Thanks! That's something I have never seen in over 35 years of installing deadbolts. Have used lipstic on the end of the bolt to do the same thing when doing 5" backset deadbolts and the strike locator tool is to short to use. Make sure to do all the adjustments on the lock that latches the door before starting deadbolt installation.
This is a million times better than the wanna be DIYer videos on YT for this issue. Thank you And good grief. People need to stop being so lazy and read the description on where to get the product. 😂
I prefer to open the strike plate up with a special grinding tool I have vs making additional mortises. Looks better and works the same. Typically takes me 30 seconds
lol I'm a non-pro and could just use a spade, and know w here the strike plate would align with the lock on the door, way too complicated and talkative like everyone else said. also robotic or monotone voice. disliked!
I just bought a new door that came with a lock, but it is not aligned with the round hole in the door Jamb. I have to raise it 1 full inch. How do I do that with a pre-existing hole. Do I fill it in one half of the circle with liquid wood fill, and drill another half circle above that other circle? Thanks!
The best way to fill in the mortise, is to cut a piece of hard wood the size of the mortise and glue it in place. Using a wood chisel square up the mortise so it has a uniform width and depth. Next measure the depth and width, then cut a piece of hardwood to fit the opening. Then you will need to make a new hole to line up with your lock.
@@punchpointtoolsllc811 Thanks for your reply! Could I not just chisel out a new hole first so i will know how much i need to fill in with the new piece. What is a mortise? Thanks!
@@punchpointtoolsllc811 Awesome hear! i will ordering a bunch soon. I install new doors all the time and aligning the strike plates has always been annoying and time consuming. It was always a trial and error type thing. This seem to take all the guess work out of it.
@@stronglifelived4sure394 Good Morning. Here is a link for the tools. Please let me know if you have any other questions. www.woodcarverssupply.com/9-12mm-MASTERCARVER-TOOL/productinfo/401094/
Awesome thanks for this. I was trying to use a flat head screw driver as a short cut (the hardware store is 45mins away) and it was just ugly. Going to have to make the trip.
