Recently purchased a small drone and been doing my research and was disappointed to learn War Memorial is in the FRZ now as it's my local park. Looking into the new laws and the drone code I have to say they seem absurdly over the top and poorly observed in most cases. Also, almost all drone footage I've seen must be illegal as it's almost always closer to buildings and people than the recommended limits. Hope you have some luck in getting council approved fly zones approved.
I think there is nothing to worry about. There are plenty with other places where to fly drones. It is just common sense to not fly drones around airports. New 5km rule is exactly what is needed, as old 1km rule was a joke. Any half decent drone can go more than that. 5km rule is good insurance. If someone finds hard to follow that, then don't fly. Same with 50m from or above just makes sense. It is more comfortable not just for surrounding people, it makes pilot more confident, less things to stress about.
Hi Tim - the ban is only because of the extension of the no-fly zone from Coventry Airport - I'm hoping approved council owned locations for flying drones can be established! watch this space!

Thanks for everything you have done, when I 'am landing my drone I have had people with dogs come within the 50 metre rule, do you have to abort your landing ? (remembering you might be low on power) people non flyers need to be educated .

What a cretin. I had the misfortune of working for this fool a few years ago... What a total waste of space. He spent all of his time promoting himself on social media and his videos went viral with literally DOZENS of views....
