hey friend first of all beautiful birds and aviary second of all i have a question do your gauldians raise their chicks by their own or you help them out cos I've heard they don't feed their young and you'll have to switch their eggs with other birds like the society finch
Hello, thanks for the compliment. Gouldians raise their chicks by their own. They are good parents and feed their young. I got kolonie breed, so the young also help there parents with feeding the next nest. I keep the young chicks about 8 months with the parents after the moult I will selecting them for sell and the one i keep for breeding. So if you buy from a good breeder there is no problem at all

Hello thanks for your compliment. It's not that big aviary. The L-vorm is 3x2x1 mtr. But like the see-through posters makes it more spacious. I allow visitors, but unfortunaltely I will be on holiday in half July/ august. Have a nice weekend. Remco
Hi Emily, I did clean the turf every two weeks with a high pressure sprayer. But it wil get green after a while, green algea. So about two years ago, I build a water stream in my aviary. It is great to see, and I use a filter and plants so the water keeps beter clean. Mijn gouldamadines blijven het hele jaar buiten, maar ik heb wel een geïsoleerd nachthok ( houten schuur) waar ze in en uit kunnen vliegen. Ook doe ik begin december de volière isoleren met doorzichtige kanaalplaten. ( zie filmpje winter klaar maken ) In de schuur hangt een klein kacheltje, maar die slaat alleen aan als het onder de 5 graden komt. De vogels kunnen tegen de kou, maar wel uit de tocht houden. Ook zorg ik dat ze naar de winter toe, meer vet houdend voer krijgen. Mijn vogels weten niet beter, maar die zijn ook hierin geboren. Koop geen vogels die van binnen kweekkooien komen, die zullen het niet redden.
Sorry voor de late reactie, ja mijn Gouldamadine zitten het hele jaar in deze volière. Maar er zit wel een schuur met nachthok aan vast zodat ze zelf erin of eruit kunnen. Ook doe ik in de winter de volière wind dicht maken met plexiglas platen. Maar de meeste slapen buiten ook al is het koud. Let wel op bij aanschaf van de goulds dat ze koud kweek zijn en natuurbroed.
No way, it's the parents Who raise them. They will stay all together for at least 1 year. All the young and parents. Thats colony breed. After the first moult I will select and sell.

Very nice in your enclosure!!! It looks like a paradise for finches) I understand that the plants in your cages are natural. What types of indoor plants can be placed in a large cage so as not to harm the health of finches?
Hallo, the plants are for outside and will survive during winter. It is a Ivy , Called Hedera ( Atlantis ivy) also conifer and wild grasses and Ferns. These will not harm the birds. Thanks Remco

I work in a nursing home and they have an aviary and we have a pair of ghouldians and they just had babies we can't wait to see them it's amazing all the residents just love them

Your birds look amazing. I'm hoping to get an aviary for Gouldians soon. Do your birds stay in the aviary throughout the winter? Do they have access to a heated birdroom so they can go back and forth between the aviary and birdroom? I'm hoping to use a similar set up for my aviary -protecting the aviary with plexiglass or double glazing and giving access to a heated birdroom here in the south UK.
Hello, thanks for your reaction. Yes my birds stay outside during winter, but can go in and out to a aviary inside. I do not heat this but isolatie the shed. I have a small heater there if the temperature drops below 10 degreas inside it will heat a little bit, but not warmer then 10 degreas it will turn off again. The Goulds do not have problems with the cold, but you don’t want them in draft so i use plexiglass. I was planning on having my birdroom warmer than 10C so very good to know what they can tolerate - you're birds certainly look healthy so you must be doing something right! Do you know what temps the outside section goes down to in the winter? I'm assuming you are in Holland which I think has slightly worse winters than the southern UK?
@@MrHobolarry I keep Gouldians (amongst many others) in a bird room in Merseyside. I have a couple of heaters that I only turn on when the temperature is going to drop to 5c or lower. The heaters keep the room around 8-10c. A lot will depend on what temperature the Gouldians you purchase are used to. They don’t do well with sudden temperature fluctuations but if acclimatised properly, they can actually survive freezing temperatures. Not for long periods tho and as already stated never in a draught
