does this work if the reason there is a gap is bc of uneven floor in an older home? i installed new baseboards and it left gaps

So you just use the paint to fill the small gap between the molding and baseboard? No caulk?

good design, but the finish was not the best. You should sand it down to get all the saw marks off before you stain. Otherwise nice.

NEVER use 5 1/2 imch screws in a wall, lol. 3 inch is the max you should ever use and 2 1/2 inch are almost always sufficient.
