It’s not your engine, it’s the doser injector that pumps def fluid into your dpf. Totally normal operation. If you don’t hear it, your exhaust system would clog up and you’ll have check engine lights until you’re on the side of the road in derate mode.
My truck does the same thing I took it several times to the dealership they said it’s normal. But I think something might be wrong someone said it might be the lifters.
My 2022 just broke down went limp mode w emissions problems after month @ dealership for repairs. came out making same similar knocking nose. Was told same B.S. its normal, but now engine light came on... now what next?
Define normal. Normal as in “the DEF injector makes that sound sometimes?” Or normal as in “today I want you to call me ‘they’?” Personally I would never call that “normal.” Maybe “annoying” or “bullshit.”
Yes, my 2024 3500 Chevy Silverado Duramax has the exact same ticking noise. Heard it from day one. Drives me nuts but after reading all these I guess it’s normal.
My 2022 2500hd does the same thing. I took it to 2 dealers and they say it’s normal. I have noticed if I hear it when I first turn it on, I can get it to go away for a little bit by turning off the truck then back on. But will eventually come back. I hear it in the exhaust system. My 23 2500 with the duramax does this too and it only has 600 miles on it, rear end clunk when turning and hitting bumps too, not too happy with gm, also the rear doors sound cheap and “echoey” when shutting them….the seat belt chime won’t go off until the door opens. Anyone else experiencing these issues?
Thanks for showing this. Exact same sound on my 2022 3500HD with 6000kms, took it to the dealership they said its normal and gave a brochure showing Duramax ticking sounds. They should have gave this before I bought the truck, not after. My2006 LLY never done this, so much for feeling proud owning a new top of the line GMC when your stomach turns every time you start it.
2006 lly does not have a DPF or systems to reduce emissions besides EGR. The ticking noise is normal it is the hydrocarbon injector just sprays diesel to heat up the DPF to burn the soot. Then the reductant injector also sprays making a tick noise to reduce NOx .
This will blow your mind. My 2016 GMC HD2500 6.0 gas burner does a similar thing. I changed the oil with the same oil and same brand of filter that I have always used and it started doing this. It has 58,000 miles on it now.
My “22 silverado 2500HD had horrible engine noises. GM said it was normal. Needless to say, I traded it in with 5,800 miles on a Ram 2500 and there’s been no looking back. My silverado had some serious quality issues.
