Those motors are both crap. Janky 4 cylinder motors that have two cylinders that shut off under a certain RPM

All Optimax outboards are 2-strokes. On Verado’s, they are 4-strokes. Back then with Mercury, we had Black Max’s, Offshore, all other different models. 2-strokes sound different than 4-strokes. My dad’s boat is a 1997 Baja 280 Sport Fisherman w/ twin Mercury 200hp Offshore and my stepfather’s is a 2000 Hurricane 226R Fundeck w/ Mercury 150hp XR6. Both of those outboards that my dad and stepdad has are all 2-strokes and carbureted.

It’s okay if you just couldn’t tell by the sound of the outboard boat engine.
