Molly has never read a Jane Austen novel. Becca grew up loving them.
Join us as we take the plunge into the Austen canon, starting with Pride and Prejudice. Listen and read along as Molly experiences these books for the first time and learns why the classics are the classics.
I agree 100000% that 2005 P&P is a gateway drug to Jane Austen. That's what happened to me. Now I'm a complete Austenite. Great episode! A lot of the same costuming for Emma is likely more due to budget constraints than communicating an insular life. Zackary is right...those two tone boots of Knightley's are amazing. And good costume info here: Mr. Knightley wears the same waistcoat as Mr. Bennet in P&P 1995 and Tom Lefroy in "Becoming Jane" (green flowered waistcoat).
I am so glad you are doing this Emma - it's my favorite Austen adaptation! And I love Diane and Zan! Perfect Podcast! 💗💗And yes, JLM 💯- all episodes. The soundtrack is indeed gorgeous. I listen to it often!
Hii, I just binged the first season of your podcast between here and spotify, you girls are incredible hosts! I mostly share your thoughts on the book and while I kind of disagree with some of the opinions (both praise and criticism) in the BBC miniseries and the 2005 film episodes, I almost always found the episodes immensly enjoyable to listen to! ✨ One small thing: the way some of the criticism was expressed in these last two episodes felt a little rude, but it might be a matter of personal sensitivity for me. Anyway, both you girls and all your guests are really fun and well spoken and clever, can't wait to listen to the rest of your podcast 💛 And a fun fact: the last scene at Pemberly, it's exclusively in the US / american cut, the rest of us (at least in Europe) did NOT see that!
I just wish you had not invited such an obvious hater of the film. Saying eww constantly was so unnecessary and blatantly disrespectful to the creators and collaborators that worked on the film as well as those who have come to adore this work
Totally valid that you're upset, but we made the choice to invite someone who didn't like the film because we feel it's important to represent a wide range of opinions, especially when it comes to a movie that is controversial within the austen community. Hope you understand!
Hi, so super weird fact I read, the actress that plays Elinor in this version Hattie Morahan, is actually dating the actor that played Edward in From Prada to Nada Blake Ritson (which as you know is another adaptation of Sense and Sensibility)... Anywho just thought it was interesting, love you ladies!!💕
So late for this, but i love love LOVE your podcast! Having a glass of wine, renovating and listen to this at the same time is perfect free time for me
Becca, did you ever see the sense and sensibility 2 episode BBC version? What did you think of it? I really liked that one too... update: Just finished the episode and heard you confirm the eventual watching of the mini series so nevermind!! Lol can't wait to continue listening ❤️
