My name is Christa, welcome to the Outside of Sunday Podcast. This podcast is a New Zealand Christian podcast that is part bible study, part conversation; the goal being to encourage you to get outside of Sunday. Yes, go to church on Sunday, but don’t save everything for that one day. Take your worship outside of Sunday, your bible reading outside of Sunday, your prayer life outside of Sunday. I’m not a pastor or a theologian, I definitely don’t have it all figured out. But I love the Lord. I am passionate about His word and I want to spend my life bringing Him as much glory as I possibly can. I hope that this podcast can help you to pursue our Lord, and grow in your faith, outside of Sunday.

I would suggest to start at the beginning. Genisis. To learn about and get to know the Creator who told us He would send the Son. Then learn about The Son.

I've never met Sarah but our mutual friend Maree has been talking to me and asking me to pray for her for years! Hearing Sarah's story is so encouraging and truly and answer to my prayers and so many others. Praise God for what He has done.

Thanks Julie and Christa for your insights. It is so easy to allow not just social media, but other things of the world to draw us away from time with God. We need to be intentional about having that quiet time and allowing ourselves to soak in His presence and be still. My experience is that God speaks into your spirit in the stillness with nothing to distract us from hearing Him.

TW: I mention torture. As someone who used to be all in on standing against the demonic, witchcraft and the influence of the world I know where you're coming from and I appreciate your even-handedness on this topic overall, it's much more considered than some I've heard. As I've deconstructed my faith and wider worldview I've had my understanding of witches and witchcraft completely flipped on its head. By understanding the patriarchal nature of most human societies, and the threat that women who practised folk medicine and witchcraft posed to those power structures, I've come to see that most of our perceptions towards and biases against witches and witchcraft are rooted more in patriarchal domination than a clear understanding of their practises and beliefs. One horrific example that comes to mind is the idea that the image of a witch as a bent over croan with green skin, crooked fingers, thin straggly hair and bulging eyes comes from the appearance of women accused of being witches after they had been beaten and tortured, had their fingers broken and hair pulled out to extract a confession, being lead off to be hanged. This is just one example of how witches (who were often just medicine women) were demonised or truths about them were twisted into lies. There are some really interesting pieces of media out there that flip the script on witches, Maleficent with Angelina Jolie for example, where they explore the backstory leading up to her cursing sleeping beauty. I'll admit that I'd happily let my kids watch media with witches and witchcraft in it these days, so long as its not too scary for them, as in my opinion there are much more harmful things in this world than people casting spells, using crystals and speaking to their spirit guides (I'm looking at you Late Stage Capitalism 😡)
Or you could be honest and just say no and explain the amazing history of life found in the fossil record, how many more species have gone extinct than exist today, how life has grown and adapted to meet changes in its environment and how we too are part of that magnificant unfolding story. Then you could mention how similar dinosaurs seem to creatures found in mythologies the world over, even in Jewish and Christian myths. Easy and factually correct 😊

I commend you for being so in touch with your inner voice and listening to it , it's a big step to listen to that voice inside you and acting on it . knowledge is power and the word of God is knowledge and power and with that comes wisdom. 💐
My heart was breaking for you well you were telling us about your birth experiences. This is why God made us woman strong in body & soul . And I really feel that the reason your babies were overdue is because our bodies try to protect us from harm ,motherly instinct heal your children where they were safe so they could get stronger to survive through the birthing process. ❤

Thanks for your willingness to talk about your marriage Liz. I know some Christians feel guilty and ashamed when there are problems in their marriage and don’t seek help. There is no shame in admitting you are struggling and it is courageous to address issues. God never said life / marriage would be easy but gives us tools (including His word) to do something about it. Communication is key and a preparedness to share openly and to listen to each other properly is so important. Bless you.

I pray your pain and struggle and journey to freedom will be the bright light to a path of freedom for others. I hope you get more opportunities to speak to young people. This addiction is so so rampant now, that I think society just turns a blind eye to its impacts on the individual and all those who love them. Its just been around for so long and to many its a hopeless chosen that becomes a tolerated reality norm. Such a great podcast.
