Everything about Cyrus faces outward, and for Shireen, everything turns inward, because their world is so small, there are no opportunities so the people they lash out at are the people who are closest to them, like their children. Fantastic insights, thank you!
Nostalgia for a time that may not have actually been great, but is familiar, is so bittersweet. You may not want to go back, but you are tired of moving forward
This book seems to be heavily inspired by a Puerto Rican author, Xavier Navarro and his novel Velorio which came out in 2022 from Harpervia, Harper Collins. There are many Puerto Rican writer publishing regularly in and out of Puerto Rico. I think the comment he made in an interview about a micro scene in poetry and “maybe 2 books a year” in fiction is incorrect and very disappointing and offensive coming from a professor. Give respect and credit where it’s due: Marta Aponte(crime fiction), Mayra Santos Febres, Luis Otoniel (crime fiction), Rosa Rodriguez, Luis Negron, Josue Montijo (crime fiction), Xavier Navarro and many others that deserve credit. Please be mindful of putting comments out there that do a disservice to our community and diminishes all the hard work they have done. This is erasure.
Recently finished THI WRETCHED VALLEY and was curious to see others' opinions. I liked it, by the way. After doing a search, i came across your channel. Both segments were pretty good, and i wound up moving things around to read BLACK SHEEP. I've been binge watching videos and really enjoy the channel. Please don't stop and continue to make these fun and informative videos. Take care!!
Huge fan of Michael, not so much of James .... however, watching this video made me very interested. I've reserved a copy with my local library. Thanks for these videos.
One of my favorite reads. I listened to this book and got mad at myself when I couldn't finish the whole thing in a day.... I do like Tom Sawyer and I do like of my sin men.But this needs to be added
Very important stuff! I like how the author connected the past and the present. And recoked with it! She is very intelligent. I will definitely be purchasing this book! 📖
Just heard an interview with John Sullivan on PBS evening news. He sounded very intelligent and impressive. Mentioned what he encountered in regard to Trump. It wasn’t flattering and after that he would vote for him. What a disappointment.
I tried out two simple dishes: the peanut chaat--a perfect afternoon snack--then her easy dinner of stir-fried cabbage with rice and a dab of yogurt. They won me over! Drinks, party food, exciting culinary mash-ups, and an unexpected homage to Taco Bell. Her writing about the Indian American community is warm and detailed. This book is a winner!
My grandma was just telling me how she had to move to Cincinnati because there was no work here in Corbin Kentucky at the time her and her brothers moved in with an uncle and worked at shoe factory. She would keep saving, she met my grandfather there he sewed the uppers and she slacked the shoes. her father passed away then she moved home to help take care of the land.
My family also come from there ,they ended up in Cleveland and Dayton paper mills. Most of the family returned home at their retirement, my father stayed in Dayton, and really regrets it.
It’s so predictable that all the books that are currently promoted have a racial/colonisation or gender-related theme…DEI has killed culture. I am tired of being lectured to.
It's interesting because I'm conversely not a full blown fantasy fan but I I love magical realism .. It sounds like there's a lot going on here what with jellyfish and time travel but I will read some reviews and check it out!
I think I need to try again with this book. The first time I tried to read it, I struggled - mostly because I felt like I wasn’t smart enough for it. But I’m so intrigued! I thoroughly enjoyed this interview.
