Do the birds ever feed off the plants in your yard? Planning to plant some Casuarinas & such to attract cockatoos. Lately a few lorikeets feed off some native palms here.🌴🦜👍
Yes, they do. In our backyard, we have camellias, and their flowers are very popular with Rainbow Lorikeets and Noisy Miners. Sulphur-crested cockatoos will eat almost anything that grows, from vegetables, flowers, to young trees. Once they’re in the backyard, they’ll always find something to keep them busy. As for the Casuarinas, our next-door neighbor has some mature pine trees, and we’ve seen Black Cockatoos stopping by for the pine cones.
👍 #9 Hello my good friend, how nice that the Cockatoo will feed from your hand... and it's funny how they hold the food between their toes like they do. So if the female hadn't moved, would the male have attacked her? And I was wondering about the pots and pans in the garden... are they just there to catch or store water for the birds to drink or bathe in? And what eats your small plants etc under the mesh netting? Another fascinating watch my friend and thank you as always.👍◕‿◕
Thank you, my friend, for your thoughtful comment. The cockatoos are very friendly; it’s us who are holding back on hand-feeding. There's always one who misunderstands fingers food, so to speak. They're incredibly skilled with their claws and most are left-footed. As for the garden, we wash and fill pots and pans with water for birds. Unfortunately, snails and grubs are feasting on our veggie patch under the mesh. We'll soon open it up to let the birds help out. 👍🙂 Thank you again for your lovely comment, my friend! 🤗
@@hungrybirds_aus aaah I see ok. So the misunderstanding fingers for food??? ... sounds like a painful 'nibble' with that powerful beak... OUCH!!! rather you than me there, although I was bitten on my thumb knuckle yesterday as we (illegally) released 2 more rehabbed Squirrels. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
