I just put my wd 6tb in to a new case and I got these noises constantly now and I really don’t like it because I thought I might have shuck is to hard and broken it but now I know this is what it’s supposed to sound like I’m kinda relieved but also disappointed because the hard drive bay is right next to the open portion on my front panel
It's a performance HDD with very aggressive governor, there are ways to relax it but then you are better off with something like WD blue in the first place. Fun fact 1TB version with only one platter is completely silent others make that "grinding noise".
i still have hard drives and use them. My desktop is ssd only, 1tb crucial ssd, 1.02tb intel QLC ssd. Tablet also has same crucial ssd and never had any trouble with that. NAS uses a Desktop hard drive from seagate
same sounds here with 4Tb drive. I think this is what they're supposed to sound, and there's notthing to worry about, other than the fact that they're loud as hell!
i have the same experience with my brand new WDC Black 6TB whenever i access files in the drive (installing apps, playing games, copying or moving files) i didn't notice the noise for the first couple of months because i rarely access files in it because i have my OS and mostly used apps in another SSD, just started noticing it a month ago (its 4th month since i bought it). so i am wondering whether i have to worry about my files.
