It is certainly possible to build a competitive non- warbird unlimited. The LS based Falconer V-12 engines could be gotten to a reliable 1,000 hp for racing. A twin fuselage carbon type airframe could be stable and strong and low drag. Spend enough money and you could do it

I bet the CIA looked at the Airtruk for operations in Indo-China in the 70s. Human Insertions/extractions with extremely short, rough takeoffs. Covert CASEVAC, that sort of thing. The US Army might have considered its endurance and fuel economy for an Apocalypse Now like 'spotter'. Of course Americans would have gone with homegrown aircraft but they were certainly interested in alternatives.

Fella, at the end of WW2 (when you say Pellarini moved to Aus), the industries of the British Empire & Commonwealth had become inextricably linked with wartime production. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, South Africa and others. Australians were British citizens by right until 1949. Of course the Empire made aircraft and of course Australia used that technology for its own aircraft industry.
