As good as Stephen was, this compilation of shots does not even compete with the snooker of todays standards. Ronnie is much more impressive as is Judd Trump
If I remember rightly Stephan changed the course of snooker, before he came along it was long and boring, he was the one that started to take risks on longer shots and speed the game up!
I keep saying it - non-snooker players, just try potting say a medium length pot, or cutting in a fairly tight ball and you'll realise how difficult it is. Then watch this guy doing those things - and more - and then have that cue ball arrive at the exact place he means it to go, to the millimetre. It's mind-blowing stuff.
For me he is the best, dominated a whole decade which no one else has done. People say the standard back then was not as good, however he was banging in centuries and frame winning breaks, so it didn't matter who he was playing. There was less tournaments back his days so to have 700+ centuries and 2nd on the ranking list is an amazing achievement. A prime Hendry today will still be winning ranking and World Titles.
Making 776 Century breaks is really amazing in this era with the huge amount of events that there are but to do it back then with only six events per year is utterly ludicrous!!!
You can keep O’Sullivan, Trump and all the others: I watched Hendry from the very beginning to his last match and at his very best he was definitely the best to ever pick up a cue!
He'd only be top ten if the other 9 spots were also held by Ronnie O'Sullivan. Ronnie is the all time no1 and may never be overtaken. Only 2 players have ever played the game close to Ronnie's standards, John Higgins and Judd Trump.
