Queen Merika obviously low diffs everyone but outside of that its very interesting sister friede vs lady maria in particular would be visually peak ice vs fire
One thing that could be mentioned for the girls of ds2 if not the entirety of the souls games is the fact that - things like decapitation are at best a general nuisance that can be worked around rather than a solid win. The hollows might just keep resurrecting before malenia can finish them off (all-a the gaintdad meme) similar to what sister frieda does in her bossfight. Which puts into question how affective scarlet rot would be especially if their on fire due to being ashen or using immolation, or igniting their blood. What would happen if malenia gets hollowified? There’s alot more room for speculation than there initially seems to be. (Cool to seeya lore master)
Seath is like Batman, what he lacks in power he makes up for with contingencies and allies. He is the reason the Everlasting Dragons lost the war, so it's arguably him. If we're getting into pure power dynamics, I mean Gransax is city sized and could use red lightning to nuke people. Placidusax was an Elden Lord and he's missing three heads when WE encounter him. Prime Placidusax was undoubtedly well-deserving of his title of "Dragonlord". Of course then there's Midir...who in addition to being an everlasting dragon (or the closest thing we see to one) also gained the power of the abyss and is the hardest dragon to fight in any of these games. My ranking goes: 1. Seath (with prep time) 2. Prime Placidusax 3. Gransax 4. Midir 5. Kalameet.
If influence counts as power, then The Painting Woman...because she has Uncle Gael's loyalty, and he killed the whole world for "his lady's painting". If we're talking pure combat ability in Dark Souls, I'd say the Witch of Izalith is the strongest in personal might and influence as she possessed an entire Lord Soul and was way stronger than any of the gods from Gwyn's lineage minus Gwyn himself. In Elden Ring, it's unquestionably Marika. Not only is she technically Radagon as well (meaning she's just as strong as he is), but Marika was the vessel for the Elden Ring and literally had the power to command Horrah Loux, wipe out the fire giants, fight the ancient dragons to a standstill and an eventual truce, etc. Plus she's the mother/father of every major demigod in the Lands Between. If we combine known power with the characters' feats it goes: 1. Marika 2. Witch of Izalith 3. Malenia 4. Friede 5. Lady Maria. 6. Rennala 7. Tomoe...etc. One could argue that Priscilla, Gwynevere, Lannseax are quite powerful as they're gods and an ancient dragon. I'm sorry to say this, but none of the human characters are remotely close to the strength of the gods in these games. (The Player character doesn't count in this equation).
Yeah the human characters are kinda weak but that's what makes them likeable haha. And yeah the witch was strong, although she did have her daughters too. She probably didn't NEED them to cast all that magic, we just never saw her acting independently. Again, it's likely she could, in the same way that Marika likely can do anything Radagon can as they are the same person. But at the same time, it is still supposition. Marika could well have been ineffectual at fighting and needed Radagon for that. Even though he's her. Magic and alchemy is weird. Hopefully we find out more about her this week in Shadow of the Erdtree! I wonder how Anor Londo Vs Leyndell would go.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy that a bunch of wizards managed to fend off the tree squad, twice. Most of the demigods all fought each other to stalemates, but Rennala wasn't a demigod I think. And she only had a great rune after Radman gave her one
Strung up like laundry. But on a more serious note, we'll learn more about her in a few days when the DLC is out. Maybe we'll learn something useful about her abilities and powers. Right now all we know is that she favoured mimicry and she was a numen who possibly sought the Elden Ring to save a dying people. Long lived, seldom born and all that.
Would that even work? Like say Jason Bourne sniped her from a mile away, would her death trigger a "bloom"? Is it safe to even risk? I feel like I would strap her to a rocket and send her into space. Let Kars deal with her.
She is indeed. She'd stand a pretty good chance too, if this were just the regular human type characters. Her, Sieglinde, all those without any powers etc
I'm a middle aged guy, fairly successful with a decent job and all that stuff, and I absolutely love stupid conversations like this to death lol. I love how petty some people can get arguing their point over made up characters, more videos like this, please!
Looks wise, she's based on Maria, so there's that at least. The Great Ones generally aren't amazing fighters from what the game demonstrates. I don't think the doll is about to bust a move and start going ham with a katana on us.
I like to imagine it's an ability born out of Priscilla's draconic-halfbreed heritage (dragons aren't even 'alive' in Dark Souls, in the traditional sense, they are as alive as a stone is, I think) that is effectively like an immortal-killer. Such as the Gracious Tears from Sekiro or Destined Death from Elden Ring.
Facts man. Friede is arguably harder than Gael or Midir for some people in Dark Souls. Maria IS the hardest boss in Bloodborne, and Malenia is without question the hardest boss in Elden Ring and it ain't even close. I mean lifesteal, hyperarmor, crazy speed, two full health phases, scarlet rot status effect, and of course that TERRIFYING waterfowl dance that has probably accounted for over 50% of the combined deaths for every death in Elden Ring.
Let's see what we get in the DLC. maybe we'll fight the shadow of Marika and she has like 5 phases, finally beating the current record. (I think Friede? At 3 phases)
@@SilverMont That was one of the hot takes I remember seeing floating around social media back when "Elden Ring" came out. I didn't look much into it beyond a casual glance and an eye roll though.
@@SilverMont I tried to post a link to an article I found, but because RU-vid sucks it keeps getting deleted, so you can just google "Elden Ring is s3xist" if you're really that curious.
1. The “Curse of Undeath” is just masterful to me. Ancient humans drew power from the dark, the fading of the fire ushers in the Age or Dark, i.e. the Age of Humanity whereas the Age of Fire is the Age of the Gods. Gwyn placed the Darksign on humans which appears once the fire starts to fade. I think humans as humans gain power from the fading of the flame, they become immortal, as the gods are immortal, but the Darksign causes people to slowly leak their humanity until they become mindless, soul-starved hollows. So he tricked people into thinking the the fading of the fire creates the “curse of undeath,” and the only known way to stop it is for humans to sacrifice themselves to prolong the Age of Fire. Again, it’s so masterful. Now Gwyn feared the dark so much that he was even willing to sacrifice himself to stop it. You could say that it was selfish, that he did it to preserve his power, but he did not benefit from his choice. The series really does make it ambiguous if the Dark is good or bad, Gwyn’s choice though makes me wonder if he was just scared of the unknown or if he knew something that we do not. 2. I like themes, so I prefer the idea that the Nameless King is “Gwynfor;” this coincides with Gwynevere and Gwyndolin, although Filianore in DS3 throws a monkey wrench into things and may lend credence to his name being Faraam, which is was implied to be in DS2. Now as cool and epic as I think the Nameless King is, Andre being him makes a lot of sense in hindsight and works well both thematically and would had made a great twist, this unassuming undead blacksmith is actually a disowned god in disguise. There were also possible clues of the missing blacksmith god being Andre iirc as he could also create divine and occult weapons, and Gwyn’s son also only respected armament. Maybe the blacksmith god “went missing” when Gwyn’s son left? If they went through with the original concept, hopefully “Andre” was just an alias and his name was actually Gwynfor, lol. 3. Clearly the canon endings of DS1 and DS2 is that someone linked the flame. For DS3? This is interesting; we know for sure that people are probably going to flee to the Painted World, but what happened in the outside world? I personally think the Lord of Holllows ending is canon, it was the secret ending that required extra steps and may be the third option that Aldia was talking about in DS2. The Lord of Cinders ending makes it look like the Age of Fire isn’t really sustainable anymore, but the Lord of Dark ending may be bad as well because the continual linking of the flame may have distorted the Dark, and Aldrich may have further corrupted it as well. In time, the balance may be restored and the cycles will continue again, as the Firekeeper suggested.
Yeah I feel that, if we take Dark Souls (1) in a vacuum, Andre being the "lost" Firstborn makes a lot of sense. As for NK, I do prefer the idea of him having a "Gwyn_" name, too.
I don't think the being that was once known as Marika would be able to defeat Malenia in it's state during events of Elden Ring. Malenia is clearly strongest combatant. Rani might have been more powerful if we considered all the assets at their disposal, since she has uncanny ability to inspire loyalty in others, but 1v1 Malenia takes it easily. And considering how about 50% of ER fans believe she's broken as a boss design I don't think any other heroine comes anywhere close to her power level. Maybe The Witch of Izalith if she was in her original, non-tree form.
In terms of "skill" as in martial prowess, Malenia and Radahn are probably the best amongst the pantheon, yeah. Marika's fighting abilities are currently unknowable, but if she was able to just blast out HolyNukes or whatever or bonk people with her hammer, whilst also being functionally, immortal, that might trump skill. Radahn was able to cut Malenia's arm off and push her to the point of using a big ol' poison nuke, seemingly without even using his gravity magic. People dismiss him because he's kinda easier to fight, gameplay wise, but there's a reason people in the world call him the mightiest demi-god and story-wise it's the Tarnished + a small army taking him on. Kinda makes you wonder what would happen had he not been driven 'hollow' - what would his role have been in the game?
@@SilverMontthe fact you treat rot as some sort of normal poison is very weird😂 I always saw Malenia's rot as a literal liquifier nuke. Everything that gets rotted specifically by Malenia literally melts on the spot. Radahn only survived because of his great rune having some sort of fire protecting him. And where does this idea of Radahn not using his gravity magic against her??😂😂 Its never stated he didn't use it...
I'm just saying that when we see them fight, the only parts of the fight we see are Radahn cutting her arm off and then she nukes him. So yeah he could've used magic, we just didn't see it. Anyway, from a resistance perspective I think it's fair to count poison and rot as the same as obviously rot doesn't have an exact equivalent in the others. Same way toxic doesn't in ER. That was just a random Radahn tangent, at any rate.
Agreed. She possessed an entire Lord Soul so she's almost as strong as prime Gwyn was. No other woman comes close to her in Dark Souls as we know the Lords were the most powerful beings since they defeated the everlasting dragons and created the Age of Fire.
IIRC it says "even the gods feared it" which you could take as an implication it could kill them, but not confirmation. The point I was making in the video is that we don't know, exactly, what it is or what it can do.
I have a fantastic desktop image of Melania vs lady Maria vs sister friede By far the most powerful females of all the souls series at least combat related (if we consider the lore it is another story) For me the choice is malenia No doubt She is the only boss in all of the entirety of soulsborne that forced me to respek my charchter to a build specifically designed to tackle her insane fight. Her lifesteal effect that constantly heal her during the fight and the waterfall dance homing kill combo made her insanely difficult even for people with extensive souls experience No other boss ever forced me to do something like that aside her Also She spawned one of the best souls legend let me solo her No other boss has this honor
I'd argue Marika is actually way more powerful than Malenia (seeing as how she's her mother and father). When we fight Radagon/Marika it's literally a husk of them with a shattered Elden Ring. Imagine trying to fight Marika when she had the full Elden Ring. She'd be literally invincible. I mean you can't convince me she wasn't a complete badass if she could command a gigachad super warrior like Horrah Loux.
I guess I got lucky as it wasn't too hard for me! I didn't even need to do a long quest chain and fight Astel. But on the other hand, I didn't get a moonlight greatsword from it.
The fact they returned the original demon's souls version of the weapon to elden ring is amazing. I used this on a strength intelligence build on ps3 demon's souls, wore the witch set and moon infused it, used only soul sorceries for magic, no fire. Was my favorite build in demon's souls, i also used a moon infused greatsword alongside it. I may just mimic the build in elden ring some day cause why not lol. Would be interesting since theres literal moon spells now.
Why do you think it makes you bigger? Nothing in the game suggests that iirc. None of the other shardbearers are that large, and the tarnished can possess all of them and is still tiny.
A thought comes to me about Filianore, what really happened when we woke her up. Maybe it wasn’t her slumber that preserved the spell that kept the Ringed City out of time, but her faith. The enchanted slumber kept her ignorant that Gwyn never intended to return for her. Her faith may have corroded in time if she was aware of the eons that passed. When we awaken her, she must’ve fully expected her father to be there, but he wasn’t. Wordlessly, she realized Gwyn broke his promise, and that realization broke her faith and herself. Similar to Davy Jones, after serving 10 years as ferryman of the drowned, found that Calypso broke her promise as well, and it destroyed him.
Im pretty sure linking the fire creates a time paradox thousands of years pass til it begins to flicker out and the same events repeat with variations in it. New souls are added slowly overtime so the soul of cinder wouldnt be the peak of all the linkers of the flame but a shadow of there strength that is powerful due to the amount of linkers not because of any one in particular
Elden Rings world is a world where astrology exists. There is no reason to believe he didn't legitimately hold back the stars which are tied to destiny. And we get a physical example of it being literal after astel falls into the ground nuking the mist woods. Radahn is just that powerful only bested because Malenia nuked him at point blank range.
Right, an Astel falls into Limgrave. But that isn't the same thing as a sun/star. That's the main point I'm making. Radahn held back "the stars" but 'stars' in this instance most likely refers to those space-faring entities. Not giant balls of plasma.
Bluepoint got ahold of silent hill 2 another game that requires a respect and understanding of the atmosphere. It's like Arnold Schwarzenegger getting typecast as the scrawny bullied nerd.
@@SilverMont tbh I didn’t even realise there was a line in the game that said her name haha, I just know ciaran is the Irish spelling of the name kieran. People tend to pronounce it like See-aren
