Gearhead Garage is a webseries created to show the connection developed between gearheads and their projects. To shine a light on beautiful builds and passionate owners. We don’t discriminate between domestic or import, old or new, or what type of vehicle it is. If it was built with passion - we’re interested in it.
oddly enough I found this because the video at the 1 second mark was the backdrop on an abandonware site for an old snap on game called gearhead garage from 1999 lol, i was like who did they steal this picture from and it led me to your channel
I get people coming up to me all the time commenting on the car, its crazy, To me its just a car that I very much enjoy driving and modifying. I forget that the car has a cult like following and people of all ages seem to know what it is and absolutely love it. It feels weird when people whip out there phone to take a picture of video of your car like its a famous celebrity.
My first question, how the fuck does anyone afford to do this kinda shit? I've been a hardcore MK3 Supra fan since I was 14 which was 12 years ago, I've owned one and never got the shell running because I couldn't afford to. Here I am 8 years after owning my first one and I've never even seen one in person up close and with the rising prices I'll definitely never own one. I make almost $50k a year and that's not enough when you live in California
@@gearheadgarage6156 ended up going staggered setup on mine 18x9.5 on the rear and 18 x 8.5 on the front. 285 tires on the rear and 245 tires on the front
@@gearheadgarage6156 Holy crap that fits?? I have a set of 18x9.5 in the closet, but I didn't think they would fit. I'd have to check the offset though. Do you have any fender mods?
@@gahbah274 Personally I've done zero fender modifications. Though I do experience some rubbing when I'm hard cornering and I hit a bump in the road. But they do clear control arms!
That was a kit that I had drooled over for about a decade. The brakes needed to be changed but I didn't want to go with an OEM setup. I also wanted a setup that I didn't have to piece together. All of that, on top of ARZ being interested in partnering together made it all happen!
Thanks so much for the kind words! This is a little passion project, so when I have time to devote to it, we create content! We have another episode shot and it's in the editing phase now. Thanks again!
I have an mkiv for sale at a dealer here and they wont sell it to me unless i come up with 20% down ... I told the guy i make $100k per year, i can afford the monthly payment but they wont sell it to me without 20% down ... Do you have any idea how much that sucks ... a car you can easily afford monthly but they wont let it go without that 20% down .. So mad right now ...
@@gearheadgarage6156 yes it does suck. I am the person that does not save (very much), i spend my $$ and enjoy my life and my toys. What good is saving and saving $$ if your not alive to spend and enjoy it ?? Anyway, i found a 98 Supra from a local guy back 7 months ago. With less miles and was un-modified in any way.
Kinda true steps but in my case if you have the big vision I would start with the bigger goals like an engine swap. That way you get the bigger problem out of the way and you have a solid foundation moving forward. Take that big step first and the little steps get easier. Dont end up like me with everything pristine but still no engine swap and no more funds of that kind to do the swap especially now I dont want to do it because the paint is just mint.
Thanks! We love to make them. When we can carve out some time from our schedules we'll get another one out! We have one filmed that's in the editing process now.
Hey so um, I’m kinda new to all this car stuff and I really want to get into this sort of stuff, I don’t know where to start or how to start even. My instagram is @hxsaan if anyone wants to help out, or give me some guidelines
They have been around for years and so have Driftmotion, now that I’m starting a new project I’ll consider this kit. I’m curious on why you didn’t choose the 6 piston calipers and how this kit is designed to work with the factory proportioning valve brake bias. Lastly, will you install the rear kit from AZ? The parking brake and aftermarket rotors would be interesting to see get installed. Maybe a future drag kit for 15 inch wheels would be nice. P.s. Subscribed!
Thanks so much! Good questions. First, truly it was the cost of the 6 piston. The 4 piston was a stretch for my wallet at that time. I'd love to do the rears at some point, and ARZ has expressed interest in us doing another video about it as well. The proportioning valve question: ARZ is really fantastic about explaining their kit. Shoot them an email from their site and I'm sure they'll get back to you.
"Start with the small things" lmao ignored that big time. I bought a 2jz without having intentions of doing a swap lol. (It was gte vvti rebuilt for $1500) stupid cheap.
the stock brakes are plenty for the car. I've locked up the front brakes when I slammed on the brakes. Though I do plan to swap to a 4 or six piston calipers....
@@gearheadgarage6156 eventually i would like to have 4 piston, but considering the tires can't keep from locking with stock brakes, ill have some upgrading to do
Excellent video, Nick. Top notch content. I hope you do more like this for the mk3. I'm eyeing one of the ARZ kits myself. I've only heard fantastic things from folks with those brakes.
Thanks so much, Andy! That means a lot coming from you. Can't wait to see the paint job video! As for the kit, it really is awesome, man. I liked that I could purchase everything in one kit and that the build quality was top notch. Arizona Performance was great to work with, and any time I needed a question answered, he was right there ready to help.
Still come back from time to time to watch this episode and was pumped to see the willwood install video. As a mkiii and mkiv owner, this video is just awesome and gives tons of ideas 🤙🤙
You know, I can't recall specifically. The car belongs to Zach who owns/operates the US branch of ECUMaster USA. Great guy and I'm sure he'd be happy to let you know!
Really well put together videos! I also have a MK3 Supra that I’m currently finishing with a 2JZGTE controller with an ECUMASTER EMU Black . It’s cool that you were able to get the president of ECUMASTERS included.
