I drive a 2018 T800 18 speed ultra shift. Ive driven manual 18 as well but to be honest the ultra shift has grown on me a lot. I can tell you that i discovered whenever you’re empty and come to a red light. You can put it in M and upshift to 5th or 6th gear and when you take off you have two options which are to continue using the manual mode and shift up or just before your RPM gets to 1800 you can put it in D and the gears will shift up by 2-4 gears depending on how levelled the road is. This has helped me take off faster than a lot of standard trucks.
I was driving an automatic Mack got stuck on the mud while everybody else was in a manual rig ripping their way out I was the only one left behind boss sold the truck next he said and I quote “pice of shit automatic always getting stuck”
These labcoat dummies have no real world experience. They also make life hell for drivers. You must be in a brand new one. Put some miles on it and tell me how well it works. Nobody needs this. 🎉
It's trash. It doesn't work in fog and has stomped on the brakes throwing me out of the seat and having people give me the finger and cut me off because it can't figure out an exit lane it construction lines on the ground. I refuse to drive them. No way. I have a 2005 10 speed manual and would take breakdowns with this over that crap any day.
It’s dangerous. The truck takes total control over the brakes and steering. The driver is caught off guard, the entire system is disturbing. I can’t believe the department of transportation approved this. I just wonder how many accidents are caused by the ACC.
If the 990 is smoother, I would take it. 30 years trucking has been hard on my body. I haul crude over a 9114 foot pass with 8% grades. My company is giving me one of these next month. I am used to the W9.
Kenworth has to do better than this . I love the look but it's the inside mainly the frig what a joke and more space and storage and the cb hole why limit me to a small no power having cb. And last you should make both chrome stacks work. I would like to see a taller cab so you could pull a van trailer without just killing your fuel mileage. Still love the look.
This truck is going to be the stick that broke the camel's back and I'm going to go someplace else where somebody doesn't have one of these please put on a video on how to disable the whole program
You are high in order to get out and get around them in the left lane you need to wait for that car in the left lane to get up to the car that's in front of you and by then 25 cars already in the left lane and you're stuck in the right. Again you are high h i g h
I don't think you drove it enough I think you need to drive at 100,000 miles. I think you need to drive it through chicago. I think you need to drive it with 80,000 lb on. I think you need to drive it when people cut in front in your buffer space and then hit the brakes and then watch how it push it through the windshield. I think this system built for a person like you with adhd.
Heard you talking about nose and visibility .. Would appreciate example in the video. Maybe next time. I kinda like W900 as you sit and radiator cap right side points to the road side line and you know where you are. Running left with 53' behind and nose to right of the line, just cap width and you're right. Right curve and top left corner of the radiator/hood on the center line and it's fine spot. Like in all old tractors I think. But with those modern ones, almost without a nose/hood .. not quite sure. On the other hand, W990 seems to have more aerodynamic style, less noise of wind hissing around, and despite it's sorta less roomy the interior seems way more practical for solo/couple driving/living inside (in studio size of course). So thanks for a ride.
Two badass trucks, the 990 looks so massive and beautiful in person. It’s much bigger looking than the 900. The 900 has big canned breathers tho that the 990 doesn’t have. Also, the 900 has old school headlights that are nice. Yikes, it’sld be nice to own both!
I got pulled over at colorado wheigh station. He asked me if I have a manual transmission or automatic. I told him it is automated manual transmission. Since I have restriction on my drivers license for AT only. He didn't bother to come and check if I was driving a manual.
I hate it. I hate it. This device is for new drivers. It's very aggravating plus it reads everything else, but what's in front of you most of the time? How to bypass this? I unhook mine, but I can't use my. Cruise control now
There are a lot of varying comments on this topic, a lot of them are made from spite or lack of experience. I own a T800 with the 18spd and I am pushing 50 now. The dam thing wares me out! I want an automatic, in a bad way. I haul fines, all ranges of sizes of aggregate, also asphalt. Most places are very tight and holding a clutch for 15 minutes will try your temperament. I come home each day with a aching knee and a worn-out hip. I will be up grading to the automatic, as soon as, I can.
I drove a 10 speed autmated that had a clutch pedal in it absolutely loved it do they still make that one it was a joy nice to back up with and you could manually shift it with a T shaped stick which was nice going down hill you could control speed better then in traffic you could let it do its thing absolutely the nicest setup that i ever drove been at it for almost 60 years would like to have another
Honestly I think the biggest problem with automatic transmission on trucks is not really the automatic it self but the lack of training for when you do need to use manual gears on slopes and different grades, me personally have learned how to set the gear to sit in going down hill and controls the automatic truck with the engine still, manual forces you to learn and have that control wile automatic you need to teach your self that control in the situations that need it.
2007 W900 blows is WAY better! This truck is so heavy duty that I survived head on collision with another semi. The other driver that caused the accident died at the scene and I somehow survived. I not only survived the first initial impact of course I’ve got severe injuries, but I’m alive! But had it not Ben for another driver at the scene of the accident reacting as fast as they did he got me out of my rig literally seconds before it was completely engulfed in flames, but I can tell you right now these trucks will melt and burn to the ground in less than 20 minutes. These trucks are so bad that I’m buying another one today!
Where in the hell do y'all need six axles at? That's not but 21-yard dunk. I'm from Florida and we got Travis and we allow $76, 000 Alabama's all 82.5. where in the hell do you need six cycles at? That's freaking crazy
