There's actually another video on my channel where 5 men meet up in the bedroom at the end of Level 20. 💀 🤣 (Because the mouse sprite is replaced by the sprite of the 2 guards carrying the Prince away -- from the intro scene.)

If you've watched many video game documentaries, you may be familiar with the idea of games reading data from the wrong place, which causes glitched graphics. Examples include level 256 on Pac-Man Arcade, or the glitched piece colors on NES Tetris. The setup early in this run is an elaborate combination of precise moves that cause the game to jump to Level 16, so that the vast majority of the game may be skipped without using a password. The first time you see all of the visual mess of colors in the background, the game has changed the level counter to Level 0. It's a special level in the game, which can instantaneously Warp the player to another level if his sword is pulled out. So, in order to complete the Warp setup, we make sure not to approach the guard again! In this particular setup, many pieces of data are being collected from the wrong place. Here's an example of how it might work: The game wants to draw some bricks in the background, so usually it would read the byte at location #6,804, which contains the correct background tile. But instead, the RAM gets screwed up, and the game tries to read the background tile data from location #4,186. This could be completely random data relating to a different process, but the game reads this data anyway, converts it into a jumbled of random colors, and spits it out onto the tv screen. So Level 0 is shrouded in video corruption here, and the Prince's animation tiles are given in the wrong order, so he starts wiggling around like a weirdo while he's running around. Finally, the setup is completed, the Prince is Warped to Level 16, and the new level begins with the Level 16 music, as usual. But the video corruption hasn't been fixed yet, and the Prince's animations have now been pulled from completely different character sets, including Guard, Jafar, and Skeleton. At the beginning of Level 17, progress has been established by completing Level 16, and then we can exit to main menu, continue saved progress, and restart Level 17 without the video corruption, and actually see where we are going. So this speedrun does require some memorization of Level 16, since you can't really see where you are going.

Each time, one of them was opening for Dark Tranquility at Trees in Dallas. It was marvelous seeing these two bands on the same night this time. I had never realized they both had the same guitar player as a long-time member of both bands!!!!!

It may not be the easiest to find every video, but i provide fairly lengthy discussions in the descriptions of almost every video. And for a complete running account of everything i know, and to the best of my understanding, you can see everything discussed in great detail on the TASvideos forum, under SNES & Prince of Persia. It's a lot of reading. But the best advice i can give is just to trust that it is was it is, and try to duplicate it all exactly for yourself by watching and listening.

I play strictly on USA console with original USA cartridge. Challenger has recreated all of these glitches with TAS on emulator using USA rom. We have confirmed that these glitches do not work on Japanese version. However, i do not think either of us has tested EUR/PAL version. My speculations: No idea if EUR/PAL version runs at the exact same speed. I'm not familiar with PAL SNES, but i can imagine it is similar to PAL N64, which we all know runs differently, given the famous difference between PAL & USA times on Mario Kart 64. Even if EUR/PAL version of SNES Prince of Persia introduced code to approximate same timing, i do not think it would be exactly the same, and any fundamental programming changes like this would probably mean glitches do not work.

@@rickgames7921 i edited the previous comment to add some further speculation about the EUR/PAL version.

@rickgames7921 I think there is something magical about these glitches. The USA version was compiled in just the right way, somehow. If you use a level editor to change & recompile the rom, even the smallest change ruins everything, and the glitches no longer work on the new edited ROM.

I've probably shared too many at this point. Lol. I've tried my best to keep the most updated videos together in the playlists. Currently working on improving the Any% Warp-16 record, shooting for a 6;52.x before i get back to the Warpless category (beat all 20 levels with the Gate Thief). Hard to believe it's already been 2-3 years since i last ran the longer category. Hoping I'm not too rusty when i pick it up again. You interested in trying to beat my Any% record? Sub-7 minutes isn't too hard if you practice level 16 a bunch. Playing "blind" is pretty easy, since the footsteps and distances are very consistent. No one's been playing besides me!

@@AkumaAPN I'm training hard to be able to compete with you. Its gameplay level is very accurate. I still need more training, but I will try to get close to your time. Prince of Persia is an amazing game!

@rickgames7921 i think my way of training is the best. Use debug menu to start an individual level with 0 time on the clock. Then use the password generator (pc app) to make a list of the passwords in the time range you're shooting for. So every time you finish a full level, and see the password at the end, you'll know how far behind you are from the target time. Two extra animations = 1 extra time unit. And each time unit is a different password. So it's a really good consistent system for tracking your progress without having to stop and put a video on the computer & do a frame count.

@@rickgames7921 the rest comes naturally with time. Getting the timing against the footstep sounds, as any deviation from my videos or the TAS usually means an extra animation.

@rickgames7921 i don't know if you saw this, but you can follow the complete progress of everything on the tasvideos forum. Challenger & I went back & forth there with all of our theories & discoveries. His TAS tests are there also. If you want to get the BizHawk emulator, you can play back his TAS's & capture video during playback to have videos for reference.

That's great! I did the same thing at a Flaming Lips concert in 2012. The confetti exploded right overhead, and I saved a few pieces. They are still on my bookshelf, 11 years later!

I took this video directly from the Red Green RU-vid channel. They have the full length Episode 17 available for viewing on their channel. I just did a short HD Upconversion job of my favorite clip.

This was the first show with my new phone (Galaxy s23), and I was marveling at how much better it is than my 2018 moto. And I felt like I was in the perfect spot for the venue. All the speakers pointed right at me, "Emperor 1991" right behind Ihsahn's head, and the circle pit right in front of me. So I was able to capture all of the action and the lights.

I was at a Korn concert here in Portland back in '20 w/ my daughter b4 Covid & when they opened with 'Here To Stay', Chino Moreno sat right in front of my camera with his wife! 🤣

With Tom on guitar, and Jerry on drums, they could have called this "The Tom & Jerry Show!" And as a matter of fact, they did, but with a twist. At the time, this tour was billed as "The Jom & Terry Show." Jerry is fantastic!!! I got a few good shots of him going wild on the drum set in these 3 videos.
