. I really would like these things to be fixed and then I would happily return to the starfield.

I agree 100% with everything you say about starfield. I like it, but I got bored of it way faster than I thought. The gameplay options are pretty good and make it more fun, the melee weapon rebalance was good, and some of the new mods are pretty cool. Eventually I will just make it as Star Wars as I can. The creation club has so much potential, but for every Bard's Expansion, you have lots of asset flips for a few quid that are pure trash, my main issues are there doesn't seem to be any quality control and refunds. If I spend money on some stupid asset flip that is busted and doesn't work or isn't what it was advertised as, I should be able to get my money back within a certain time frame. This is the same issue I have ran into with the Minecraft store with my son, he gets excited to spend his pocket money on a mod, and its craaaaap and isn't what it says on the tin, but we can't get money back.

It is a bit "wild west" but if there's money to be made you can bet they've got people working on it to make it easier/more reliable. It is kinda weird there's no feedback/rating system in the creations store or whatever it's called now. That would help a lot.

@michaelperrys4588 Like you, I rather liked the game. Definitely had its issues, but it was and is a pretty solid framework for the application of new content. With the introduction of the micro-transaction store, it should be ubundantly clear to EVERYONE that said framework is not for a better gaming experience, and it's not for modders. It is for Microsoft investors. The best mods have always been and will continue to be passion projects. Once there's a monetary incentive, quality drastically declines. I think Kinggath is a very rare exception, as he's established a reputation for quality content as a free to play modder and is looking to take his team to professional development team status. That's a far cry from Bethesda price gouging people who have already purchased their lack of content game. It's now only a question of how much more money can be reaped from consumers that already took a loss at $70 to $100. How much more will suckers pay to make their initial purchase seem viable.

I'm so anti-creations it's ridiculous. I'm so pissed that I accidentally clicked on it while trying to click load, then didn't notice until 9hr later that it had changed my save file to say [C] at the end. So now I'm stuck with that bullshit or give up 9hr of really cool and fun moments on my save and hope I can go do and find those things again on the original save. I was loving this game until the new vehicle dropped, even with creations sine I can mostly ignore them, and now they've changed other things under the hood that I had no issues with personally, and would have been fine to keep as-is. But no, somehow this is a live-service game without it being a multiplayer game. The last solo game I bought was back in like 2010. I didn't know this always online thing was even A THING for solo games. I hate it, thanks. I still want to love Starfield, but at this point, I think I only like it.

Oh yeah, and that update for a 9 year old game that broke all the $#!t right before the expected launch of a dlc sized free to play mod everyone was looking forward to. All of that AND a map for lazy explorers, AND a car 😱 What do you want, somewhere to park? Those will make excellent micro-transactions in roughly 6-24 months 👍

I can say already, Starfield for You are let down, but comparing 1 year old game to games that have years of fixes and content is kind of not fair. For example, according to steam charts: No Man's Sky 1 year after release on steam was avg. 900 at most, not counting peaks where were updates. Starfield 6.8k people play starfield on Steam. Starfield and No Man's Sky are closest to comparison in terms of what they represent other games You compared to are not even close. Both games are about exploring and making game for Yourself what You want. Fallout 76 on steam was released around 2 years after initial release that said - 6.4k avg players For Skyrim and Fallout 4 numbers did not change at all over years, more or less those are same - it's a fantasy that everyone can get in to. I agree that CC shop is cash grab, but we get not much in return, I mean for investing in pure Bethesda CC we should get more updates to game than we have but well, we will see what will change for game if anything. My hope is, that dev team will make game great. Anyway, good vids, love your build videos, and my 1 y.o daughter love Your voice when I put her to bed to sleep while I listen to some builds :D cheers!
@sundown6806
@sundown6806 11 часов назад
To that 1 year old game argument I will say this. Starfield took 8 years to develop + 1 year of content updates, which comes out to 9 years of content. No Man's Sky for example was developed in 3 years, and had 8 years of content updates, which comes out to 11 years of content. Imo that puts them pretty close to one another.
@JLM-y5g
@JLM-y5g 10 часов назад
I think it's perfectly fair. One is 9 years, the other is 11. A two year gap sounds like a lot, but it's not terribly big. Plus, by the time NMS reaches 13 years and Starfield reaches 11 years in dev, NMS will have had further reaching updates at Starfield's current cadence.

you clearly can't take criticism or take criticism on things you like. Sarge makes some very valid points here about Starfield. It's been a year and Bethesda haven't delivered what was promised and the CC is a very predatory practice. I also could be wrong here but I get the impression Sarge wants the game to do well.
@StarfieldWX-tb42
@StarfieldWX-tb42 День назад
I like the game just fine. I still agree that CC (and all systems like that with the currency bullshit) is predatory and should be straight cash values so players can understand how much they're spending and only pay for what they will be using. That's a critique on the system, not the game itself. Bethesda has also always encouraged fan mods, so it was only a matter of time until they figured out how to control the data and then monetize the mods created with that data. While I do agree part of the intent of so many empty planets was to create a massive system for modders to play in and build things for, as someone who likes the idea of exploring the void of space, I actually enjoy the emptiness. The way I see it, both players who like it empty and players who like it full can play how they want by opting out/in for mods. Play the games you like, the way you like to play them, and this is double so for solo games. Don't worry about what someone else wants to do in their game. These are critiques of *Bethesda* more than Starfield. The game is fine.

@@paulturnbull1426 I liked starfield and I can take the critisism. But the video is clearly leaning towards the negative copy paste opinion from every other channel. He completely skipped the feature that allows you to manage the different difficulty options in the game. The combat is a lot more fun now that you can eliminate the bullet sponge enemies and the same for you aswell. You can now have a lot more of carrying capacity making it less tedious. You can make the enviroment of the different planets actually a real problem, forcing you to plan ahead your trips.The land vehicle improves the core loop gameplay a lot, its not just the time it takes you to get from point A to B, its the ability to make everything you are supposed to do when you land in a planet way faster: Mining, combat, movement, scan, and exploring. Of course im not a fanboy. Stafield still has issues. POI´S mainly. We need a system that procedurally generates dungeons and enemy spawns I guess, its the only way I see a solution to that problem, either that or modders will need too add a crazy amount of POI´s to fix that. The narrative isn´t the best but bethesda has never write a masterclass in any of their games. Of course they have some good quest in every game, and that includes starfield, but its not the main point of their games. Despite that, I understand that people want better writing and thats fair. Bethesda should really put preasure on Emil or fire him if he doesn´t meet the expectations. And lets not forget that there´s clearly a problem with the space exploration itself. There is a mod right now that allows you to travel at incredible fast speed from one planet to another in a solar system in a very organic way. That means is posible at least for solar system to avoid entirely a load screen. There is another mod that tries to eliminate the load screen when you travel from one solar system to another by putting a cinematic transition, making it feel more natural. Makes me wonder why bethesda didn´t do something like that. They just needed to make a transition screen as a hidden loading screen. They´ve already did that in fallout 4 with some elevators. Now with all that said, I think Starfield is a solid 8 or 7 righ now. Its not a masterpiece, but also its not the worst garbage you´ll ever play like everyone is trying to make the game look. The core loop I think right now is good, the story its not great but its fine, i consider the faction quests better than the ones we got in fallout 4. Its a better rpg than fallout 4, of course that´s not hard to achieve, but hey, it is. The only problem is part of the exploration and some of the quests, that´s all. At the end of the day, this video clearly shows that he barely played the game. Even forgot to mention one of the best updates we´ve had to date. He only booted up the game, tested the land vehicle for a few minutes, got into CreationClub to see the prices and that´s all. He didn´t checked the new options that may seem simple but it really changes the game a lot. This is why I understand the frustration some fans of starfield have with the criticism againts the game. The ones that we actually play it know there´s more to it, but these kind of videos keep appearing like if they care about the game, but no, They just care about making fun of the newest bethesda game because it makes them more relevant for a short period of time, and because its the trend, that´s all. Sorry if my english isn´t the best. Its not my main language

We're beating a dead horse here. Did anything change when people complained about CC on Skyrim? How about FO4? No? So how is Starfield any different? By now everyone should know how the games will be fleshed out. There's no surprise. Bethesda is doing it three fold. People are buying the game, DLC and CC, and as long as people are going to do that Bethesda will continue to cash in. So who's really to blame? A company that sees an opportunity? Or the community that continues to pay for it? Either way I see it as wasted energy to complain about it.

If there was literally any personal skill behind it at all then I might be inclined to agree, but when it's just pure random chances on every attempt, no matter what, then I see no thrill. Especially when you also can just quicksave and quickload and the consequences of failing aren't anything all that interesting. I should also clarify here that it wouldn't be a 100% chance all the time, that's not what I'm talking about in the video. The point I'm making is that a master thief shouldn't have a 1 in 20 chance of failure at stealing a single gold coin, just like an amateur would.
