Thanks for the shoutout! First disc was glue bed for background and eyes. On speed racer, I just used brown lotion a couple minutes longer for the shaded skin tone 🫡🫡🫡
Great technique. As a sticker guy with 30+ yrs experience I recommend trying an scpm3/paper type transfer tape. Its not as tacky as clear transfer tapes. To apply, just lie it 'umop episdn' and center the disc as you place it down onto the decal and premask, pressing in the center to tack it into place. Then gently flip them both and squeegee out from the center (popping as needed). This (and other paper masks) are much easier to remove after the decal is stuck down. You can also spritz the premask with water (after the 😂squeegeing) to make removal easier without peeling the decal up if you run into problems. This is not possible with the very tacky clear tapes.
I’m new to disc dyeing and I’m wondering if it’s possible to reuse shaving cream for multiple discs? I’m assuming not because I think the shaving cream would dissipate during the first disc’s dyeing and then not be reusable. Is this assumption correct or on the right track?
So when I’m lining things up with vinyl from my cricut sometimes I stick some parchment paper underneath the sticky side. It won’t stick to it. Then you can line it up, peel the top back a bit and stick it, then peel the paper out slowly while smoothing it.
Glad to see the booth at PDX Open. I picked up a mini, and told Austin that you guys are what got me started. Thanks. I was the bearded guy with the MVP dyed discs..lol
I know the artist from Space Rhino and he kills it on his dyes. Definitely has studied the art of dyeing discs for some time. I have some of his work and I love it.
Thanks for getting to know the guy that is doing the awesome disc dying tutorials on youtube! I just ordered some dyes, floetrol and oil, so I am really hyped to try the cell dying technique. You are doing an awesome job explainig the procedures to the audience. Keep it up, please!!
Wow it never occurred to me that dyeing fisbees would be a thing, but that's really pretty! Love to see peeps crafting in whatever medium they are drawn to ❤
So in the beginning I didn't know any better so I just used 100% acetone, Then I read that lighter neons really benefit from some hot water. Having now tried 100% acetone and a water & acetone mix and I found they reacted very differently in the glue bed. Specifically 100% acetone likes to spread out more while the acetone & water mix seems to have some cohesion properties and the dye wants to collapse back on itself. This can be very useful if you are trying to do thin black lines for Fire & Ice, Resin Table Pours or what Gold_Roof calls a RIft Dye. You are right though that water activates the pop that some of these dyes really need, especially Neon Pink and Key Lime Thank You for all the info and help you put out there to help and inspire everyone
This was a great podcast. Bummed I missed it live, but all the topics were great to listen to. Definitely need to bring awareness to the dyers for the epic custom pieces. It was nice hearing Eagle echo that sentiment. Again, great episode 🤘
