Ancile has pretty bad UX, so I am not surprised dog doesn't use it. If follow order was better and/or the radius bigger, you would likely see more anciles. As of right now I think it's easy to shut down the shield with aoe, so I'd suspect it's not as useful as it once was. Curious what you think ofcourse?

It's *more* useful than it was previously *because* it blocks splash damage. Yes, it requires some micro to use properly, no, that's not "bad UX". It's just something that you need to have on a separate control group, which, when I watch people play, is not something 99% of players do.

Idk where gas for ancille comes from, I have 3 base and the zerg at basically even econ is still attacking me from a single direction and pushing my tank line back. If I'm supposed to cut my tank line by 1/3 for some extra hp I think the zerg is just able to do the same stuff but break my line instead

@@Pr0nogo Bad UX comes from the fact that due to how follow order is coded and deceleration you can't exactly place it at the spot you want them to be at, and their range is super small (consider aoe in cm is center based, not border based). The unit is slow and sluggish unreliable. In my honest opinion. I hate to use it at small scale with static bunkers even, not to mention actual big dynamic fights, the return on investment is small. Doesn't feel good to use. You are right with aoe, but it's also just it pops so quickly...

Veeq7: I have seen a stack of 6 or so Anciles take sustained fire for 10+ seconds and not have their collective shields break, so I don't think it pops as quickly as you think. They are also pretty responsive imo, you just click a bit past the units you want to protect and hit holdpos. Deceleration is basically nonexistent in CM, reads like a fake complaint to me since you don't need to be pixel precise. Follow order probably wouldn't change what you are describing since you often want to box select anyway, but feel free to try to improve it for air units.

During 2nd game im too tilted to play, pretty sure you can easily hold from my position 1st game 100 workers on 3 bases is basically equal economy with 60 as long as I can deny 4th just unlucky

40:20 There was a Spring Engine game called EvolutionRTS that solved this problem by having adjacent power plants unlock units, based on the number of adjacent power plants. Maybe something like the number or pylons powering a gateway, or having higher-tier power structures unlock units in gateways, would add tech gating while maintaining a sense of connection that the add-on system and power grid already has

This idea was already considered, but the primary issue is that AI have no easy way to know if they are placing pylons in a way that will benefit their ability to produce better units.

The Immortal stuff is correct, specifically the costs of production buildings (relative to SC2) were 100 alloy (read: minerals) more expensive in Immortal as they folded in supply depots. It was later increased alongside an across-the-board increase to all costs except units, to make a bad fight less of a death spiral situation where the victor of that fight could more easily run away with building a yet bigger army while the loser was trying to rebuild, but that effect was more a consequence of production structures being able to produce 5/8s of the supply they provide per production cycle than a consequence of providing supply. However, that massively parallel production does mean that after 2 or so production structures of a given type, subsequent ones are usually just expensive supply depots, except when it comes to rebuilding from a total army wipe, which happen less as you get better anyway. It’s an interesting experiment, but one that I think ultimately suffers from some design contradictions between making the game feel approachable to new players both when building armies initially and when trying to stay in the game after the first fight likely leads to an army wipe because discretion has not yet been internalized as sometimes being the better part of valour, since their opponent benefits from those same approachability features, and thus can get their army ready for round 2 terrifyingly quickly

In age of mythology and most/all other games of the series, once you hit higher ages all your buildings get a new look. Same for (some) unit upgrades.

Yeah... I had that thought about T2 structures back unlocking T1 units (and so for T3 unlocking T2, etc). So for example: - Grand Library unlocks Ecclesiast and Idol - Rogue Gallery unlocks Legionnaire - Stargate unlocks Vassal - Ardent unlocks Golem and Hierophant (same repeated for T3 unlocking T2) Not sure though... Didn't think I would pitch it. Not sure we have enough pairings to make it work sensibly, I guess ideally each structure unlocks one unique unit per previous structure. I also wish Terran had something global that unlocked one of the each basic and addon units. So for example academy unlocks cyprian, eidolon, and shaman. Zerg I suppose is best right now, because they have this tech tree verticality already in the sense of "upgrading" existing infra, since all their tech upgrades either larva or a unit to morph to something new. They and Terran don't have a way to focus vertically (since they have tier ups). Was thinking about some definitions, since it might be confusing, I thinks it's ideal when tech tree has 2 kinds of verticality - Ability to focus vertically (tech based play style e.g. fast penumbra) or horizontally (amount based play style e.g. mass gate). - Ability to scale what you have vertically (e.g. upgrade your gateways with new unit unlock, or increase their rate with crucible, morph a unit)

I don't want the fragmentation to be quite so granular, since that runs counter to the Protoss tech ethos anyway. And I don't think it works for Terran either, given you are blocking unit production just to build addons for access. Addons being more about tempo as a way to "peek" your tier 2 seems like a more compelling idea to me. I am not sure if there's any way to do that elegantly with Protoss, but maybe they don't need it since they have far more flexible tech requirements than the other races.

@@Pr0nogo I agree that being too granular at the scale of the tech tree we have would be overwhelming on learn, but also I feel like making some of the gateway etc assessible only if commited to enabling tech structure, would be healthy for pacing. Same for terran.

What's probably better than nerfing production cost is just nerfing the time cost of all units it produces by uniform percentage. It has similar effect on throughput, but is more organic, and promotes building more production, rather than going back to a place where we have a lot more time between meaningful infrastructure decisions.

I would be concerned about this unless we also hit Zerg spawn rate, which would have far-reaching implications when it comes to workers. I think it's not something we can do in CM as it stands.

19:00 This would give some defenders advantage on a strategic level to players who have a base repeatedly denied by the enemy. As even as they are reduced to a lower eco level for the duration of the denial, their opponent will not be receiving the same rejuvenation of their equivalent base across the map, which may make enough of a difference to allow the defender to bounce back once they actually manage to capture the base.

40:50 I knew based on one of the streams that top players of TT were going to pick factions, so I went ahead and read up on some of the lore on the site and thought Nydus Trinity was a good pick beforehand because I had only played TvT and TvP and used some pocket builds - "reviled and distrusted by other Terrans", "lures Terrans and Protosses into traps" I thought Upstarts would also have been a good pick due to underdog status and given some of my upsets

1:12:35 I like the idea of the fulcrum needing the addon to produce siege tanks at tier 1, but after you get the atlas the fulcrum no longer needs it and you can just globally train phalanx’s from every fulcrum you have.

You could make it more distinct from the theoretical Terran globalized change by having it where the “universal” upgrade is also reliant on chaining power fields. So for example, you build a Grand Library in power field X, which is also making contact with field field Y, which is also connected to field Z, any gateways built in X, Y, or Z gain the ability to build their higher tier units without the need for an advanced Pylon so long as the Grand Library is alive. You can then do this with higher tier buildings like Argosies unlocking advanced Stargate options, or to go back to the Templar branch example, Grand Libraries benefiting from being linked to Ancestral Archives.

48:29 I generally agree with veeqs senitment that high ground middles should be avoided. But on this map in particular I think a serious improvement would be to make the middle base high ground with the same resource layout, but its omnidirectional ramps.
