My name is Adun Olurin and I'm a 4th-year medical student studying at the University of the West Indies! My goal for this channel to create a space where medical students can come and feel seen! I am definitely not a perfect med student! My hope is that through my transparency, you'll have a friend in this lifelong journey toward becoming a physician. Welcome! And thank you so much for visiting my channel!
My comment is a response to@3aiman391who said " MBBS degree holders are missing four years college education. You can enter in MBBS degree after 12 grade or High school in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh for weak students with money" I'm not sure how the MBBS programs in India and Pakistan is assessed. However The MBBS program in UK is not for "weak" student with money. You can't get into MBBS program in UK from 12th grade. A levels is 13th grade which is equivalent to first year in most US Universities. For high school students to gain admission into MBBS program in UK, they need to be taking College Level courses to satisfy the PreMed require in the sciences. There are medical school students in UK who has masters and PHD who still study medicine at Undergraduate level as Graduate Entry and obtain the same MBBS with their cohorts who gained admission with A-levels, Foundation, Bachelor or Masters qualifications. For example a US high school graduate who wish to gain admission to Uk medical school must have excellent academic record in honours programs in addition to obtaining AP Chemistry and other 2 AP course in sciences with Grades 555 or 554.or A*AA in chemistry , Biology, Physics or Math in A Levels. Students who complete first year undergraduate in US , Canada may apply for admission to the MBBS program in UK provides the meet all the subject requirements at 3.5 GPA Excellent Students who do not meet subject specific requirements may be offered an Foundation year where they complete an Accelerated Foundation course in a range of subjects such as Chemistry , English for Medical Sciences, English for Academic and Professional Development, Scientific Communication in Medicine, Biological and Chemical Systems, Body Systems, Numeracy, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Enquiry-based learning. Note Each school has its own subject preferences. At the end of the Foundation year (0) they're equipped with Investigative Skills using Mathematics, analytical and problem-solving skills, computing and the use of statistics, data analysis, evaluation and interpretation project management, numeracy, organisation and time management, oral and written communication and team working Additionally, they must also passing the MMI or other interviews, sit and pass one of these Aptitude test (at high band) UCAT, BMAT, GAMSAT in order to receive an offer to study the full 5 year medical course.
I have a cousin who never studied much, we studied together but she gives most of her time to her phone than her studies after writing the USMLE exam last month she passed and i failed😢, i asked her how she did it, just found out she got help from Mr Richard
Hi ! I'm studying in Tajikistan but I'm from Pakistan. Our university offers two programs : 6 years MD & 5 years MBBS. Although 5 years MBBS is not its local degree. So if i do 5 years MBBS... Then, will it be accepted by UK, US or other European countries Medical councils ?
MBBS degree holders are missing four years college education. You can enter in MBBS degree after 12 grade or High school in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. whereas to obtain MD degree you need to complete four years degree before applying for four years MD degree program. MBBS degree holders never take MCAT exam. In India or Pakistan you can get admission in MBBS program even though you are a week student as long as you have money. Majority of private medical schools give you admission even if you are a C grades student.
It doesn't work quite like that here, in the Caribbean. Personally, I have a 4-year Bachelors of science degree in animal biology- which contained my premed prerequisite courses and a lot of other "fluff" courses lol. I also sat the MCAT (because I was in the US for undergrad and wanted to pursue MD) before attending medical school in the Caribbean (to obtain my MBBS degree). However, I did have classmates that didn't do a 4-year degree prior to entering our MBBS program. They all had to do a preliminary course that allowed them to cover all the prerequisites necessary to enter into medical school. They were not deficient in any area prior to entering and they're competent doctors today. Most are better than me! LOL So, I wouldn't say that they are "missing 4 years." It is unfortunate that India/Pakistan rewards cash over merit when it comes to training physicians. It shouldn't be that way. But, I hope this helps.
I am going to complete my premed courses this year at AAIMS, Black River and wanting to get into UWI, but I don't know about the cape or CSEC or BGCSE. I'm a foreign student from India, I'm capable pf entering into UWI, but as you said I don't know if UWI takes our med school, AAIMS a competitive one. So I'm confused overall, can you help me..?
They have a list of prerequisites on their site, and i think they have special admission criteria. If you’re in doubt, call or email admissions and see what they can do.
