Some of the videos on this channel are folk rock. Others are Australian rock. (Some might even fit more than one category.) Those that don't fit either category are the "More".
Hence the name.
And despite this explanation, I suspect I'll still get occasional confused comments about particular videos, eg "That's not Australian!!!" Oh well. :D
I heard someone cover this song last night at an open mic in PA. Had to look it up to make sure I heard it right. 😬. I did. Great song. A little creepy
I had been a big fan of hers until a few years ago when I went to a house concert she put on. Since me and my bestie are not pretty and are not wealthy, we wore the best we had. Wendy and the hosts were polite to our faces but we saw them laughing at us when they thought we did not see them. Almost like back in HS. Haven't listened to her since. She crossed a line.
Underground 80s on Soma FM spin this song regularly, along with other tracks by this band. I'd never heard of it prior to that station playing it. Really love this song and others they've done. Only a minor hit where I live (Australia) back in mid 1980. It cracked the top 100 but not quite the top 50. Such a shame, should have been a big hit everywhere!
Wow, Stephen was only twenty-four years young when he did this live performance on Countdown in 1978. He was utterly gorgeous, and for my money he was THE BEST singer that Australia has ever produced, a close second being the late Michael Hutchence whom I've always suspected was heavily influenced by Stephen Cummings because I think that Hutchence sounded a lot like Cummings, and I know that Cummings music career preceded that of Hutchence's.
The Sport's version is easily THE BEST version of this classic song, IMHO. One of the reasons I love their version the best is because Stephen Cummings actually re-wrote some of the lyrics, the result of which is that the lyrics flow so much better, smoother than they do with Jackie De Shannon's original lyrics.
Bon Scott and fraternity were probably back stage having whiskey and lemonade for 10cents a glass 😅 fraternity did a few appearances on gtk around this time as well
I find the instrumental part almost makes more sense after a few listens. Some other arrangements I liked better had vocals at least 2 octaves higher...
@@nearlyoutofideas The whole thing is very interesting, I can see swathes of cheap knock off CD comps appearing in motorway services, the ones that used to be session guys doing crap covers, but now using AI!
Mind you, I can likely get away with this one because the lyrics are traditional. Otherwise, copyright would still apply. Unless they were all trad folk comps.
@nearlyoutofideas yes, but it's worth noting this Steeleye version mixed up the lyrics from two different traditional songs so the arrangement is unique to them. (And of course the melody but that's not relevant here)
