I see smiling faces in audience, people resonating with art whilst they harbour a sense of liberty in their hearts. This is happening in Red Square, the very same place which was often the scene of executions, demonstrations, riots, military parades and political speeches. It is a shame that common Russians have been so many times abused by their leaders throughout their history. For centuries, they went from one form of dictatorship and despotism to the next one.
I heard this first in Cornwall at the Count House when Ralph was a famous unknown, sometimes in the mid/late 60s; now in the 2024 he is still my favourite English singer, and his so song has accompanied me in my joys and my sorrows.
