Two similar personalities of polite, reserved , classy gentlemen with almost a hint of introversion. Its no wonder they're two birds that flocked together. Their playing styles , though one is heavier, but is also similar. Both are careful in what they play. Today's and yesterdays faster playing & more technical players is by choice. It doesn't mean they're better. Tony plays within the song with a goal of a melodic, catchy riffs for the fans. Thus, u can recall, and quickly recognize his riffs 50 years later! Opposed to all these slayer , megadeath and many others where speed becomes a forgetable song, and just annoying with fewer memorable riffs. Why Priest balances out some fast with some slow, med songs.
Black Sabbath never scared me, even at 12 or 13 or so. I wanted heavy, but sabbath were conmsidered acid rock in those days. Since coined the term heavy metal tho.
A God given talent to a Left handed genius walking on this earth with DNA frim the discoverors of the science of the muical note, putting it down on paper, then inverting the instruments to manifest what sounds are going on in their mind.
I saw Black Sabbath in 1973 (I think), and I'm so glad I did. I was with my then-girlfriend Esther, and we emerged with ears ringing (this is normal, but not great for future hearing). Tony Iommi influenced my own guitar playing (those great hammer on/offs along with other things...) like he will never know! I've played a few gigs in my time, without any real push for commercial success. I don't care about that, but I still play my guitar in my modest studio...and when I play rock, it's Iommi-like, because it transcends all areas of rock, especially rock-metal.As big an influence as Hendrix. Hats off, man.
Sir Brian and Tony should play together more often. Maybe produce some music together. I liked the Paranoid sound with both of them. It would be a remarkable event. Something every guitar player would want to see.
I was around 12 when i discovered Black Sabbath. I remember buying magazines like Total Guitar and Guitar Techniques, youd get a cd with it so you could play along etc.. the first one was war pigs on the cd that is and i had to learn it, the next was paranoid . I nailed it, i was well chuffed with myself and now theyre one of my favourite bands of all time.. you tend to respect music more when you see how much effort goes into it. The 70s was the time of awesome metal.. sabbath, zeppelin etc. When folks say rock is dead they dont mean that its actually dead what they mean is is that bands like those will never be seen again, well they will but without so much recognision
Part of the 'accidental' Black Sabbath sound is prob a very dead room. Only the vocals have reverb on them. It is SO WEIRD that if Tony Iommi hadn't had that mishap with the metal chopper, and had gone to Germany, Black Sabbath prob wouldn't have happened. Maybe it was God, since I won't say it was the Devil, bc Sabbath bring too much joy to be from the Devil. Sabbath is God laughing at the Devil, saying 'I can do this better than YOU'.
@@richardhincemonThat means nothing to me. I have no interest in bringing their music to more people. That ballet sucked. And Tommy on Broadway sucked.
@@OldRuntYour not in Black Sabbath or speaking for all Black Sabbath fans. The first time I saw Black Sabbath was in 1972 Park Center with Wild Turkey great show bought Battle Hymm the next day thanks to Black Sabbath. So glad that Tony Iommi is turning more people on to their music scene since Sabbath retired in 2017 the End Tour .
