Based on the west coast, "3 Days Away" is where your hosts Sassy and Todd take you along on our precarious camping adventures, RV travels in our toyhauler and gear review, off-road excitement and exploring with our Polaris UTV, home improvement, DIY and anything else not covered by our cooking channel GreenhornBBQbeer. And doing it all in just a few days or less is the goal!
I’m thinking to doing this, I have the exact same pool pump and I was just worried about how to get the heater plumbed in, so really glad to see this, feeling much more confident to try this myself. How’s it held up over the years? Is that hose clamp set up still working for you?
This works. I built the same. My design uses quick hose connects so I can flush out the heater when the heater starts clogging after a month of use aka 200 hours. The setup lasts 2 seasons as the heater melts internal heat shielding, water calcium clogs the heater, and the pump switch dies. I spend $250 to refit equipment every 2 years. My same size pool heats up the pool by about 1 degree per hour with a $25 propane tank per day. The pump is annoying so I build a wooden box with sound insulation. Problem is the seaflo water pump over heats after 4 constant hours enven with water or fan cooling. I setup a parallel pump with a manual valve to switch to the backup pump. We float and swim late into the night...
The text on screen throughout is killing me 🤣 love the commentary. My $200 old marketplace Leer won't stop leaking from the windows. I've been trying to avoid taking the windows out and just sealing around them and flex sealing over that but man looks like I need to do this too
Update would be very helpful, but most U T video makers doesn't come back to replay to comments and questions! They get busy and life goes on. This works for pools with 10k gallons or less. Larger pools like my AG 18" x 33' X 52" require a HD heaters, 150BTU, pool Place estimation?! They calculated the surface SQ feet, The LP gas co. tech came over and he told me that any heater above 150K BTU require a 2 100gl tanks, otherwise the tank get too cold trying to do the conversion causing pressure to lowered.
I totally understand all of the above. I was just hoping for some real-world information on how long his lasted. I know these are typically not really designed for this application so I was hoping to find out more info@@PoisonShot20
heat pump pool heaters beat propane hands down, unless you want to spend a fortune in gas to heat your pool quickly. With a heat pump to can set and forget!
If you hard plumbed your filter pump, you could have just added a tee with a pvc hose pipe connection. Which eliminate the need for a pump for the heater.
@@iamamp3pimp I have the same question, but the gas Co. tech told me that is how is hook up, using the pool circ. pump and adding a diverter valve, so when not using the heater, valve is turn off. Maybe that is the reason the BTU required is so high.
Thanks for sharing. Is it safe to use the heater continue pushy at a (17 min run and 1 min rest). For how long? 2,3 hours?? Also, can this be outdoors? Most of these are saying “indoors use only”
How did you manage to get your gas Raypak heater in CA? I'm also in CA and still trying to buy one, maybe drive to Oxnard? 40 miles from the Valley where I'm at.

Have you had any issues with the pool chemicals eating away at the internal piping of the tankless gas water heater? There was a forum I was reading online and I can’t tell if the information I was reading was accurate or not. So I thought I would consult someone who has already installed the tankless water heater as a pool heater.
The fitting to reduce to the hose would be greatly appreciated i found ones that will thread on at home depot and grabbed an intex gasket pack on amazon but the size that goes on the cut off end to and from the pool would be greater appreciated if this doesn't work for me
I shopped a camper shell for awhile. I noted that during the pandemic demand and prices surged, quality tanked. I don't see this changing anytime soon, sad.
You can go get a water column measuring tool. My 3/8th BBQ line is 40ft long and it still reads 10" (max is 10.5 on 156a model for natural gas). You SHOULD be good with 1/2inch. Highly recommend just testing it though. The tool is all of $30-40
I just got one and will run it out of the same outlet but I hear mix reviews about making sure to shut the heater of sooner then the pump I have mine on a timer so both will shut of at the same time
Well, my experience goes right along with all the comments here. Truck is kept inside but outside in the rain it leaks like hell from day one. Tried talking to the boneheads at the dealer and finally just walked away.
Not sure how many BTU it was. I disliked the solar cover because I have a walk-in swim step and the skimmer gets in the way. Since this is southern California, I keep it open and ready rear round.
So I recieved the Leer 100XR topper about 3 weeks ago. 1st rain storm 2 weeks ago I saw water dripping in both front right and left corners from the carpet. I was really disappointing after paying out $3,500. I took it down to the dealer that I bought it from and they scheduled me for a leak test. On the day of the leak test I stood by and watched the young men. Their conclusion was that water is getting in at both rear right and left sides of the topper door latch areas and creeping down along the carpeted edges to the front corners. And in the kids words, “I will have to cut out all this carpet back here on the corners and it’ll probably look like shit.” I did not accept that answer or the 2 young men’s finding. I directed them to put there hose on the front drivers side top corner area and side window of the topper to see if the intensity of the water drip would increase. It did increase so they lifted up the topper and packed a small amount of putty in the corners and set it back down and called it fixed. I was not at all impressed with their findings and or repair. I agreed to leave it at that. Wasn’t worth my time to push for more leak testing and accept the comment, “Well that should do it and if not just bring it back,” as I could see the lack of experience. So on the 2nd rain storm the topper continues to leak as indicated earlier. I do not believe these kids working at the Leer dealership are capable or experienced enough find leaks and or make repairs (Being brand new it should not leak at all !!) With today’s rain I went out with a flash light and paper towels and found that the water is leaking in through the lower perimeter and sides of the front window. My paper towel would also become damp when tamping it around the side windows. I am very disappointed with my purchase and am experiencing BIG time buyers remorse. I would expect to have talented and experienced personnel to make the repairs or have some kind of monetary compensation so I can make the repairs myself or seek out someone who can. Your RU-vid video on the quality of Leer toppers says it all. All the negative comments with the quality of Leer toppers also speaks volume. If I knew then what I know now about the quality of Leer toppers……All I can do now is to share my experience. Like you said, meth heads putting these things together. LEER toppers are total garbage.
@@3DaysAway I just want to thank you for posting this video. I’m going to go ahead and re-seal the side windows on my new topper. It is going to help now that I know after watching. Worth 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 🌟 and 👍👍 two thumbs up.
Northwestern Indiana here was thinking about doing this set up don’t have the funds for a gas heater until next year the pool and install wiped me out 😅but deff going to need some heat how many tanks do you use for your pool how long does it take to heat up

Is there a need to replace the thermostat housing that connects to the block? Someone told me that the factory ones have a poor flowrate.. Truck is throwing this code, and has 200k miles on it. Any suggestion there??
