Great audio quality while on the bike. Can barley hear the engine. They drive on the wrong side of the road though. 😂 Are there any road rules? Looks like total chaos and free-for-all on the roads.

Right, that's the extreme version but you're definitely right. Another version could be a millionaire flying to a foreign country and staying for an extended time frame. Excellent Perspective, Thanks
For an early retiree wanting $3,000 per month in passive income adjusted for inflation before tax, you need approximately $1.2 million investment portfolio invested in a global or S&P 500 ETF / index fund. This is based on a 3% withdrawal rate.
That's some tight driving around there. I kind of like it .Looks like traffic laws are kind of just a suggestion. Still, I want a motorcycle over there not a scooter .
One thing I always notice watching a lot of videos of driving around there is that I never notice any cops pulling people over .I'm sure there has to be alot of people drinking and driving with all the bars too.Do they leave you alone on traffic laws?
There are speed cameras all over Thailand. I went over a year without a ticket and in the the last month I have received 2 tickets in the month. The police also have area traditionally known for checkpoints and usually late a night they conduct random sobriety checks.
Hi Tom! I`m very familiar with Thepprasit Soi 6, I lived close by for a year a long time ago, in one of the pool villas to the left, halfway in. There is also an entrance from the other side, at the market there. There is a small lake inside that area, we used to feed the fish daily, and some turtles. It`s a pretty quiet community, and a breath of fresh air from the more busy areas surrounding it, with both reasonably new and older villas. Thanks for the tour, love these videos, which bring back good memories 🤗🤗
@@MargaritasinParadisel lived in maimi lakes ,and the Hollywood fla area . Tom is right, make sure you have plenty of money .And be prepared to drive in heavy traffic with lots of people who do not read english or understand traffic laws and stand in line wherever you go. Because it's super crowded .The further south you go in the maimi metro ,seems like the worse it gets .My mother lives up in Boca Raton .it doesnt seem to be as bad up there ,but it's even more expensive as it also is in the palm beach area .
I hope you’re wrong. Personally, I think many people are over reacting. The original intent was Thai Nationals bringing big income from abroad. I don't believe, this is targeted towards the average retiree, some bringing in less that say 1M baht a year. Anyway, I know this is still developing.
I'm sorry, I think you need to expand your boundaries maybe go golfing or to Dongtan beach in the evening for beach volleyball, or Jomtien for pickleball, or just about any coffee shop, of course roadside restaurants are great for people watching or meeting people as well. Going to the beach, rent a chair, take a walk on the boardwalk, grab a massage or go to Koh Larn. Take the Ferry and meet a ton of people, hang out at your accommodation pool and meet people there, heck I even meet people on the elevators. Many of the beaches have aerobics classes every evening. Bali high offer fishing tours where you can meet even more people. I think you have to find what interest you and go meet the like minded people doing those things. If nothing else, and I know this is a bar. You could come meet me at Leo's on Wednesdays/Saturdays at Leo's to eat and a cola. maps.app.goo.gl/tFnKatoaCSFj68re6 Good Luck, Tom
@@MargaritasinParadise That's very generous of you to write this post, You've nailed it. Everything I need to do, I'm just also dealing with culture shock, been here two months. If I'm ever near that Bar, I will swing by and say hello, I've been living in Boston Ma for 40 years also. Regards
@@barryoneill-ec9zz Ay? I'm from the UK living in Thailand and Vietnam alone since 2016 and I've never drank alcohol and have no problem meeting anyone are very rarely go to a bar. It's all about mindset and being motivated to live your best life. To be honest though, I didn't come half way around the world to meet more people from the UK or the West, I came here to get away from them, most of them are nothing but trouble. I do my own thing, keep fit, cycling, walking, watch sports live and on TV, do stuff online and have random conversations every time I go out and couldn't be happier. Cost of living, safety, culture, friendliness of locals, every day sun, what's not to like. 🥰 Compared to living in the collapsing West, this life is on a different level 👍🥳
It's funny you mention this; I was just discussing this with another friend. Anyway, I don't have a video on this topic but will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.
Really liked the video. I am originally from Tokyo and have lived in Singapore for 12 years until early this year before relocating to Pattaya. Yes, I got puzzled by many things you shared at first, especially inefficiencies which you would rarely face in Japan and Singapore. But I realized that I should be the one who adapts to them because I am getting the benefits from Pattaya (i.e. beach life, good foods/drinks with high quality of condo at insanely cheap budget!) which no way you can get in those countries (and obviously the U.S as you mentioned). Weigh the pros and cons, manage your expectations and enjoy!
Wow, That's definitely high for Thailand. Do you use the property for rental? Is this property appraised value super high? I definitely don't know the area but am curious.
09:05 As a 38 y.o. who is considering Pattaya, I’m highly concerned about this. I know I can get women there, no problem. But it’d be nice to have a solid expat friend group that I could play beach volleyball with, for instance.
I get this. My advice is to evaluate the things you most like to do. Then search the area for like minded people. I'm a golfer so that's real easy for me but as you mentioned "beach volleyball" there's beach volleyball every night on Dongtan Beach about 25 M south of Sea Rescue, (1700-2000 I'm guessing) maps.app.goo.gl/FtPWUGWm7yRU8euZ6 I think there's 3 courts there. Also I think there's another group that plays nightly across from the Jomtien Night Market of Jomtien Beach Road. Please try keeping your eyes open and look because there's other people looking for you as well. Good Luck.
@@MargaritasinParadise Great! Thank you for your response… good to know that there’s a regular beach volleyball meetup there. I was a golfer as well. Shot mid to upper 80s when my game was at its peak. 😅
Two basic things: - Don't live in close to central Pattaya. Get away from around that area. Nothing but temptation and distraction from living a regular life. - If you're a retiree, remember, just because the girls you can deal with are young doesn't mean you are!
Thing is, a bottle of beer is B60 and in Cambodia it is B37. Wake up Thailand, your next countries are taking your tourists. Wine in Thailand, what? B90. Ho chi minh city, B50. Greed drives away tourists. Plus price of visa fees despite 2 months free. Cambodia, 300 USD resident a year. No bank statement, no proof of income. No mercy. Send the illegal workers home and go back to fishing and farming.
Just retired a few years ago and dreamed of my life in Pattaya. Just spent the last year in Pattaya and moving back to the Philippines. The air pollution here is tremendous with the traffic, regional chemical fires, importation of toxic waste for disposal, trash burning, seasonal crop burning for 6 months, and then add the heat and humidity to it. Besides these things the food, massages, and nightlife here are great. Half the year the Philippines air quality is 3-4 times better. Northern Thailand received the award for the worst air pollution in the world this year, and 11 million people sought medical attention due to respiratory issues. Be back to visit for sure but not a long term solution here.
I love this perspective. Lot's of great information especially for comparison. If you come back to Thailand, I would love to do an interview about this topic? My Philippine experience is limited though I still go 2 times a year. Last year I finally went to Angelles City & Manilla. I liked Manilla better but wasn't impressed with either one. Personally I thought everything was dirty, there were beggars every where, hotel prices were double what I would normally pay in Thailand. Trying to get a taxi from the historic district to Makati was almost impossible. I ended up having to 5000 pesos for a normal 1000 peso fare. Nightlife was also very expensive as well. Although I did like Filipino food. i probably just need to expand to better areas. Anyway, I do appreciate your input. Thanks. Tom
I've only visited Hua Hin for short 2-4 day stays. I like Hua Hin though it's much smaller. I think Hua Hin has really modernized many of it's facilities. It definitely attracts more families as well. I also think Hua Hin cost more than Pattaya probably because lack of sheer competition and knowing tourist will pay more without question. Overall, I like Hua Hin and it's definitely growing on me more and more. Here's a videos I did in July on Hua Hin. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LQ36KiBZQoo.htmlsi=2B2VqyEt_pAB2Im- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jbp9JhzWIkc.htmlsi=imOO97PSOxaJWeMx
I have a 1 way ticket to Bangkok November 4th. I been thinking about where to go 😂. I’ follow s few RU-vidrs in Thailand, and I’m not interested in party areas , but looking for the beach areas . Small towns are fine with me as I’m coming from south Florida. I only need the beach to be satisfied. Hau Hin looks interesting so far . Any other suggestions?
Excellent time of the year. I think where you go depends on everything you need including talking to people in the same language you know. Places like Pattaya are great for the infrastructure, restaurants, shopping, and just overall things to do. Phuket & Krabi Have stunning beaches and islands, restaurants, shopping, & many things to do. Hua Hin & Cha-Am is still smaller tourist areas with restaurants, shopping & many things to do. The main tourist areas all have bars and nightlife but they are easy to avoid as well. There's just so many other things to do. There's also places like Bang Saray, Rayong, Trat, & Chumphon that have lonely beaches, thai style restaurants, few people & offer lots of thing to explore. Also expect the hotels to be Thai basic style with rock hard mattress. 😄 Anyway, Good Luck & Have Fun
@MargaritasinParadise Different strokes for Different folks..I've been to Pattaya a few times and definitely not on my list of places to retire to, a few places I prefer are Krabi, Chiang Mai, or Hua Hin just to name a few.
Living in Pattaya since 3 months. Moving from chiang mai. I never visited a bar in the 3 months. I just enjoy living near the beach with great weather.
If you want to live legally in Thailand you must have either 800k baht left in the bank or transfer 67000 baht monthly into a Thai bank. Then there is the living expenses and let’s not forget the now enforced Thai tax law for transfers into the country. So many more items to list. Good luck all!
Good information about Retirement visa requirements but they're so many more options. As far as the new tax law goes, nothings being enforced yet. The new regulation took effect 1 Jan 2024 but won't see implementation until late 2025. Even that's under review. Here's some recent news which corroborates the original intent of the law. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uIcwKvWyM78.html Here's a good article as well from Siam-Legal www.siam-legal.com/thailand-law/thailand-new-tax-on-foreign-income-an-overview/ Thanks again for your input.
I live in Wong Amat Garden Beach maps.app.goo.gl/yg4we4ADabcjZ3yd6 All the condos are setup as 46-48sqm studios. Many have been converted into multi-room condos as well, some units have been joined together by 2-4 units creating massive condos. Base prices probably start around $60K and go up. But you never know, there's always places for sale here.
If you can lay your hands on some Canadian deodorant called super deodorant. It comes in a small metal tin. If dispensing it right every day one tin will last you approximately four months or longer? This deodorant works for more than 24 hours. You can use it in more places than just your pits. I mean, I’ve searched for all natural deodorant for years. I can’t stand scented things. But this deodorant really works! It’s life-changing literally! lol I’m not kidding if you can get some get some. Next time you go back to the states have it delivered to an address where you can receive it from. Once you get to where you’re going with the product put the containers that are unused in the freezer and keep one out until it’s gone. Grab another one out of the freezer before you need it. That will help unused cans from going rancid. Leaving a can out for four months is no big deal neither. But if you had eight cans of that, it would last you approximately two years, I would guess. You wash your under arms or wherever you put the product you don’t have to reapply so if you’re taking multiple showers in one day, you lightly wash towel off and get dressed you don’t need to put deodorant on . Once every couple days, you scrub those areas and reapply deodorant. I’m telling you this stuff works for 24 hours with no stink !!! It’s a yellow metal like an old snuff can. It says “super deodorant” and I don’t get paid a thing!!! I should get on their affiliate program!!! lol
Lions Chiefs I’m from Michigan, but it’s hard to be at Lions fan! They’re good right now at least they’re winning by a point or two every game instead of losing by a point or two!!!! lol I’ve been watching some videos about Chiang Mai. That area looks real interesting to me. I’ll definitely have to check out your area. That’s all I really need is a air condition Mall and a movie theater and some good restaurants. I’m not that big of a beach person anyway. If I go to the beach, I’m going to rent a covered seat. I’m not sitting in the sun. I’ll go out in the sun for 10 minutes and then I’m going to be back in the shade . I just retired August 1 from a 35 year career with the operating engineers. I hope to start traveling Southeast Asia in about 10 to 12 months. But I’m having issues with separation anxiety on all my stuff. I’m getting rid of all the stuff I know I’m not going to use and I’m going to store the necessities for restarting a household in my basement and I’m going to put a deadbolt on that door. I’m going to have my house remodeled, and the only person that will have the key will be the builder my nephew. If I decide not to stay in Southeast Asia, I’ll be coming back to newly remodeled house ready to move back in and hopefully by then I’ll be done with collecting crap. I have way too much crap. I’m going to haul a load of junk over to Goodwill tomorrow. Thanks for the great videos lots of good information. Hope to see you someday over there in Thailand.
Wow, I think you wrote my story, seems like we are the same. I followed the Chief's in the worse years, threatened many times to switch sides. At one point I felt like I was a prisoner to my personnel possessions. I literally had buildings full of "crap". My father came to my rescue. He suggested, If I wanted to make a change and possibly go to Thailand. To rent a storage unit. Then put everything that I couldn't live without in that storage unit. He suggested to keep going back to my possessions and making sure I didn't want anything else. I did exactly this. Then I hired an auctioneer. She told me my estate would bring approximately $25K in my pocket. Personally I thought that was light as I was thinking more like $100K. But that just goes to show you, your stuff is only worth as much as the buyer is willing to pay for it. The auction took 2 days. When it was done everything was gone. It was like a massive weight was taken off my chest. The auctioneer's office sent me check for $56K which I was pleasantly surprised. Turned out I sold 43 guns that brought over face value besides other items as well. Unfortunately, I still have this storage unit. I've been paying $125 month on it for over 5 years and haven't spent 10 minutes in it in years. I keep thinking maybe someday I will need that crap. Someday, I will probably make a video about this. Sorry about rambling on. Go Lions! Good Luck, Tom
Congratulations, December is an awesome time to be Thailand, people say it's the best weather (cold for me 😄😄😄). You'll have a great time. & When you get here, make sure you touch bases with me!
I'm always arriving too late. I love the inflation story here Thailand. I'm mixed on this. I see that Thailand isn't really affected by inflation in many ways unless your dealing with tourism. Fuel prices, baht bus rates, standard thai hotels, Thai street food, general services, motorbikes, building a home (away from a tourist area), & fruit just to name a few cost the same as it did in 2006. If you added Tourism to the mix, everything skyrockets in price. Many people live outside the tourist markets and just want to keep the secret a secret. 🤫 Anyway, Thanks for the ideas.
I think one of my ex girlfriends didnt learn the lesson that thais are not supposed to raise them voices. She screamed her head off at me when she found out i was cheating with another girl. And she whacked a lampshade over my head. I never raised my voice all i did was laugh, she didnt like that 555
I agree. You definitely have a wealth of experience in Thailand with 19 years. Any chance you would consider doing an Interview with me on "Everybody Has a Story"? If so, please send me your contact info to margaritasinparadise@gmail.com
