I think maybe a stream flowed over a deposit of malachite, grinding the rock into sand or silt. Humans maybe came across this by accident in the river bed, and found it could be used as a pigment. Someone built their campfire on top of the malachite sand, and later when the fire went out they found copper metal in the ashes.
Fascinating theory! We thought a similar thing but from the information we found, a fire would not be hot enough to melt Malachite. We haven't tested it, so all bets are off :) Cheers!
@@mindex_ Is there anywhere in the world where a lava flow could have engulfed a malachite deposit during a volcanic eruption? I understand that the ancient Egyptians discovered glass in the desert made from an asteroid impact. Maybe somewhere an asteroid impact hit a surface malachite deposit en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libyan_desert_glass
@@curtisnixon5313 It could be possible, but it would unlikely be associated with the start of the Copper Age. Given how copper smelting arises at different locations across the globe and time, civilizations would need to know they were facing an asteroid impact site and make the connection of astronomical heat melting the malachite. Besides, not a lot of impact craters are kept intact on the surface of our planet from the 'conveyor belt' effect of plate tectonics, and the recycling of the crust, which means this possibility is reduced greatly. I don't know if the sites where we found that Malachite was associated with impact sites (again, unlikely), but it would be interesting to look further into. For the question about volcanic activity, I personally don't know if it happened, but I would not be surprised if it did! Again, on the rare occasion it could, would that be associated with the start of the Copper Age? It's definitely intriguing! Cheers :)

Cool video! Very informative. I like it that you show different forms of the minerals you are talking about. Talking about the composition and applications of the mineral is also very useful.
Thanks for the kind comment! The goal is to be a space where someone can come without a lot of experience and have a fairly good idea of what they found on the field.
Very informative. We have a mix of pyrite and chalcopyrite in a formation of gneiss that we mine for the dimensional stone industry at the company I work for. I'm dizzy though.

Hi Min*dex, i loved both of your videos as I am an amatuer who only recently started rock and mineral collecting. So far, I have Rose Quartz, Dark quartz with rutile needles, Citrine, Clear quartz with unidentifiable inclusions, an amethyst crystal with a purple top but a clear bottom, Smoky Quartz, Blue quartz which has been tumbled but its not opaque? also a clear quartz which has inclusions like bith of light silvery dirt,I also have a specimen of aragonite crystals maybe 25 not on matrix, Brazilian Amethyst cluster on a matrix which includes 4 different minerals finally a large Aragonite crystal.
