What's going on, people. Myke C-Town here. 1/5 of the Dead End Hip Hop crew. Welcome to my personal channel where I talk about vinyl, review metal albums, do solo hip hop reviews for DEHH and answer all of the burning questions that you've been dying to ask me.
So stick around. Watch a video or two and, if you like them, subscribe! Or don't. Whatever. I don't even give a care...
You see kids, this is why atrazine in the water is such a big problem. It might be too late to save this young man but there are millions more that still have a fighting chance. #AtrazineAwareness 🐸
I think Myke would love the self titled album by Økse that came out on backwoodz recently. Great experimental jazz with features from armand hammer, cavalier and maassai
You would probably dig the self titled ØKSE album. It is live band Hip-Hop by an Avant/Free Jazz band with verses from Billy Woods, Elucid, Maassai and Cavalier. Definitely an interesting release this year. Half and half on instrumental songs and Rap
It’s not like we miss Ka so much because he doesn’t drop, quite the opposite, because his albums are so in depth and carry so much that during the wait time for the new album, you can still be digesting new things from his previous works. Then he drops an album like this and now you feel overwhelmed, not in a negative way but it just feels like he’s expanding lore to his past works, and his life. Truly feels like a person who wants to teach rather than lecture those, who are willing to listen.. Another amazing masterpiece while I’m still learning things from Hermit and the Recluse 😂
andrew & Jesse the Tree make great music, both together as sleepingdogs and on their own solo projects. For anybody discovering them via Alaska’s album here, go check em out. 🔥
Ooh excited to hear thoughts on aj suede, i think his latest project is my fav of his to date. If you ever get the chance see him live, his energy and stage presence are night and day compared to the studio recordings.
The Thief Next To Jesus is a masterpiece, and it's far from Ka's first. But he's becoming more ethereal with each release. One foot in the deepest gutter on earth and the other in the upper atmosphere, while he balances perfectly in this enlightened state. This is literal soul music.
It's refreshing to do! Folks really don't get it but I seriously hated reviewing albums that I didn't like towards the end of my time with DEHH. It's just too much energy spent in the wrong direction for me.
I'm really interested in your thoughts on the new Em album, but with what you said in the intro I totally understand if you don't end up making that video. Personally, I feel like the critical response to it has been strange. I don't think it's a perfect album, but I feel like a lot of critics, even ones I respect, are taking a lot of what's on it at face value without properly dissecting or trying to understand it as a whole. You've always been great at not doing that and pulling things from albums that others seem to miss. Either way, I appreciate all that you do Myke. Keep up the great work man!!
I actually agree with you that the critical response has been odd. I blame that mostly on the fact that Em is the current punching bag for critics who like to be negative. I've legit heard folks shit on Em lyrics but then prop up artists whose pen is infinitely worse and just mark it off as "it's for the LOLs". It's stupid to me. That's not to say that Em doesn't have some bullshit on this record. He does. But I think acting like he's a singular voice when it comes to making cringy bars is shit journalism.
Myke listen to the new Joey Valence and Breas album "No Hands". It's like a modern-day version of Beastie Boys, but in a way that isn't corny. You'd get down to the song "the baddest"
I really enjoyed the new Alaska album. My first introduction to him was on Cannibal Ox, but I’ve been slowly diving into his work. I highly recommend this album. I also recommend his Podcast “Call Out Culture,” for those who haven’t checked it out.
@@mykectown The Yacht Rock & Nu Metal Tournaments were great. Their episode on White Rapper Show was hilarious! Of course the Company Flow episode is how I found the podcast.
I get chills every time I hear “if they really wanted to bless me should’ve passed me the collection plate”. Sometimes KA will give you these really complex bars with crazy wordplay, and other times he’ll give you a simple line like this that just cuts straight to your soul.
God, I had that line in the video too, but took it out to keep the video from being too long. But I took it out to keep the video from being too long. But that line is seriously incredible.
I gotta check these out! You always steer in a solid direction man, I love your videos. I was also curious about what your thoughts on the last two Aesop Rock projects were like? I was wondering why you didn't cover them for a while until I saw the split from DEHH and was like "oh that tracks"😂
If you're coming to Puerto Rico. I got you on vegan restaurant recommendations check out 100% HP, Afro Vegana, Frescura Vegan Kitchen and Vía Láctea and Mucho Gusto for vegan ice cream.
Love that Ardulph Ardebahr Wald record ist soo good. I have it, too. Was really surprised Ixiol put it out. Nogbolds Palace which was also part of the drop is also super good, plus if I'm not mistaken they share personnel.
That Fatboi Sharif EP is so good. There's one song on there that straight up sounds like Prurient! Booked Sharif a couple of weeks ago with some power electronics and hardcore bands and he fit like a glove on the bill. Dude absolutely killed it.
According to Metallum, Klavitt Klavitt... is Swartadauthuz. I'm trying to look online to see if he's using a pseudonym for this project. He does that shit sometimes. I dunno why, but he does it. In Tyranni, he calls himself "Svartpest", he's got a few others. Don't sleep on that Balwezo Westijiz LP that dropped on Profound Lore.
