I purchased this book a hundred years ago and have never forgotten it. It is startling. At one point Lauren became a street prostitute, i believe, which is the last fate anyone could ever imagine from this 1950's 'Kitten'. In jail, a "Father Charles" came to her with helpful advice. As a teenager I was once in jail, arrested for shoplifting god know what and a "Brother Charles" came to me as well. Was it the same person? I have always wondered...
