I have 2 cockatiels who we keep in separate cages because they are male and female - that's why there's only 1 shown in this video. But their cages are open most of the day and they hang out together and eat together. They have very different personalities and still look to us for attention but they do spend lots of time together. We've had both of them for over 10 yrs now.
I have 3 cockatils and i keep them in the same cage 2males 1female.why do u separate them?and at night i cover only 70%of the cage because is know that they need a lil bit a light during the sleep.anyway your cockatiel looks happy.💪👍
Bless you for caring. Yes, greens, fruit, I leave carrots, tops, parsley, beet tops, sunflower seeds( no salt) greens, kale or romane lettuce when I can . 🤗💜 Water if they Need it. You have lots of LOVE & KINDNESS, they know it! Enjoy your wonderful experience of new friends, it is beautiful relationship. Thank you for sharing 🤗💜🤗💜
Yes, someone else also reached out to let me know. I've stopped feeding them bread and am sticking with leafy greens and some fruit. Thanks for reaching out and for caring about our furry friends.
thank you, was worried no one here had a brain But yes, it's nice that you're trying to take care of the rabbit. But bread lacks nutrition for them and can cause gut blockage and severe sickness in the worst case. Rabbits eat grass, hay, leafy greens, sometimes fruit (ideally dried). Look up what they can and can't eat, it's one Google search away. It's the most basic level of care you could take before caring for any animal.
Excellent video, James! I can one hundred percent relate. I do the same thing, and have been for months now! I can now hand feed them, pet them and lie down with them. I had the unforgettable experience of having my favourite, Jaxie, breastfeed her babies right in front of me! I sat motionless in tears as I watched. I'll never forget it and we'll be pals forever. It's really rewarding to give these cute little critters a vacation from stress. I find they do the same for me too. Keep up your great work and say hi to your little pal(s) for me. Sub'd. 🙂
Thanks for your comment. Your connection to your wild rabbits is awesome and I love the fact that you've been able to pet them and lie down with them! Being a part of nature up close and personal like that is a special gift that not many people experience - and it definitely helps relieve stress. Glad you got the chance to experience it. I'm still working on getting my "pet" rabbit comfortable enough with me so that, one day, I can give her head a rub.
@@JamesBiggs-Kayaker Have you ever tried lying down during your feeding sessions? I found this really helped a lot, and gives your pal a better eye to eye view with you and I think they feel less in danger when you're down low. My Jaxie eats literally a foot from my face and sometimes she'll just stare away at my ugly mug for a long time. Once, I saw her let out a huge yawn - it was amazing, I could see all her teeth and the close up view was great. I just think that spending time with them repeatedly is the best thing. I've been with mine now for about 8 months or so. How long has your pal known you? Do they have a name? 🙂
P.S. I had to log in here to tell you (you're the first I've told - it just happened)...try lying down. I was just rewarded by doing so with a kiss on the nose! lol. Amazing! 🙂
Hi there. This is cottontail rabbit which are very common in our area. Hares are larger than rabbits and have longer ears and hind legs. Hope that helps.
@JamesBiggs-Kayaker I think it would be cool if you made a separate RU-vid account dedicated to Kramer and Puddy, or you can even change the name of your current RU-vid account. There are several channels dedicated to cockatiels, and a couple of them are quite popular. You can even talk to viewers about how to care for cockatiels 👍😃.
Why you have to wake someone up and say goodbye? I remember i had the same mistake when i thought i will give him the freedom by opening /putting the cover away but now i just leave him alone untill it's 10-12 hours sleeping is done.
I don't really say "goodbye" to our birds in the morning, I only do that at night. In fact, they generally say "Bye Bye" to me at night when they're ready for bed and want to be covered. I just said "Bye Bye" in the video because I was putting the camera away (he was whistling at it so I was letting him know I was putting it away). Our cockatiels are 14 and 15 years old and we've been covering their cage since we got him so they're used to it and even remind us if we forget to cover them up at night. It comforts them and makes sure they get their 11+ hrs of sleet each night. It's ok not to cover them as long as their cage is in a quiet, secluded spot.
Yes, it is named a Grey "Catbird" because of its sound - although I haven't really heard a call that sounds like a cat. Catbirds are related to mockingbirds but catbirds are smaller and their breast is darker (mockingbirds have paler breasts). They are both aggressive birds and they do have similar songs.
aw, how cute. Open the cage and let him out. Cockatiels need socialization, and they don't get it if they're behind bars all the time. They're intelligent social birds, not coffee tables.
Totally agree. This video is just as we are opening the cage first thing in the morning. He loves to socialize with us and with our second cockatiel so he's out of the cage most of the day.
So true - we have the same problem with starlings and grackles here and the 2 red bellied woodpeckers that come around aren't enough to chase them all away. But I guess they all need to eat.
