One of the happiest memories i have is my mum flicking through the channels ( early 90's UK so all 4 of them ) it was late , i was about 8 ..it was " time for bed " and this tune starts playing and we just sit and watch the entire movie . Laughing our arses off throughout .
When They Showed The Film At The Brentwood, NY (On Long Island) Theater In The !980's, The Movie Company's Show Planners Fixed The Opening Credits Sequence REALLY NICE For That Particular Crowd, (Which Including Me And My Family Then,) By Including An Old Postcard Of "THE BIG DUCK", -(Then At The Time Seen In Flanders On Long Island,) -AND THE THEATER WENT TOTALLY NUTS!!!

The National Lampoon's "Life & Death of the National Lampoon" mentioned the late Doug Kenny [Animal House, Caddyshack] would have been likely involved with Vacation & Christmas Vacation had he not died in Hawaii after Caddyshack. So, as iconic as the early Vacation movies were... we can only wonder what his absence as a writer on the movies could have been.
Remember when families used to love each other and go on vacation together? those were the days. Now people are going to Disney by themselves and families aren't talking to each other because of political differences
This being the whole point. The song lyrics tell us basically that the road to our Holy Day is a long and difficult one, full of traps. Meanwhile the reference to the nursery rhyme "Jack be nimble, Jack be quick (Jack jump over the candlestick)" is a game from the Middle Ages, in which people tried to make athletic jumps over a lit candle without putting out the flame. The idea is that we somehow pass through this life without giving way to sin and vice; without losing oure spirituality / divinity A big part of the movie's plot is of course Clark (despite having a wife of his own both sympathetic and sexy) being tempted into adultery while travelling along his holiday road... Remember, under Jesus's demanding definition of adultery we only have to look... The joy in the song (noted and felt by millions of people) is specific, because obviously this is a cautionary tale; yet it is also a recognition of a deep truth. And that's the source of the joy...
Joseph Kittinger did this in a day and age, where this was an unknown. He didn’t have a team of hundreds, with the greatest technology our modern era can afford us. All he has was his sheer will and determination. He didn’t have a team of experts telling him he’d be okay. And ultimately, these jumps took his life. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him, and this video gives me chills too. I hope Mr. Kittinger ultimately found his peace, and knows how important he is, even 63 years later. Be kind to one another folks, but most importantly… stay true to oneself.
I don't believe all references to the Twin Towers show that people are "in on it". I know that the song "Holiday Road" has divine inspiration from the Holy Spirit. And I know the Holy Spirit also offers the gift of prophecy. Of course, He did not stop the outrage, as it does not work that way. We are supposed to choose to give up evil of our own volition. But one might note that the Towers appear with the name MATTY SIMMONS. The first thing that stands out is the twin letters "MM" and "TT". The movie "Back to the Future" (also a divine feelgood film that some consider to reference the coming events of 9/11) has numerous twin letters like Hill Valley, Marty McFly, Emmett Brown, Lorraine, Biff Tannen, etc. However, here we have the twin letters TT, and even MMI which is 2001 in Latin. If you then take away the letters for AM (morning) and NY (New York), you are left with ... SOS. Brooklyn-Born Simmons led National Lampoon from 1985, though he was with it before then. Ten years before, in '75, a National Lampoon magazine cover (if not faked) seems to show Twin Towers hit and burning in just about the exact right places. It looks utterly like the real photos from that day. Again I insist that there is no need for that to be sinister. Indeed, quite the opposite. The Holy Spirit offers signs through culture (as well as Scripture, nature and rapture). Being Born Again, I see those kinds of signs more clearly now...
I just saw this classic for the first time this past thanksgiving weekend and it cracked me up, though renting it through was a giant pain in the ass to rent it through amazon prime, as it took 4 hours just for the payment to go through are you kidding me, that was way past ridiculous good grief🤦🏼♂
I remember going on road trips for vacation with my grandparents and my parents back in the eighties and nineties. Another crazy thing is that hat and Boots gas station is still in Seattle but now it's at a park down by Boeing field. 1:16
