done with "DND" well with WOTC yes, DND in general no. As i dont really feel drawn to the 5e superhero style i designed my own to keep it simple and still lots of swords, magic and monsters. May not be veryones cup o tea as it is very rules light but hey we have fun and thats all that matters. Cool vid though tanks muchly. Keep 'em Rollin'

Mothership is really fun! There is an amazing 3rd party adventure called Decagone that has a gimmick - you set a real time 10 minute timer. When it goes off, the PCs get reset back to the beginning of the time loop then timer starts again. It becomes a struggle of the players finding the right way to perfect the loop before the timer expires.
YAY DRAGONBANE & KNAVE!!! I have been so wanting to run Dragonbane since I got all my stuff from the original kickstarter. Since our 5E game has pretty much died, I'll be pitching that or Avatar Legends (another one I backed on kickstarter and need to play after all these years lol). I have the pdf of Knave, and I love it! If I was not running Shadowdark for my D&D Library Tweend group, I might run that (or even Tiny Dungeon), but the kids love Shadowdark, so I go with what excites them (and I also love Shadowdark). That Call of Cthulhu starter box is the bomb, btw!. They did a great job on that one (I love how you can use that to play, and not need any of the big rule books, since the starter set has everything you need). I love how much fun you are having in the hobby. Seeing the joy of new players is part of the soul of the hobby for me. Also, I love that your starting town would get bad reviews on fantasy trip advisor..."Town was full of hostile wild life, would not recommend".
Great suggestions. The starter boxes of Call Of Cthulhu and Zweihander are up there with the Dragonbane in regards to being crammed with RPG goodness. Chaosium's Pendragon and Runequest boxes are also full of stuff. I remember getting the Moldvay basic box with 2 books, dice, crayon. That was it. Many hours gaming though from that. But a lot of the new boxes have enough to keep you going for years. Then you have things like Cairn and Knave that have hardly any pages but are still fantastic. The hobby has something for everyone. But I think sometimes people assume it's only D&D. Keep spreading the word.
Yeah I have really enjoyed Knave a lot recently. Pretty simple and full of great great random tables. I think I heard you mention Nausica… if you have never seen that anime, give it a watch. It’s old but good and self contained in one movie.

Sorry for my brain fart! Solitary Depths is MÖRK BORG. A Thousand Empty Light is the one I was thinking of! There are also various solo rules such as Lone Star, etc.
I just wrapped up session two of three or four Mothership sessions for my October mini-campaign for my in-person group. It's my second time running Mothership and I definitely recommend it. We're using Gradient Descent, which is loads of creepy fun. Also, if my German classes taught me anything, it's that you pronounced "Mausritter" correctly. Lol
Dang! That is one heck of a haul! The ones I knew were all great choices. I recently got interested in Call of Cthulhu. The spooky stuff is cool, but if you ever want to play a lighter and quicker version of it, you can totally use the rules for Tiny Cthulhu (Gallant Knight Games) for it. I've seen a few people running solo campaigns on RU-vid (Magehammer and Solo Spelunking come to mind, as well as Wilona's cave) using the Tiny D6 rules sets. Worth checking out! Mothership would get my vote. It’s a very popular indie rpg and I’m a big fan of sci-fi RPGs. There are so many RPGs in almost every kind of genre. I believe you’re going to enjoy the discovery. To quote Picard: “I envy you: Taking these first steps into a new frontier.”
Just got my copy of Heroes of Cerulea, its a phenomenal ttrpg with a Original Legend of Zelda inspired theme. I am so excited to run it and have been drawing up some 8-bit Legend of Zelda style dungeons.
Not having played D&D 5e since 2019, I was pleasantly surprised by the layout and explanations of the 2024 version. It's superior to the 2014 version. Love the Rules Glossary. I started a solo campaign using the book.
Fun video. I don’t know if I’ll ever get as deep into MineCraft like you have but it’s fun to watch your video. Put a smile on my face when you were trying to get out of the water. BTW the creative talent between you and your spouse is amazing. You’ll never have to worry about having mittens, blankets or caps around with Tori’s crocheting skills available.
I just picked this up! And ordered copies for everyone I play with. Old-school D&D on the go! There's years of adventuring with just this book. You can take it and pick up a game anywhere.
I agree with you. The layout of the new book seems way better than the previous one. The art also looks great. A couple of observations, but you expected that, didn’t you. First, I thought they changed the way they did rolling for attributes, but zooming into the video, I could read that it’s still the same: best 3 out of 4d6. You added all the rolls when you did your 2024 character. Also you can modify your attributes (3 points to add to the attributes listed) by the background you pick. It’s the three attributes listed with the background. As for the powerful character build, I think that’s the direction D&D wants to go in. One last thing: what kind of erasable pen do you use and does the ink become permanent over time or can you erase whenever? Thanks again for the Quick Look at the new PHB.
I still feel abut Minecraft like you used to. It feels like playing with virtual legos. Watching your videos shows me, it’s much more than that. I just wonder if my creative juices are up for building houses, digging cellars and building boats. Fun watching you do it though.

This was great! I didn't realize that there was more to the Loner series. My ears perked up when you talked about the Lantern of Souls, and I was like dang! That sounds D O P E. I just started rolling up a dungeon using Perplexing Ruins' one page dungeon generator. I highly recommend it. Anyway, it sparked the idea for "The Infested Hideout of Forgotten Spirits." It will be an 8 room location with all sorts of un-dead and possibly an evil sorcerer. The lantern was the impetus to the whole thing, which is super cool and thanks for doing it. Nice review. If I only wanted to play in Kwaidani would I still need the Loner solo book or are the express rules enough? I know that Loner has a larger edition that I think adds some sample settings. While you were making your character, I was hoping you’d chose your own and name them Bruce Leeroy, The First Dragon. Looking forward to see how this turns out.

Hi there! Kwaidan is a "second generation adventure pack" as I called them. There were three of them: Kwaidan, Magic Academy and Steampunk. I released only Kwaidan, Magic Academy was deprecated, while Steampunk evolved in "Cog & Compass", which belongs to the third generation where I make the statement to release only standalone games, now called "Geared Towards Loner games". Since Kwaidan was released as an "Adventure Pack" I assumed that the player needed the Core Rules, but I supplemented it with the Express Rules to make it standalone. It was a first attempt to make a Geared Towards Loner game, only if I knew back then! TL;DR: you can play Kwaidan without the Core Rules. But the Core Rules pdf is free, so why don't you take a look anyway? 😁

I would love to hit up REAPERCON, and other smaller conventions. My first con was in 1984 in Atlanta, and then another in 1985 in Macon. So glad to hear you had a good time. Congrats on getting the game audio and your mic audio playing evenly in the broadcast (for the most part until the end). While watching you play Ghost of Tsushima did you notice that, while you were running around, the ground highlighted in yellow was an indicator of where the flaming arrows would fall. At least that what it seemed to me. Plus surprised you channeled SLJ near the end of the video. Fun video.
