Nice to meet you! My name is Andreas Christou and I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics as well as a Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition.
I work as a professional clinical dietitian in my home country (Cyprus) where I guide my customers and patients to change their nutrition habits permanently and adopt a healthier lifestyle. My philosophy is that, if the intervention doesn't lead to permanent results, then it wasn't really successful.
Building on that, the central theme of my channel is, of course, nutrition and diet and my major goal is to help people adopt strategies and mindsets that will allow them to permanently change their nutrition.
I accept personal nutrition counseling sessions as well. Email me to schedule a session: andreaschristoudiet@gmail.com
I just watched a video where the guy said just swishing artificial sweetened water and spitting it out raises insulin…. I found that to be hard to believe. Then I found this video …. I mean just looking at food spikes insulin now😂😂😂
What it does is signal to your body you are going to eat which in turn causes your body to store fat. This really only makes a difference if your fasting and don't want to break the fast. Otherwise.....Carry on with eating it.
The original Portfolio Diet guidelines have always emphasized general “plant proteins” and not specifically soy. I believe the focus on soy came from other researchers and health practitioners, not Dr Jenkins himself. Also, the guidelines were later updated to include 45g of oils / mufas daily. It’s also important to note that it’s not an all or nothing diet. Benefit can be found by the daily addition of only a single category of foods from the Portfolio Diet. However, the more categories that are incorporated with an overall healthier diet, the greater the benefits in lowering cholesterol.
I’m not giving up my sucralose. It keeps me on track even though it might slow down my weight loss. I’ve got to have it in my coffee and I love Propel 0 carb and 0 calorie water.
It's amazing, given all the quality evidence that artificial sweeteners are NOT A SIGNIFICANT HEALTH RISK IN ANY WAY how many people with NO "vested interest" in the subject still seem to make this claim. And vehemently defend it in the face of evidence. SUGAR is more of a health risk than aspartame. EDIT: Since I routinely say "sources or BS" and although there are a LOT of sources, HERE IS ONE that I particularly like: ru-vid.comkxxGEzw_FbY?feature=share Not sure if YT will let me post a YT link One BIG PROBLEM with the way the whole "system" (the very complex social and governmental construct that determines medical practice) is that it's very much about MONEY and so even the data and studies that are important base facts are hidden behind paywalls etc. You DO NOT need to be an MD or a Phd (or even a high school graduate) to understand the RESULTS of a study properly presented; you do however have to understand statistics at a level normally associated with entry-level university. BUT YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE RESULTS IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE RESULTS. Which makes it really EASY to use the results to LIE to you.
The study titled "Effect of artificial sweeteners on insulin resistance among type-2 diabetes mellitus patients" (PMID: 7014832) did find evidence suggesting that artificial sweeteners may increase insulin resistance in type-2 diabetes patients. Key findings include: The study divided participants into two groups: those who used artificial sweeteners (Group A) and those who did not (Group B). Insulin resistance was calculated using the HOMA-IR method for both groups. Results showed that the HOMA-IR values for Group A (artificial sweetener users) ranged from 0.9 to 24.33, with a mean of 7.39. For Group B (non-users), HOMA-IR values ranged from 0.12 to 10.83, with a mean of 2.6. The higher mean HOMA-IR value in Group A (7.39) compared to Group B (2.6) suggests that those who used artificial sweeteners had higher insulin resistance. In conclusion, this study did find evidence indicating that artificial sweeteners may be associated with increased insulin resistance among type-2 diabetes patients. This is in contrast to the findings of the systematic review you gave, highlighting the complexity of this topic and the need for further research. The studies you are quoting had been payed by the food industry. But if on low carb diet-high fat diet, if any body ingest anything with Artificial sweetners, which would create an insulin response, wont store glucose, but fat molecule as well. So it is bad. Stupid guy ! Throw ur Medical degree in the dump u take everymorning !
I’m thinking of doing this I have done lots of dietary things for cholesterol but now I need to do something more organized because my LDL is still high.
This was truly excellent! I would emphasize the triangular chart at 3:44 more because it is crucial. As a recent NY Times article noted the problem with most nutritional videos is that they are observational studies and aren’t worth the paper they are written on. That’s because the body is super complicated and it’s hard to isolate variables through observational studies. For that reason, one wants as many randomized, double-blind studies as possible which are precisely designed to isolate effects. They are the gold standard. As a retired engineer what I have noticed, especially among younger technical people, is that they treat all data as if it is created equal. It’s not. I ran oil refineries for a living and some of our data sources were high quality, while others much less reliable. But I constantly saw engineers use the lousy data almost as often as the better data since it was readily available. Sometimes, you have to just forget about some data and toss into the trash can. Kudos! Keep up the good work.
Several studies show that total insulin secreted (AUC) is higher postprandial after consuming artificial sweeteners. The only studies I’ve found that don’t show this rise in insulin were industry funded. Sure, they do not raise insulin or glucose at the time of consumption, but they do increase your daily load of glucose and insulin leading to insulin resistance.
I've read that some people now study the effect of creatine on brain function. Glad to hear it helps you! Hopefully more studies will be done on this topic, cause it's still brand new.
@@acdietitian it's like an espresso without the caffeine, yet it feels healing rather than temporary. Even if my schedule prevents me from making my witchy brew first thing in the morning, I'm still doing far better with creatine.
I can't digest gluten. l suffer with irritation, inflammation and painful flareups. Daily I take 10g of ispaghula husk and 20g of inulin powders. For me it's been a case of more is better. If anyone is suffering from irritation I recommend trying a restrictive diet (to try and find the cause of the irritation) and supplemental fibre. I am a bodybuilder and I when I am taking deca, anavar or winstrol there seems to be a noticeable pain reduction and fewer issues in general.
Exactly. I mention that in my video as well. Restricting common triggers while trying to pinpoint the exact problematic food while at the same time supplementing with fiber in the meantime
I made a video about adaptogens a few weeks ago in which I reference it. I think it's definitely worth giving it a try if you're generally stressed or anxious.
What you do with your hands is exceedingly distracting. Watch the video and you will see what I mean. Whoever was taping you tried to compensate by moving the camera up but it was not effective since your hands and fingers kept popping up continually.
@@thehalfacrepastureMattReads12 wins. Because when you fast the body has a process to naturally makes its own sugar, and it does this because the fast d state compounds steadily, unlike with an insulin rush, sugar is removed abruptly from the blood causing hypoglycemia
Well firstly it’s recently been shown in recent research that these sweeteners don’t cause cancer . Secondly , personally, am 54 I’ve been using a lot of these and different ones for 30 years now and can honestly say I don’t experience any side effects or have any health issues whatsoever and my blood sugar, bp,bmi and waist measurements are all in range . Infact a few people have actually even done some ketosis and blood sugar tests on RU-vid and shows they don’t affect levels during fasting either so I don’t know ? Maybe they might effect some people but if I’ve been fine with them upto now I don’t really see a need to stop .
I like seeing people following the evidence. I had a dietician literally tell me it was going to poison me and give me insulin issues to have one can of no sugar coke every few days. I knew the evidence said she was wrong but was kinda thrown by how forcefully she tried to make the point and worry about her misinforming people and potentially scaring them into doing something we know is dramatically worse in the short term, and from current evidence appears to be the same in the long term.
Unfortunately, having (unreasonably) strong opinions about one side of a subject is a common problem in the field. If you enjoy a can of diet coke every now and then of course there's no harm in enjoying one! 🙂
Great video and very interesting, but I was able to get rid of my four years herpes virus through the help of an African herbalist on RU-vid called Dr okosun, Dr okosun has the permanent cure for herpes and other diseases, he cured me completely from herpes.
