I don't know why there is even a discussion on dissipators. It's fame is literally because of the rifle length gas system which reduces the recoil it was discovered on accident. The military wanted a shorter M16 so the manufacturer cut the barrel back to the sight post which then caused the rifle to be under gassed but that problem was easily fixed by increasing the diameter of the gas port increasing the amount of gas flowing into the gas system. At the end of all this they noticed it actually reduced recoil of the rifle. It had nothing to do with the sight post or the hand guard they both stayed the same size all the manufacturer did was cut back the barrel from 20 to 16 as the army instructed then fixed the issues that that caused and then they noticed the recoil was reduced which caused them to coin the phrase "Dissipator" because it dissipated the recoil.
@cognition26
@cognition26 20 часов назад
Also the new army rifle the Sig Sauer XM7 is a dissapator and the barrel is even shorter at 13 inches.

12g is a great weapon for the home as long as you have plenty of ammo at hand, if your in the woods how much ammo are you going to have/carry? shotgun is bigger than a bullet it may be lighter but it takes up 3/4 times the space. Certainly I would be happy with a good shotgun and limited ammo+a good pistol too.
@NavySooner
@NavySooner 2 дня назад
@@russelldavis8415 I’d still take an AR in a home defense situation. Everyone is under the assumption you just can’t ever miss with a shotgun. So what happens when you do? A semi-auto no matter the brand is more prone to jamming, pumps are VERY likely to be short stroked under stressful situation, AR gives faster follow up shots due much less recoil, more ammo without a reload even if you do live in a 10 rd state, and if you do then you get faster reloads. Also before I made this comment I took every type of shotgun round I own and weighed it against 4 different 5.56 rds and two different subsonic 300blk rds. It’s close if you have 300 subs but still not one of my shotgun rds was light than any round I own that you can put in an AR-15. And I would 100% rather have an AR in the woods over a shotgun and a pistol.

@@LinearTactics lol, EVERYONE literally cares more about bolt hold open more than the release. I’d a rather have faster way of getting the bolt held open on a malfunction to clear it than the 1/10000000 of a second of pressing a bolt release and then still having to move your trigger finger back to the trigger. The time change is and has always been negligible when it comes to reloads and having a ambi bolt release. There have been people proving this all over the internet.

Field stripping would be very important for SHTF. People don’t often talk about it, but if you dirty up your FA in snow, mud or water, then servicing it will be the difference between having a FA that works and one that doesn’t work. SKS is easy to field strip, and the toolkit comes included - well tucked away in the butt stock.
@NavySooner
@NavySooner 21 день назад
@@helterskelter156 that tool kit gonna be able to get the firing pin out when junk gets into the firing pin channel and starts turning your SKS into non-function or slam firing machine gun?
@helterskelter156
@helterskelter156 21 день назад
@@NavySooner Yup. It does. You just need to tap out one pin, and you’re golden. Important to note that the whole idea of a free floating pin getting stuck is way overrated. Anybody that ever had any issues with their firing pin getting stuck either didn’t clean the bolt properly and had cosmoline that gunked up further after some use, or completely neglected to clean the rifle after many rounds of corrosive ammo. If you use CLP (heck, even used engine oil might do), the likelihood your pin gets stuck after any reasonable amount of use is much less likely than anybody beating the “stuck firing pin” drums will try and make you believe.
@NavySooner
@NavySooner 21 день назад
@@helterskelter156 there’s a hammer and punch in the kit? Don’t ever remember seeing that. I’ve “just tapped out” plenty of those and half if not more need some good hammering.
@helterskelter156
@helterskelter156 21 день назад
@@NavySooner Again, needing a full service of the pin is an overkill, and the stuck pin is somewhat of a myth- exacerbated by people who’ve either left cosmoline in the bolt allowing the schmoo to collect in the channel, or ppl who neglected even the most basic maintenance. However, if you insist on taking the pin out, then you can easily do it with a hammer- yes. If you’ve no hammer handy, then a smooth river rock is your friend. If you cannot find means to knock that pin out, using the toolkit, then you’re not very resourceful. And if you’re not resourceful enough to do that, then I’m sorry to disappoint, but the SHTF situation will chew you up and spit you out.
