Warfare during the medieval period was incredibly ferocious. When they weren't being slaughtered by arrows raining down from the sky, soldiers were hacked or pounded to death by swords, axes and hammers. Here are just some of the bloodiest battles of that grisly era. Most medieval battles had defined formations that were buckling, shoving, holding, or marching. . Join me to explore all the aspects of the Hundred Years War, and other medieval periods, providing historical narrative and insight combined with inspiring photos and Videos of Battle reports and significant Historical battles Reenactments. The Channel will also try to address various aspects of the miniature wargames hobby, including painting techniques, the construction of scenery, suggested rules , Miniature Showcases ,Miniature Manufacturers and Heraldry
Thank you David glad you enjoyed the review. Yes grid is an acquired taste although it can be very easily House ruled to remove but the rules are very innovative and easy to pick up. Thank you for watching my friend!
Interesting stuff. Certainly different from the standard. Well done, Nik. Been sick all week. Will talk to you soon this coming Thurs./Friday. Take care. ~K
@vividius7951 yes I had the feeling that you meant larger sizes and you are correct 54mm are beautiful and I can only imagine that big armies would look amazing but again space would be an issue.
An excellent overview of these interesting rules Nic.. There is much to like in this system and You rightly say House Rules can be introduced fairly easy .. For me the plus point is the area combat / movement systematic allows You to make choices of troop types within that area ,this along with the Special tactics that can be used makes the game more challenging.. Thank You for sharing this ...
Thank you dear Ray glad you enjoyed the review! Yes i have to say i liked the rules very easy to pick up and some really interesting concepts! Thank you for watching my friend!
Great informative vid as always! These rules have peeked my interest given i enjoy the Rampant series, great for beginners like myself. When i have rinsed through the current ruleset im playing (War of the Republic) out of my system, i will definetly give Arrowstorm a shot. Thanks MWG! 😊
Yes i agree it is a very interesting Rule set and work quite well! No the rules don't have WOR lists but unit attributes are very basic ( only the Battle Rating) and the modifiers are ''universally Medieval'' if you get my meaning for example spears get a +1 Die against Mounted or Mounted against Warriors ( infantry) you will have no issue at all using the HYW armies or creating yourself.. very easy. Thank you for watching and commenting my friend!
Interesting rules set, not too sure I’d play it with being grid based. But it has some interesting things going for it. Maybe be see how the lads are games with at the club fancy it. Thanks for reviewing it.
Yes i have the same opinion a fun and innovative set that is worth trying out . Very different concept and philosophy from other Rules and very easy to pick up. Thank you for watching my friend!
He is an ancestor of Barack Obama. You'll find that the majority of the presidents of the United States are descendants of King John, I think it's actually most people of English ancestry. Further back, all of us with European ancestry are actually descended from Charlemagne, Holy Roman Emperor
Really?!! I was not aware of this. Yes the Charlemagne lineage I heard before.. Although being Greek I was hopping I am a descended of Leonidas or Alexander the Great.. hahaha. Thank you for watching and for your very interesting comment my friend! By the way William de Bohun is one of my favorite HYW Nobles.
Great review. There's similar app called Warhall and it's been built specifically for rank and file games. I thought you might be interested checking that out too.
Great review. I have jumped around so much with ancients rule sets, it's crazy. I've never been keen on the tournament style rules sets, DBM, DBMM, FoG, MeG and ADLG etc, all variations on a theme and all seem to lack the immersion, I could almost play with coloured blocks of wood. I'm not that keen on skirmish or card driven games so that rules a bunch more out. I used to really like Warhammer Ancients Battles years ago but it's a dead system now and I don't have my books anymore, I dislike trying to encourage people to play dead games where they can't even get the books if they are interested. Now we tend to play Hail Caesar but that is really for bigger games and lacks the character that WAB had with the heroes and special units and also To the Strongest (upon which I'm still undecided. I will have a look now to see if you have a review of Swordpoint (my main periods of interest are the Punic Wars and the Crusades so it will need to be able to cater to both) and I'll look at Impetus in greater detail too. I had Basic Impetus when it was first released but it never appealed back then. I've never been keen in locking myself into a basing system that won't work with other rules.
Thank you Edward glad you enjoyed the review my friend! I get your point i am not a big fun of these Rules either although DBA 3 is good and i have played a few games. Obviously Rules preference is an acquired taste. I like HC makes for fast big game that otherwise might have taken many hours..i would check SWORDPOINT for sure one of my favorite rules and the rule set i have quite a lot of content for. Particularly i would advise you to check the ''master class'' series from the Author and also Wayne one of the original game testers you will get a very good idea of the mechanics and philosophy of Swordpoint. Also if you like crusades check Soldiers of God a ruleset only for the crusades. Thank you for watching my friend!
@@MedievalWargamer Thanks. All of your reviews are very helpful. It sounds like you favour Swordpoint over Impetus these days? Good to know. I like buying and trying rules but it gets costly if they get read then never come off the bookshelf, especially as the armies for the Crusades are split across two books for Impetus due to the timeline cut offs. That perhaps could have been better thought out.
Really a fun platform with thousands of board games and miniature wargames available. I highly recommend it if you are looking for some fun outside the miniature hobby. Thank you for watching my friend!
