Bush Heritage is an independent not-for-profit that buys and manages land, and partners with Aboriginal people, so we can protect our irreplaceable landscapes and our magnificent native species forever.

When you donate to us, your money is being spent in Australia, for all Australians.

There are close to 2,000 animals and plants on Australia’s threatened species list. Bush Heritage steps in where we’re needed most, protecting all species on our reserves.

We respect, listen and learn from working side-by-side with Traditional Owners, and by working in partnerships with pastoralists and other organisations to have the most impact.

Together, we’re returning the bush to good health.
Make your life's legacy a gift to the bush

Great presentation and loved the Chowchilla at the start. Why was your NDVI data so much coarser than your Fractional data? Weren't they using the same source data?

Apparently the Black Kite also grabs burning branches to set fires to smoke out prey.

Does not look like hunting. Instead she seems desperate for her chicks / eggs being burnt on the tree where is going repeatedly.

This is precisely the song I was seeking yesterday--so a big thank you to You-Tube for notifying me! We camped at Hamelin Pool several times on trips to Australia, and this bird was prominent along the trail in the early morning. Very nice memory. The song changes a bit depending on location, but is always "chiming."

King brown snake venom is not as toxic as Australia's most venomous snakes, The Inland Taipan No 1 most venomous snake in the world, Coastal Taipan No 2, and Brown snake No 3. It is dangerous because it pumps bite victims with large doses of venom.

Missed the original because we were out of mobile range. But we've just watched the recording and it was great to see your progress Saskia. Hopefully we'll catch up at Boolcoomata next Easter when we come to pull out more fences 😊 Annie and Ian Mayo

Hi Ian and Annie, So lovely to hear from you, I'm glad you enjoyed the Webinar. You'll be pleased to hear that the PWs out here are all doing really well. There are quite a few chicks about and lots of new unbanded birds. I haven't been able to find the little male that we tracked earlier this year but hope that he is currently out there somewhere looking after a clutch of chicks. Hopefully my autumn surveys line up with when you are both back out here. It will be great to see you again. Enjoy your travels! Saskia

Thank you for an excellent broadcast from what looks like a fascinating environment. Saskia mentioned a piece of software which is used to analyse the song meter data, but I couldn’t quite catch the name of it. Could you please let know what it is and where I can access it. Thanks

The program we use is called ARBIMON, it is a web-based platform that is currently free to use. You will just need to create a login and a copy of a call of the animal you are trying to identify to get started.

Seeing folks come together to protect ecology and wildlife is a beautiful thing. It's no surprise that the night parrot's strongest stronghold is on indigenous land. We should be turning to indigenous people the world-over to conserve our ecology and natural resources - and while we're at it, acknowledge that it's always been their land

I heard this beautiful song today approx 5 kms north of the Overlander Roadhouse near the intersection of the Shark Bay Road and the North West Coastal Highway. It didn’t take long to find the source as the bird was perched on a branch approx. 40m from me. I tried to photograph it but it dropped down into a thicket. It really is a wonderful song.

Edgy really is a national treasure, a microcosm of biodiversity, but an enigmatic diversity that would not be there without the springs. Amazing to think of all these aquatic species surviving for hundreds of thousands to millions of years in these tiny little springs in the middle of Queensland!

My wife and I saw a Plains Wonderer at the edge of the Great Sandy Desert , NT in August 2021.. this was around 15km west of Kata Tjutta ( The Olgas) Spinifex and mulga sand dune country. We were only 3 - 4 metres from bird. We were already aware of the species and are 100% certain of what we saw. He stood still for a moment and then ran behind some grass and we could not find him again. My concern is that there's feral cats across this area.....

Heartening. An acknowledgment to the Traditional Owners would be appropriate. They are the continuing stewards of these unceded lands and have been so for 60,000 years before you guys came along to save it.
