I had an issue with water hammer with rainbird ASV a couple times. I found that the Hunter valves seem to open slower and help prevent this from happening. Also Hunter ASV will close at a lower flow rate than rainbird. But the rainbird build does seem to be better. Great video and great mustache
Rachio is absolute garbage! It’s a smart controller that is useless if you have more than one valve set. If you install two Rachio units they don’t function as one unit. They are connected units that are not aware of each other to deconflict their individual schedules to preserve water pressure and instead function as separate units making scheduling a nightmare. I’ve switched to OpenSprinkler as a result. No wifi issues, smaller units, multiple units can function as one integrated system and they’re cheaper.

Do you service SW Florida, lol. Just a short drive from Cali.... Gonna try your suggestion now and will let you know if it worked for me. Update: Bit of bad luck and calling a sprinkler man. When I opened the box with the valves, it was making a lot of noise yet most of it is buried under dirt....way above my pay grade but I do enjoy making DIY repairs whenever possible. This one just isn't possible :)

Im getting water hammer so I put a pressure guage on the spigot and it said about 50 psi. If I reduce the shut off valve on the irrigation line from full to 45 degrees, all water hammer goes away. Do you know why this happens? I'm not even high pressure.
@@sprinklerboss Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions other than pressure reducing valve to fix this? I was thinking of reducing the flow from the valve outside.
@@possession3929 try reducing the flow like you said. I’ve seen that work or reduce the flow (demand) on that high demand zone(s) by installing low flow heads, like MP rotators.
My system was installed in 1990 and no problems till this yr when 1 station wouldn't turn off. Checked multiple videos and yours had the answer. All that was wrong was the solenoid was not tight. Snugged it up and problem solved. No other video I looked at recommended checking it first like u did. Thank you so very much.

Great video - clear, to the point, easy to understand. I've got a nearly new valve that's leaking like the one in this video, and I highly suspect there's debris stuck in there because I had to modify the PVC plumbing that was leading up to it. Probably got some PVC bits in there. Never knew it was this easy to check it out. Thank you!!
I have a similar issue. The only way I can shut off the water is either shutting off the main water supply or unplugging the sprinkler controller from the wall outlet. What exactly could be my issue

Have you adjusted your prices since this video came out? I'm looking to get into this business and got a vendor to price all material needed to install 5 4.5w Vista bullet fixtures for trees came out to $560. Leaving 440 for profit seems a bit low on profit
I had this condition and after opening the valve noticed the diaphragm was kind of brittle, so I got a kit and replaced it. How old would you say a diaphragm would be before it needs replacing? Mine was almost 20 years.
I bought a house with an old water irrigation system that isn't working anymore and leaking. Does anyone know how much it cost to remove the old system?
Some people have no sense obviously never done it. The glue won't even settle in 20 minutes 😂 crazy how people claim to take that long or even pressurize the system..
