Founded by Robert Bly in 1984, the Minnesota Men's Conference celebrates the telling of old stories, the gifts of poetry, myth, and music, and opening our hearts to grief. We all have a deep yearning for richer lives of purpose, meaning, and community. This conference is a unique opportunity to enrich ourselves as individuals in a group of other men.
Our channel is deep and rich with nearly forty years of recordings of world-class teachers from around the globe-storytelling, lectures, discussions, poem readings, insights and more-for men and women of all ages. All men are also invited to our conferences and events. Go to www.minnesotamensconference.com for more information. We hope to see you there.
Grief is the expression of empathy. Empathy has its foundation in love. Narcissism is the refusal to express grief, the rejection of empathy, and deeper, love for self.

I like him a lot he makes me laugh but also helps me see my humanity and why I am the way I am and wish that society was all different and more caring about each other than just concerned about getting one over another
The Prophet Ahead Of His Time Robert Bly's book, The Sibling Society, which asserts, and it is by now self-evidently true, that late modern society has become a society of adult children; a book published nearly three decades ago, and thoroughly, studiously ignored, is truly of monumental importance. But, as with the work of others who were or are ahead of their time, particularly if they have painful truths to convey, such as the world's leading cultural historian, Morris Berman, or myself, as a philosopher and social-political analyst, like Robert Bly's historically pivotal and profoundly important work, The Sibling Society: such minds and their words tend to fall of deaf ears, and are actively shunned, blotted out of the public mind, simply because they are too painful for the people to hear. However, we have run out of time for a cowardly avoidance of reality; and so, thank God, or Tao, Buddha Mind, or the fates, an awakening has begun. A large and rapidly growing minority of people, world-wide, are beginning to feel that the truly grave problems we now collectively face, are simply too dangerous to ignore. These are the ones going sane, after late modern corporate-run society has driven the great majority, functionally insane. They are the hope of the future: the ones who feel a duty to their children, their grandchildren, their families, communities, nations and world, that is felt strongly enough and deeply enough to face their fear, and deal with the honest truth of the reality we are facing, with all its ominousness, terror, and hope. The new Renaissance has begun. And it is, most certainly, none too soon. J. Todd Ring, Philosopher at large, Chiapas, Mexico, June 3, 2024
I remember when I first entertained these notions, my son was 7… one afternoon I said son I think we should swap roles for a time, you can be the father and I will be the son…he thought about for a few moments and agreed…I had no idea where this was going to go… then he said to me “son I want you to take me to the shop and buy me an ice cream”. I said yes dad and did so immediately. Something happened in this exchanging of roles which introduced both of us into the realm of new possibilities…the lord of the 4 quarters did say “ask and you shall receive” and of course this true. The answer already exists but to know it the question must be formulated and asked.
