Hello! My name is Stalo, and I would love to teach you Greek! I am a native Greek speaker, and I have been living in the United States for many years now. I have a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, and years of experience teaching Greek and Latin at the university level.
I follow a step-by-step approach to teaching in a series of lessons. These lessons start from complete beginner level to advanced level. The students get a thorough exposure and explanation of Greek grammar and syntax through short conversations. Regular comparisons to English grammar and syntax help the students get a better understanding of new concepts. Each lesson video is followed by an exercise session video.
In addition to the series of lessons, I have many videos on grammar, expressions, idioms, and different structures in the Greek language.
Free PDF files for all my videos are provided through links in the description of each video.
@@GreekWithStalo Do you have a lesson on the subjunctive? I am trying to figure out when to use να + the future simple versus να + the present tense. For example: πρέπει να αγοράσω... versus Θελω να αγοραζω. The only information I can find is that if you are saying that it is imperative/necessary to do something, or if it is for only a specific amount of time I should use the future simple tense of the verb. If It's Can you please explain this further? I appreciate any help you can share!
Hi, Stalo! Today I was teaching English and there was among a few new words, a word immediately. I hope to remember the word am'esos. 🤣🤣🤣 Next week I will tell them how it is in Greek!!! 🤣🤣🤣👍. Thank you for the lesson. ❤️
Question: in the last slide showing the variations on the sentence 'The students go to (the) school daily', The letter epsilon in the polytonic and monotonic words for 'students' has the accent mark facing different directions. Was that part of the shift from poly to mono?
Επίσης "έχει" = it has been, there is/there are. Does this replace το ρημα υπαρχει/υπήρχε; Θα μου εξηγήσω΄Σ' ευχαριστώ 😍
Ευχαριστώ πολύ, Shannon!! Ναι, "έχει" μπορεί να αντικαταστήσει το "υπάρχει/υπάρχουν," αλλά παίρνει αιτιατική (accusative), όχι ονομαστική. Μπορείς να δεις το video μου "20 expressions with the verb έχω."
When I started to learn to read Aesop's fables in Greek in Poland we have Greek weather. 😂😂😂 Now is 32°C. Agriculture in Poland is suffering because of this high temperature. Very interesting lesson although it looks like Greek is very complicated, especially in hot weather. I hope it isn't my fault these high temperatures in Poland. 😱😱 Even me who always liked the sun and south European climate have to say, it's a bit too much. They say one week more will be so hot! I still don't hesitate to learn Greek language! I didn't have to move south. South came to me! 😂😂😂 Thanks for the lesson!!! 👍❤️
Thank you very much, Wiesław!! I'm sorry about the high temperatures! I know what you mean! The whole planet is suffering unfortunately with this global warming.
Γεια σας! Με λένε Βιντσέντζο. I am learning Greek as a beginner. I have some problems with Greek letters and accents. There are three Greek η, ι, υ which have the same sounds "i". I have problem with writing, for example, Lily, I wrote "Λίλη" and it should be "Λίλυ". I dont know which spelling to write "i". It is difficult when I write. And I also have the same problems with Greek letters "ο and ω". And it is hard to write where I put the accents over the Greek letters. Do they have rules about the Greek letters spelling and accents?
Γεια σου, Βιντσέντζο!! Welcome to my channel! Thank you very much for your comment. Spelling in Greek is a tough subject. Many people, including native greek speakers, have trouble knowing when to use the different kinds of "i" and "o" as well as the diphthongs ει, οι, αι, etc. There are some spelling rules, but they don't help with all spelling. It's mostly basic rules about endings. They will be helpful up to a point. I have a video on the spelling rules (The 21 most important spelling rules) if you want to check it out. I think that slowly, as you learn more and more Greek, you will be more comfortable with spelling. Accents are easier because they always go on the syllable that is stressed. I can prepare a video on that. Also, you may want to check out my Greek from Scratch playlist. It starts with very basic Greek, so it may be too easy for you, but still, you may find some usefulness. I take it you are Italian! I love Italy and the Italian language! Thank you!!
@@GreekWithStalo Γεια σας! Ευχαριστώ! I am very happy to receive your helpful message. I really want to tell you that I am deaf. I know I have a big big problem with the accents where I put over the Greek letters. I have to hear which stress so I have to write the word with the accent. How can I know I put the accents over the Greek words? I love Greek language. I am learning it because I have a passion for learning it. I have never been to Greece in my life but I will go there one day. I love your great videos. Keep it up! Dont give it up! I would like to learn the vocabulary about food, animals, body parts, things in a house, transports and everything. Why not? Hey, I studied Greek a couple of years ago and then I gave it up because of the accents and the spellings. So I am coming back and I am trying to challenge it and I hope I dont give it up! I cross my fingers. Thank you for that.
Γεια σου, Βιντσέντζο!! Thank you so much for your encouraging and kind words!! I really appreciate your support! My warmest congratulations to you for persisting with Greek and not giving up. I know it's a challenge, because Greek is not a very easy language. But hang in there. It will be worth it. I'm here for any questions you may have. About the accents, what kind of computer do you use? Apple? Or iPhone? It's easy to add a Greek keyboard on an iPhone or Apple computer. It should be similar for a Windows system. Probably in the Settings there should be a Languages & Keyboards section, and maybe a + sign for adding a language and keyboard. If you tell me what you are using, I may be able to help more. Thank you!!
@@GreekWithStalo I have already added a Greek keyboard layout into my laptop. It is Windows. I know how to type the Greek words with the accents. It is very easy. Here are ί, ώ, ά, έ Είμαι από Αυστραλια. (I can not remember how we say "Australia" in Greek.) Με λένε Βιντσέντζο. Ευχαριστώ!
Γεια σου, Βιντσέντζο!! I'm sorry! I misunderstood about the accents. One of these days I will prepare a video on accents. I think it will be helpful to many learners of Greek. You wrote Australia in Greek correctly! Αυστραλία. The initial Αυ are pronounced AF. Thank you!
