For many years I have been interested in the railway's around Burton Upon Trent.

There is a variety of motive power and workings which go through the Derby-Birmingham main line DBP1 and the second lines which diverge onto the main lines from Leicester KSL Lichfield BJW3 and Stoke on Trent NSS

I will share with you what I see legally from various local locations and record this on my smartphone with minimal equipment hope you enjoy

Let's take a look

The train operators need to put pressure on the yards to carry out inspection and repairs when required
@stephensmith4480
@stephensmith4480 2 месяца назад
The problem is there is no Routine patrolling of the yards anymore, the only time P-Way appear is when you report a fault. When I started on the job 35 years ago you had a specific day each week for an inspection.

@@JonBowe Is that a fact? I have been on the Railway for nearly 35 yrs, I have worked for DB since they took over from EWS And I have never seen it yet. The only time They come out is when you report a problem so I would love to know what sites you are talking about and I will take it up with my local Manager as to why we are not getting the same level of service.

A lovely model railway, I have a lot of interest in Duffield my Grandad was a permanent way man on this section before WW2 and bought up my Dad his brother and two sisters in one of the railway cottages that you have modelled however during the war they moved to Derby for work reasons. My family is also associated with the Peckwash mill disaster the engine driver being my Great Uncle. Thank you for sharing this video.

TRACK COLOUR !!!! Track in the steam era would NOT have remained clean for more than a few weeks, after fresh ballast was laid, on any reasonably well used line. Why? Because all trains had cast iron brake blocks (in the days before "Disc brakes"), that pressed against the wheel tread when the brakes were applied. Creating clouds of fine brake block dust that went rapidly a rusty colour. Further toilets on board trains dumped their contents directly onto the track, (before the advent of Chemical toilets) and you should be able to imagine what colour that was, splattered all over the track !!! Further steam locos also contributed to the mess. With oil & grease flying off moving parts, & leaking from lubricator boxes. They also deposited soot from their chimneys (& sparks causing lineside fires), clouds of coal dust blown out of tenders, and also sent straight up the chimney when the fireman is "firing" ! Indeed the mess created was NOT confined to the track, but spread usually some feet either side of the tracks. So also covering platform faces, bridge abutments & tunnel walls. This is another reason why "Speed Restriction" signs were always of the stencil type, so even when covered by "Track Colour" they could still be read !!! As a result railway paint specialists such as Precision Paints, & Railmatch (Howes of Oxford) have included such colours as "Sleeper Grime" & "Track Colour" in their ranges for DECADES !!!
