hello! I write and create videos on classical painting techniques for Acrylics and Oil for beginners. How to use simple principles to improve your art in simple step-by-step tutorials.
Hi Will. I have just stumbled onto your page and am beyond thrilled. I live on a farm in South Africa, so going to painting classes is out for me😢. I love your peony painting, but cannot see the follow up classes after the introduction. Have you filmed them yet or am I doing something wrong? Can't wait to get painting. Thank you for putting your talents out for others to enjoy. Very much appreciated😊
what an amazing lesson. So well done! I am powerless to resist: this will be tomorrow' s morning painting. And its free?!! Will Kemp is the best...can we nominate him for a Webby Award. If you are new to Will Kemp I recommend checking out all his lessons as so many are free...his lessons have turned my skills around....as well as being an inspiration year after year. His unflagging encouragement and gentleness are priceless.
Mr. Kemp, this was the first painting video I fully viewed (multiple times lol) when I first felt a draw (no pun intended) to creating art/images with acrylic paint. I had been drawing my whole life, but had no experience with any brush applied medium. 10+ years later, I am still painting. Im not famous (lol obviously lol), Im not wealthy, I dont even sell paintings, I only create for personal satisfaction. My point is simple, ur initial guidance fueled that spark & sent me down a path that gave me so much more than material wealth or recognition, u gave me joy. Thank u & wishing u all the best!!!
I've been doing art since I was 2 but I had to take a massive step back. I'm finally back at wanting to make art so I'm studying mixed medias starting with acrylics
Found you on the post about hanging paintings and noticed your tutorial links, in particular, the one about Cornish Winter light. St. Ives is my favourite place in the world. Had a holiday home in Hayle when I was married and frequented St.Ives. This is someone from California speaking. Every artist should experience this breathtaking coastal light this charming seaside town is known for. So many beautiful galleries.
Have you got any suggestions for blending with acrylics? They dry so darn fast, I've had some trouble getting this lovely blending effect after I've blocked in my colors. Of course, getting faster at painting might help! But perhaps there is a method that might work in the meantime? Or if you have posted a video on this already, please link, and thank you so much! Your paintings are always elegant and deceptively "simple!"
thank you Wills love this. So wonderful watching you painting and the way you mix your colours so beautiful. What is the beautiful piano piece in the background it is so lovely . Thanks Isabel
Carlson’s book is considered the “bible for landscape artists”….the importance of value in these landscape planes. Thank you for the wonderful 3D rendering of these principles. Well done!
This is without doubt the best tutorial I’ve ever watched. I’ve really struggled with shading and end up making a mess, I’m so happy with how my painting turned out. I intend to follow and do more of your tutorials, hopefully it greatly improves my technique.
Thanks Will - I took you up on this and bought the course! These paints are relatively new to me, so looking forward to throwing myself into the course.
I guess I'm not that much a fan of pure purple or red purples. I tend to see the magenta (Barney purple) in them and don't like it. My favorite purple is a blurple color like the second from the right in the bottom row. Thank you so much for this lesson! It really shows you how unexpected colors can turn out when mixing them. Especially if you are not well versed in color bias and how that changes things.
