Where would I get my blood returning Green and I am from France I dream of going to Erin Wexford was our origines and my grandparents spoke married arrived at Boston... where my grandparents left from May be it's not going to please me but I doubt ..I am more concerned by understanding the situation and learn a little Gaelic promised to someone who I can't take my words back from.... and I feel like it would be an achievement
I dont buy the idea that he refused to join the council because hed recognised the court. That was still early days and if he could simply see it as an error of judgement. Joining the Army council would obviously mean that Tyrone would loose its autonomy and hed have to abide by their decisions and enforce the councils decisions on his own people.
Really appreciated this. My grandmother and her older siblings left Kerry (Beaufort Parish between Killorglin and Killarney) for Boston in 1924 and 1925 after the Civil War and I have been trying to understand trends in Irish immigration in those years from IRA-anti-Treaty Kerry. They also had people/sponsors in Worcester and Springfield where there were so many Kerrymen and women.
Im a fan from Australia.. as an outsider.. I have to say loyalists have the attraction of COOL GUYS.. There are honestly NO powerful men on the republican side... They seem to be soyboys lol.. Johnny Adair, gusty Spence, billy wright, the list goes on... They are definitely ALPHA men
I had a great granduncle, Christopher Hussey, who went to America in 1851, he left Co. Westmeath, after his father had taken land from which a previous tenant had been evicted. The previous tenents family hired men (Ribbonmen) to kill the Hussey's. Christopher had been a witness to the attack in which a relative was shot. Christopher was sent to America to avoid testifying, as the Hussey's feared a further attack.. He went to America via Liverpool. He spent two years in New York and New Haven CT, before in 1853 relocating to Virginia. He was a labourer (probably on the railways), and got US citizenship in 1855 in Ohio Co. By 1860 he was living at Covington Virginia, and in 1861 he joined the Virginia Hibernians as a Private. The company was company B of the 27th Virginia (Stonewall brigade). He fought for 2 years and died at Winchester Virginia in june of 1863 of heart disease. His brother Patrick was my great grandfather. I grew up hearing some of this story, but I put more of it together through research in the last few years.
I am trying to find my family and where they were before 1890s, I know the plantation in America but what country my ancestors came from. I know the person who brought them from Ireland but can’t track my great grandparents, parents. 😢
The Gallowglass are a Scottish mercenary brigade not Irish at all they were a mix of Scottish Vikings that sold their services as a Gun for Hire, and some did fight for Irish chieftains, also it was not English it was Normans that invaded today's Ireland.
The gallowglass clans created new bands from irish recruits. For the 3 and a half centuries they functioned in Ireland, they were majority of irish descent. They were a business.
This is a perfect example of academic waste of public funds. This talk is interesting, despite the speaker's lisp and mick brogue, but should academic institutions be funding lectures to be doing this kind of narrowly focused work. Let pernsioners or weekend historians with nothing better to do, do this kind of work. Also, no offense to her accent but it reminds me of the awful elderly mick nuns I used to encounter on the southside of Chicago back in the 50's and 60's.
Why are you singing English ? speak in the Gaelic so no fucker will understand yer ! BTW, respect to Bobby Sands for his commitment to his cause albeit misguided. The English are no longer your enemies... look further south towards Brussels for that... if yer have the sense. Vote Hermann Kelly,, advice from an English friend who's grand children are half Irish.
Were the Redshanks connected to the Gallow Glass? Irish and Scottish have always mixed and merged. I live in Edinburgh and am a proud Hibernian FC fan.
Fascinating. I'm Clan Ranald on my mother's side and Clan Donald on my father's side. I'm 6 foot 6 inches so maybe. Anyway very informative. The only times I'd heard this term was from a tour guide and Neil Oliver were it involved the Earl of Mar being contemptuous of the gallow glass warriors in the lead up to the battle of Inverlochy. Very much enjoyed this.
My gramps and great uncles fought with the east and mid-Clare brigade flying columns. They spent time in Ennis jail, Limerick Jail and Mount Joy Prison where they went on hunger strike. Their names are in the history books from the Clare library and you can see the actions taken and who was involved. It’s fascinating. My family fought and participated, as lore would have it, back to the 1600’s where history says Oliver Plunkett was a relation, 1798, 1803, in 1916, the Tan War and on the anti-treaty side during the war of independence and right straight up to the peace process. To say my family name was known and respected up until today, in certain circles at the highest levels is truth. I thank god the violence is over and my views have matured. Nothing is black n white. Many young people died unnecessarily, it was sad and destructive on all levels to all participants.
My ancestors came to Jamestown in 1658 from county Longford Ireland . They were Brian o’farrell age 33 and his son Hubbard Hubert Ferrell . Brian and his wife died in 1663 and his son died in 1676 during Bacons Rebellion. What would have ben the circumstances that led them to Jamestown?
I love hearing anything about the 3rd tipperary brigade and my grandfather Paddy O'Dwyer [ hollyford] who gave the commemoration and fought at solohead
This is incredibly informative fascinating. Some of Robert Welch's work is at the Natural History Museum in London (three photo albums including Giant's Causeway). I have only just catalogued them. You can imagine how very exciting to discover this work on Welch here. Thank you ! 🎉
Thank you for this wonderful video, I am doing an interior architecture project on a tower house in Kilkenny, Burnchurch and this has helped me understand the context so much more.
It's worth mentioning that Huntingdon was the county town of Huntingdonshire until 1974 when it became a local government district of Cambridgeshire in 1974 as this is a historical lecture.
Be careful using the umbrella term "Christian Zionists" when you really mean "Protestant evangelical Zionists". The largest group of Christians in the world are of course the Roman Catholics.
For the first 10 minutes of this video I had a hard time understanding whatEamon McMahon was saying. Between the accent and the mumbling speaking style I could barely decipher anything. Thankfully, David Cronin did most of the talking and he enunciated much better.
