He tried to counter but failed. Might be wrong but I think he has a mentality that he can take those kicks & find that opening to counter back. Which he eventually didn’t sadly.
Grappling his leg might seem easy but it's actually not he already kicking if he tries to grap his leg he can leave his head wide open and get knocked out so needs to think on protecting his head and also he's thinking about a lot of other things like how to retaliate with a punch so thinking about all of these in a fight can make you forget allot of things you learned I actually box I Spard my friend once and he's a kick boxer and I thought it would be easy I told him all i have to do is pressure you but I absolutely got destroyed 😂😂
Well said. Grabbing the leg is one option to counter, but it does open up the possibility of a knockout head kick. Nong-O is at a very high level, his striking is mixed with level changes and feints, making it extremely difficult to time the attack and respond.

Rodtang had a full round of muaythai to beat demitrious Johnson but he can't stop DJ, and in the 2nd round which is MMA Dj won by submission, so Dj is a better fighter and a more complete fighter. Rodtang can't beat dj even in his own game (muaythai)
For sure DJ being a professional MMA fighter let alone the GOAT of MMA it no surprise he sub Rodtang in his first MMA round. DJ also stand toe to toe and trade some shots for a round of Muaythai so definitely he beat Rodtang.
