@@jbitt1617 I think Dandy's thought process is that instead of trading brick 2-1 for any resource, he would trade brick 1 for 1 or even 1 for 2 with players. also taking early brick port might make him an easy target with the 6 block.
very good game !! I am thinking about the set up, you always find ways to surprise me, I would have gone 10/9 ore port, 6 12 11 thinking it was very good ows set up
I want to play colonist but it is very laggy on my computer. I have my resolution low, animations off, running webGL, updated chrome, and am using an Ethernet cable. Still no better I’m not sure what to do to make this game playable on my computer
masters in this game sometime make move that I really do not understand, for me here 10 6 9 at the beginning would have been an install call, I really need to understand how to get to this kind of moves !
Moderation is a serious problem on colonist, I personally reported people being very rude and speaking proper S**T in chat, I mean, things that a kid could really be shocked for. The website did not ban the account.
I really don’t think it’s as bad as people think. Online gaming will always have a mix of players and personalities. I went to college during the Modern Warfare 2/3 days and dealt with the most toxic lobbies you could imagine. Playing a board game just doesn’t compare at this point 🤣
I had one of these games a bit ago where I felt like I was in a good position with two towns on an 8 and a good number and resource spread. At the end of the game, there was nearly triple the 6s rolled than 8s

@dandy, do you think that at 9:30 in the video if you offered to trade orange if he promised not to plow you on the port, does he take it (and would he renege)?
feel like giving black that really good trade in the beginning for the plow wasn’t worth it when there’s another 3:1 port on the 5 ore. otherwise well played GG!
It was a heavy handed trade, no doubt. Losing my port play would hurt my game and there was the risk he would 7 out, which did happen in hindsight. In these situations, you have to take calculated risks in hopes you can be the player who gets the momentum. To be fair, he would have had the city even without the trades since he wouldn't have 7ed out and used his wheat port for the ore so it ended up working out.
@@dandydrew with hindsight would it have been best to go straight for the 3 1 port instead of 3 10 11 so that you wouldn't need that trade? not sure it would have mattered with blacks set up regardless really
There are 4 ways to improve your hand efficiency: 1. You can place on ideal ratios of resources. This is best case but usually to make that happen, players sacrifice starting production to have all 5 resources. 2. You can trade to fix a stuck hand - In this situation, there’s a surplus of wheat and I have good reasons to believe I can make trades for them. 3. You can port to deal with having a lack of a particular resource. 4. You can build to spots that improve your ratios. Early on since you don’t have as much production as the late game due to cities and expansions, the ports aren’t as useful… It’s primarily a mid to late game option to churn the extra production you are receiving from a city or settles. The reason the 3 10 11 is important here is that my wood and brick ratios improve dramatically while helping me secure a long term road. In an ideal situation, I get the 3 10 11 about as fast as I did, and get one of the excess wheat or roll the 4 to get to the port immediately following. I didn’t get any 4s until it was too late and wasn’t receiving trades from the other players. Strategically, I also believe the wood port was a better play for the other player since realistically, that’s the resource he would be porting anyways. I stand by the 3 10 11 and think it dramatically speeds up my game assuming black doesn’t take off.
@@dandydrew thanks for the reply! just trying to improve my own game. i agree about the other player going to wood port. only would use a 3 1 port in his situation after 2 cities maybe. i usually default to going to a port first if its somewhat contested but i see your reasoning to get production first especially in a road game. good tip to keep in mind
One of the main reasons I stopped playing competitively... too much reliance on the other players to accurately assess the board and block the right player. In lower elo games (<1600) it can completely spin a game out of control like this one. Of course you benefit from it in some games as well... but still, it throws the balance of the game and makes it more RNG than I prefer. Ggs Drew! Gratz on rank 1 🎉

I'm very co fused on the settlement on the 9. The explanation was what yellow wrote on the chat, that you wanted to get another setlle on the 1. This makes no sense to me. Before you settled on the 9 it was already impossible to get 3 settles on the 10 due to your settle on the top right of the 9. So trying to get more on the 10 doest make sense, I'd you settled on the 9 10 port you'd have the maximum 2 settles on the 10 brick that is allowed by the game-state. Can someone provide the actual reason to settle on the 9 instead of the 9 10
nothing unusual about the amount of 10s if you ask me Also this board was stacked with big spots in placements Also I love seeing gameplay where Drew doesn’t get away with table talking so easily. Feels like high level gameplay when people call him out with “Drew you are one card off the city here”
I know! All good. It’s tough but in practice, the table has to handle all threats the best they can. I was always the rob and block for the table. I do think after I cleared my hand with 1 brick in it, hitting Giggs was more fair, but it’s a tough call from the table. Overall, I am lucky the 10s didn’t show up this game otherwise it would be a very different endgame. Thanks for the support!
some good players in this game, still falling a bit for Drew's table talk, everyone at 5 or 6 when Drew's on 8 win in hand. These people are too gullable and nice : )
Leaving the Wheat port open on this board was insanity. Can't believe that went to 4th. It would be my first pick. The Sheep and Brick are both low. Getting Brick with a very strong port gives a lot of flexibility. Getting an OWS hex on top of that was pretty cracked. I'm sure someone will say something like "oh but it can't be that strong; he only just won", but that's results-based analysis. The dice were super skewed: only 4x 5s and 2x 9s. Probabilistically, this setup is crazy strong and should never have made it through to 4th.
This is the nature of stacked boards and 4th position. Some boards just give 4th too many pairing options and other boards make it painful for 4th to find compatibility. I think Navid could have taken 6511 to limit my potential but I have so many options with the 8911, it’s better he focuses on playing offensively and working the board.
@@FungluttonI am not sure really. I might consider 8510 to know I have a development card game given the lack for sheep. 695 looks good but I really don’t think it works well in practice when you factor the outs and lack of port potential.
When you held are around the 41 mins mark and then the 5 rolled but there was not enough ore to give our cards would you consider that a big brain strategy to hold cards so that others might not get cards if their roll happens?
Toxic? I think we have very different outlooks on what toxic is because this is just a fun energetic game with friends. Nothing toxic about this game at all.
@@dandydrew I agree. Smart players are not easily influenced by even The Great And Powerful Dandy Drew's table talk. Sure it has some influence, but players at this level are VERY aware that every opponents has their own interest in mind.
