Goodbye Mr Chips is one of my favourite musicals. The story of love at its finest. And the performance of Peter O’Toole in the starring role along with Pet Clark was a wonderful combination of acting talent. This song and this classic film really does pull at the heart strings. Truly memorable and the songs of this lovely sentimental film will stand the test of time. RIP Peter, and thanks to Pet Clark for giving your fans such a legacy of songs to listen to over and over again. ❤
Over the years I’ve watched this at least 3 times. It’s wonderful that the dear Queen mother had someone who loved her and cared about her. Her family were quite hard and tough. Not like their mother at all. Those that joined the household and didn’t get on should have quietly left. Like in any job. I think prince charles has a heart of gold. Long May he get well and reign as king. ❤
What a lot of Flahs! What a lot of SUNshine! Love you Petula and Peter. This movie is marvelous. I never tire of it and always tear up in a multitude of places (no matter how many times I watch it). :)
My Mother was the image of Margaret Lockwood. She told me that on more than one occasion, a stranger stopped her in the street and asked, "please may I have your autograph Miss Lockwood?"
I loved Petula Clark in the 60's. My favorite singer. Now, as I relived the past favorites, I have discovered what an incredible talent, beyond the great hits of the 60's, this woman is. Singer supreme, actress, songwriter, poet. There's nothing she can't do. I even heard her sing country, and I swear I wouldn't have known it was Petula Clark. She sounded as if she were born to the genre. Just incredible. Still going at 91, and one of the most genuine, nicest, and appreciative performers ever. She's a GEM.
Glorious, lavish, spectacular, and tuneful. M/S Clark is, as always, terrific. Peter o' Toole is wonderful as Chips. One of my all-time favourite films. ❤❤❤❤❤.
It was a sweet film , and this is such a beautiful song. Sadly this film came out when people were getting tired of musicals. A lot of the musicals of this era didn’t do great at the box office. Star, Camelot, Paint Your Wagon, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. Funny Girl of course had the phenomenon of Barbra Streisand so that was the exception. But Goodbye Mr. Chips is definitely worth a look .
He made the Queen Mother happy and that is why she appreciated him. She would understand jealousy. He had good loyal friends. The fat man that told tales certainly made up for his displeasure by getting more than his share of the food. Why wasn’t he shaking the potted trees himself. At least the dear Queen Mum had a fun ,long life , when it could have been miserable for 50 years after loosing her husband.
About 1960 there was a rumour in the press that Elizabeth was contemplating remarrying. Her spokesman said she was extremely angry and announced something like; "A piece of false news so utterly absurd and complete nonsense. 'Nonsence' was not the word Her Majesty used. In fact Her Majesty used a stronger word."
CONSIDERING THE LEAVES ON THE FLOOR :-: BEFORE YOU BRUSH THE FLOOR YOU RUFFLE THE BRANCHES TO MAKE LOOSE LEAVES FALL then brush up IF YOU DONT THEY WILL FALL a good butler SHAKES THE PLANT TO CHECKS THE TASK WAS :-: THOROUGHLY CARRIED OUT.
I believe that normally a royal servant like Billy would be given a Grace & Favour apartment to retire in. Not only was he not given a home, he wasn't even given a thankyou
The Queen mother died with a £9 million debt. I’m not surprised the Queen wasn’t sympathetic to her mother’s good time Charlie butler! It was the worst kind of publicity for the royal family.
