Speech after speech and too little change if any at all. You are part of it Geoff. You saw the problems emerge in 2016 and 2017. You facilitated it. No sympathy from me.
It’s so sad and disturbing that since this movie came out the practice of „Conversion” abuse at camps has grown significantly as has disownment of LGBT teens where some become unhoused.
Take the nostalgia goggles off zoomers, Geoff FOSTERED the toxic behavior that breeded all these degenerates from day one. He, among the rest of RT victim shamed Haywood's underage victims calling them "clout farmers" when the allegations first came out. Nobody had the balls to fire that pig until it was WAY too late. This was made worse by how hard they flexed about being "woke" after #KickVic. You reap what you sow and RoosterTeeth got a nice helping of KARMA.
Aside from the obvious main characters, I love love love Hillary's character. She was -to me- as conflicted as Megan, if not more. She obviously wanted to meet the goal of the program like Megan did, but she has the same self awareness as Graham did. She knows she is betraying herself to have to pretend to be straight for "success", for that accomplishment and acknowledgement that she is a good law abiding rule following girl. I wonder if there's a religious aspect to her character too, just like Megan. Although there were symbolism, we never see Megan's religious conflictions(and Hillarys) but I wish they'd explore that. Does Hillary play along with pretending to be straight? Did she ever feel resentful about Graham and Megan getting caught fraternizing and then running away on graduation day? Or did she grow some guts and started exploring in college? Or became homphobic instead? Guess we'll never know.
I love this movie sooo much. For a while I had been questioning my sexuality and when I stumbled across this movie, it was like everything connected and made sense. I owe this movie so so much as it made me realize that I like girls and I like them a lot. This is such a comfort movie for me and I rewatch it every few weeks. Love the cast too!!
honestly it’s really wonderful how a gay woman turned people’s hate into a very ironic and amazing movie. i love this movie. it does make me sad, very sad, but just enough irony to keep me watching it
Thanks Hopkins my eyes didn't fall apart when she was changing into her junketsu, and I don't understand why she ran her finger on the sharp side of the sword
later in the dub I think Kamina says something among the lines of "Don't believe in you, and don't even believe in me! Believe in the you that believes in yourself!"
Yeah ngl this philosophy of believing in someone who believes in you even when you don’t have faith in oneself is actually really powerful get yourself a bro like kamina
i love this movie!! as a lesbian, my only problem with it was the depiction of homosexuality being really hypersexual and making it seem like lesbians are attracted to every woman they see and can’t help but fantasize about their bodies (megan having all those visions of boobs, crotches, and asses at the beginning). That being said, this came out in 1999, so you can’t really expect it to be completely un-problematic.
I do think it's trying to tackle issues with the discomfort people would have with women having and expressing sexual desire. It perhaps comes across a bit off, but a very femme woman having a greater amount of sexual desires and learning to accept/be unashamed of that is pretty cool and tackles preconceived notions of how they should act/feel
