apple dev here. the problem with the software is a lot of iOS/iPad devs know nothing about 3D and a lot of 3D devs that use Unity / Unreal dont know how to make 2D apps. It may never have good apps. The Apple Watch and TV app stores are barren because Apple limited what devs could do so devs gave up. It may just become an entertainment device like apple tv.
@@FredTrevinoColor no gps, no access to cameras. their 3d demos and docs are very basic nothing like Unity/Unreal. I dont know if you remember the fact you can overlay stuff on the camera feed on your iphone came from a dev who emailed steve jobs directly with a demo.
I'm on vision pro OS 2.0 now sitting in bora bora. I have two keyboards in front of me and neither pass through. One is a purple magic keyboard connected directly to my vision pro. The other is a standard keyboard. Neither pass through. I have little outlines around my fingers.
Hey, almost made a video about this. It is a little slow to respond and I'd say to go in your settings and play with the options. I found that sometimes it won't work for me and I need to just stare where my keyboard is for about 3-4 seconds and then it shows up. OR, sometimes just placing my hands on my keyboard for about the same time makes it show up.
@@VisionProforNerds Well, unfortunately I tried it with my 3rd party BT Keyboard and it doesn’t work. It works with my Apple Magic Keyboard but this one is not backlit so I struggle finding the keys, especially in dark environnements… Not cool from Apple.
I mean Apple working with Cannon to make a 3D video lens any DLSR can use is nice... But if it was that easy why didn't they make one before? Any way outside of that and the ability fro resolve to edit 3d video(which why couldn't it before vegas has been able to for years.) all that other stuff Quest 2/3 can do so apple is still catching up... So it's really disappointing and that's not mentioning the mac display is still one screen when quest heck even Rift have always been able to do multibed and make then all like that and all over the place even in VR... So I don't think they ruined any 3rd party app company yet.
Great video. A couple of new features another reviewer caught were the ability to force quit multiple apps at once and Apple added persistent apps/layouts between reboots. Users were asking for the ability to leave clocks or pictures on the walls on desk in pass through mode and it looks like they got it.
For me, the Vision Pro is well worth it even if only for using virtual display with my MacBook pro for work sprints while camping with family. No way I'm dragging a monitor along and sooo much better than the tiny MacBook display.
VP with the connect version (mirror) does not work great, at all. As a matter of fact, it was unusable on my macbook pro m3max until I went in and changed settings (It was plugged in). I went to Redditt to find solutions: turn battery to high performance, and drop resolution to 1080. If you do not do this, the mouse had MAJOR lag and was unusable and did dc a few times. I still love the VP, native apps are ok, but for me, its for multimedia, not productivity. Maybe microlearning.
Thanks for actually taking the time to try and use the Vision Pro for productivity. Seems like every other review online is someone just trying to love it or hate it based on whether or not they're an Apple/VR fan. I'm not buying a $3500 device, I just want to know what it's like to do work in VR!
Yes, seems like every review I see is someone who bought it and after four days makes a “in-depth” review. Honestly, since this review, I’ve upgraded to the visionOS Beta 1.2 and it’s gotten a lot better with the eye tracking and selecting small items.
What about the quest 2/3 or the maybe upcoming Quest 3S? Like they have all of the pro and non of the cons mentioned in this video... The main difference is they do way more stuff even on Mac/iphone/ipad but don't have sony micro OLED displays or the stainless steel construction ofr the polish... then again I never had the can't navigate briowser thing etheir by poking or pinching... Oh and the quest 2 costs $200 and is mainly VR not AR/MR and the quest 3 is $500 and is basically a better less fancy/highend AVP.
I use a Magic Keyboard and Trackpad (unified with a 3D printed “tray” from an Etsy seller). So I switch between the trackpad/keyboard for fine detail control, and use eye tracking and pinch for broader things like moving windows, etc.
Thanks for the review. New subscriber. I use my Vision Pro for work and watching video, etc. I think your first two cons may be related to your lenses or eye tracking. I start most work sessions by opening a random document and testing the tracking. If it’s off at all I reset the lenses. That usually does it but if not I redo the eye tracking. After that I have no issues selecting individual words anywhere in a document. Still minor issues with certain small boxes on websites, but not a lot. Sounds like a lot of work, but it’s about a minute and I’m sure I’m always putting it on a little different.
I’m using the Quest 3 & Immersed to work in a multi-desktop environment with my MacBook Pro. It works surprisingly well, at ~15% of the price of the Apple Vision Pro. And I can take it with me when traveling. That being said, if Apple or Immersed get multiple virtual macOS desktops working on the Apple Vision Pro, I’ll probably buy one.
Great video. I think working in that form factor, in 3D space is worth it. The ability to move, shape and organize all of the apps available from the Mac and iPad’s mind blowing. It’s something people have wanted from the iPad for years. I don’t get your difficulty navigating the windows. The variety of inputs are outstanding. With the AVP you can use a keyboard, trackpad, touch, voice and the rumor of pencil support, I would be flying through task once I figured out a system. I think about the new ways coming to experience retailers redesigning the shopping experience or the tours from our National Parks or Hollywood making horror movies that places you in the movie and I’m jealous. Once Apple can get the price down to affordable, I’m all in!
Your thorough analysis of the Apple Vision Pro’s productivity capabilities and eye-tracking functionality truly clarifies what users can expect. This deep dive into Vision Pro’s features makes me reflect on my recent exploration of the Gucci Spatial app. The experience was absolutely phenomenal and provided a starkly different immersion compared to Apple’s Immersive Video on Apple TV+.
On the downloading a file thing, I found that though it seems like nothing is happening, there is a thin progress bar somewhere on the browser page and when that finishes your file is ready in downloads. I then move it to a folder in my files folder if i plan to keep it. On a broader point, I don’t even attempt to use VP for things my MACs does well with a keyboard or mouse. VP is guaranteed to lose in that measure. You have to find a use case for which VP boosts your productivity. I recently did my taxes on my VP. I had all my forms and info in my files folder as PDFs and then each open in its own window on VP. With TT on my MBP, i opened it on VP as a huge window whose size and distance was such that i could read the text better than on the MBP with 16-inch. I used the MBPs keyboard and mouse to navigate. All input of info was read from a window on AVP and typed into TT on my MBP, but into a huge window. And the those PDF files on AVP were sized and positioned to make reading easy. On the whole, this was better than doing it all from the laptop as I could see all windows with nothing hidden off screen. Another application is the help session I am doing soon. I will host over Zoom. I share my iPad screen with the class and work out an engineering exam during session. Where the AVP comes in is that i have the solution to the exam open as a PDF in a window on AVP. This way, as I work the exam i have all the numbers right in front of me in a large window so I don’t have to spend time doing messy calculations over, which is error prone and slow. Since i already did the solutions on my own calculator ahead of time I am confident about those numbers. This makes the session so much better. This proves to be better than having the solution printed on paper or open in another window on my PC. And, I can size and position the window as I need to see those pesky details best!! It may be hard to appreciate that without doing it yourself. Now, these are what I’m finding in my daily work. Both are things I do at home, though. I don’t take my AVP to work with me and have no plans to do so. I can do almost all of my work from home. I hope I didn’t leave too many typos in this. i peaked it all out with one finger on my phone. I don’t plan to replaces things my computers do well with AVP, but i seek to enhance what I do already with AVP, where it makes sense. Virtual meetings with personas is very near. From my time in InSpaze and Facetime, this will definitely enhance group meetings. Price is still a barrier, as I don’t see buying grad students and collaborators an AVP so we can meeting in a VR /AR space, but that is coming.
Thanks for the comment! Yea, it's always interesting finding out how other people use their Vision Pros. I could easily have made this video an hour with all the variables involved. Also, yea a combo of Mac Virtual Display and Vision Pro Window is always great!
Thanks for the update!! 🎉 We love our AVP’s I purchased 5 AVP’s Fully loaded ( 1 terabyte ) I also purchased 3 extra batteries per AVP … I love the experience I remember life before video games, yes I’m 50 plus yrs old Trust me , ppl my age are blown away with this type of technology!!!! Apple keep it coming!!
No doubt they ALREADY have the technology to make bodies, but they’re probably afraid that the moment that they do, some cyber-upstart will utter those two earthshaking little words, Spatial Orgy“ and thus the madness begins 😬 At that point whatever happens in AVP STAYS in AVP! Wonder who the very first Spatial Pimp will be? 🤔 I’ll be severely disappointed if it’s not P-Diddy 😩😝
Thanks for the suggestion for the hang out spaces! I was just thinking about how I don’t know anyone with the Vision Pro and didn’t want to give my contact info to strangers.
@@VisionProforNerds there is loads more. Feet won’t connect to the floor right. Let me not even talk about the sliding, weird walking and body postures.
Families buying it at $3500 ++ a unit? Very rich families! The killer ‘app’ (roach) be would a device in the $1000-$1500 range, then the average person could afford it, and families buy it.
This is a first version full of specs , expensive ones to define the uses cases, we will see cheaper models, non pro later to be more mass market product for sure For now it is more a dev kit
When you are on a FaceTime call with someone, you should see the spatial persona button which is like a human figure on the right side just above the other controls.
You’ve broken through the mundane and anticipated to the new XR experience. Kudos. We’ll just have to suffer the masses who don’t have the mind to be open to this.
What .. 1993 demolition man ? Where in the future they don’t have sex, because of viruses .. but use vr instead. The writing is on the wall. The next plandemic will be the same .. Locked up.. cant leave the house. Ohh how wonderful we have Spacial personas.
It was the same with iPhone. A couple of years and VisionOS Platform will be as popular as iOS. Remember the initial keynote? Tim Cook Said about a Platform. Not a device. People Are just too shortsighted to see anything than their current life.
