I’m from New Hampshire born and raised in! I’m always coming home as a full timer now retired !I have a seasonal site for 5 months of the year in New Hampshire but heading south for winter. What’s my best approach moving forward for choosing domicile, I’m leaning towards escapees in Texas to make it a legitimate domicile?
Does the Escapees satellite office in South Dakota have a building yet? The last time I checked the address, I saw a photo of a pile of dirt, with a sign saying, "under construction". All mail addressed to your South Dakota or Florida address reaches you later as it has to be sent to Texas and then gets resent again to where your parked your RV Same thing with the Florida escapees satellite office. I had escapees mail forwarding in Florida but I changed to a South Dekota mail forwarding company in South Dakota when I moved there because I didn't want late escapees mail. While in Florida my absentee ballot arrived late but fortunately I was in Florida to go to a voting station! Escapees is the only mail forwarding company that makes ALL RVer's mail go to Texas first, then remailed again! got tired of late mail.
The best source of information on the subject I've seen so far. One thing missing here is "dual residency". For example: a vehicle is registered in one state but health insurance in another.
I'm an over the road trucker looking to change my license from PA to TX for domicile. I'm ending my apartment lease next month and don't have a vehicle. I don't own any property and I don't have an RV either. Is it possible for me to get this done?
I’m doing the same. You still need to go into the DMV and prove residence especially with a commercial license. Get a storage unit, get a boat or golf cart! They’re really hard ass….about class A.
Wht doesn't Escapees have a separate " Mail Center" in South Dakota and Florida rather than a satellite campground that resends the mail to Texas, causing unnecessary delays.
When you sign up for an SD or FL address, you also receive a Texas address straight to the mail service avoiding any delays. Most places only need this mailing address and you will only have a few official items that need to be sent to your SD or FL address. Even the Florida DMV will send items directly to TX. Setting up separate mail centers would involve a lot more cost that we don't want to pass on to you. We have found maintaining one central hub the most cost- and time-efficient solution.
@@EscapeesRVClub Not true. If your trying to establish residency in Florida or South Dakota, your driver's license, vehicle plates, and vehicle insurance card has to be sent to your address in the satellite offices in those States, and then the satelite offices remails them to Texas, then back to you, causing a delay. Persinal mail may be sent directly to Texas, but the legal mail has to go to the address you want as your domicile.
Added note: The initial paperwork can be filled out with the help of Escapees mail forwarding but but again, the satelite campgrounds in Florida and South Dakota never send you anything directly. They send everything to Texas first. I almost did not vote in the last Presidential election because my absebtee ballot arrive back in Florida two days before the election!
I'm preparing to sell my house in MD and domiciling in TX while I travel overseas. Your comment about Maryland and $45K in taxes scares the heck out of me! I will definitely reach out to you. I don't expect to be in the US when the house sale closes, so that could be an issue if I become a Texan too soon.

@@berniekeene868 I'm not sure if you meant to reply to me. I'm by no means the expert. But I'm planning to use Escapees in TX in February or March. The issue I commented on was related to MD, which turns out is NOT an issue really, since there's a form MD residents need to fill out if they've lived in MD more than I think 2 years. In my case it's been nearly 17 years. I know nothing about KY.
I'm in NC and will soon sell my house to be full time. I want to use Tennessee as my domicile but no one talks about that or seems to have a good Mail service for Tennessee address. I don't know if I can stay in Tennessee in and RV park and get domicile there or really anything about it. Everything seems geared to SD, FLA, and TX and I will never visit any of those states...
Don't forget about FQHCs (Federally Qualified Health Centers). You can look them up in your area. Your tax dollars have paid for these your whole life without knowing it ☺️ They cannot turn you down for any reason, you also don't need ID (a number of undocumented individuals go to the one in our town with no ID), do have a sliding scale. And if you're unable to pay they are legally obligated to not turn your account over to a collection agency.
I live in Texas now, DFW area. I want to be a nomad. I want to travel and not be tied to any state. I would rather do South Dakota. Only because in Texas you have to get your vehicle inspected and register car yearly which means I would have to drive into Texas yearly to take care of this. But in S Dakota you don’t need to do register your car yearly? I have more family on E coast. I want to do most travel in Florida. I guess I could stay in Texas, travel and just come back yearly for car registration
If you can answer, do I need to register car yearly in person? Can I get my car inspected in another state and get my car registered online and have the sticker mailed to me so I don’t physically need to be there?
We will be transitioning from our home to an RV in just under a year. I've just started looking into these kind of things. If you own no property or investments, no potential contested wills, conflicts, etc... how much "proving" of domicile location do you need to do? I'm looking at Florida, my sister lives there and will allow me to use her address.
Is Livingston TX the only place in Texas? I'd like to start in Air BnBs and short leases in Texas until I learn this massive state. Is this possible? Can I do this at any RV park? Does renting a proper apartment ruin this or upset this?
Do you mean you'll be living in short term rentals/AirBnBs? If so, no, those wouldn't count towards establishing a domicile because they are intended to be temporary, non-residential lodging. Some RV parks will allow you to book a month or more at a time, but you will still want to do more of the things in Susie's list to strengthen your domicile claim. Renting an apartment in the state you intend to call home could be helpful, though, as they are intended to be long-term residential dwellings.
So this information is for people who actually want to move and stay in another state ? I’m half way thru the video and it’s confusing to me. I want to travel and just be a resident of another state for tax purposes etc…
It's possible, but not recommended. The person in the towed car (assuming you mean a motorized RV and towed) would have to understand the directions and what is needed perfectly because it would be easy to go too far and hurt something. Patience is the best course of action in this situation.

Been looking at Tennessee. Looks like no income tax, no estate tax, no min period for domicile, relatively central to where I want to travel around. Is there a reason it's not higher on the lists I am seeing? I am not actually planning on RVing, but will slow travel the states for a while (AirBNB) then probably move overseas...
Tennessee requires that you show proof of residency, utility bill, rental contract etc. A friend of mine made it work using a UPS PMB but he was working and used a pay stub. . TN has low Registration fees an 8-year Driver's License and low auto insurance rates relative to Florida.
thanks... I was able to get my florida drivers license and I'm on my way to being an official citizen... I still have to got file at the tax office but I was a bit overwhelmed and decided to do it next month...

My top priorities are no income tax, no retirement tax (I have a 401k), no requirement to be physically present in state for long, no vehicle emissions or safety inspections. I'm particularly interested in FL and TN. Can you offer any spreadsheets you may have showing a side by side state comparison as I'm sure you created at some point? Or any websites that you found very good at what I'm after? PLEASE SHARE YOUR HELP AND WISDOM AS I REALLY NEED IT!!!

Lots of van dwellers and car dwellers that have turned their vehicles into campers always ask if they can use virtual addresses or UPS address to establish domicile.
Bogus! Just spoke with FCIS representative. FCIS will not insure building your own RV. My E450 is considered a commercial vehicle (weight class). When I state my intent, they don't believe me (underwriters). They will insure a "factory built" RV- not a BIY. Also won't insure if more than 30 days on road annually. They are "sorry, we can't help you"!
