I utterly adore films and TV shows, and I think there's so much more to learn and appreciate about them than many people realise. So, welcome to my channel, where I make videos about just that!
I really hope you enjoy my videos and that they achieve my aim of giving you a deeper and more appreciative understanding of what goes into making the magical moving picture things that we all love so much so damn magical!
I also hope my videos will inspire you to watch (or rewatch) some of the films and shows I'll discuss whilst helping you learn something new about these films/shows or just the art of moving pictures.
I aim to post roughly one video every fortnight/whenever I can make them (and these will generally be quite comprehensive!)
8:10 hahahaha this movie is garbage written by a writer who just wants to vent his anger, but he vented his anger with excellent direction. The Jews are no less bad than Nazis. Frankly, they are as bad as Nazis, but I have to admit that they are more intelligent. Palestine, the recent events and killing of thousands of Palestinian civilians currently, and the testimonies of Jews who hate Zionism. Sufficient evidence. Perhaps your point is that the Jews of this period are less bad than the Nazis, but despite this film, you feel that its depth is less than a film like Django Unchained. The film resembles my childhood fantasies when I imagine myself and Kurdish revolutionaries killing Saddam Hussein’s soldiers.
I never rooted for the IBs. They committed war crimes and justified it because the other guy was bad too. It really hits when they murder the pow officer
The idea that violence is inherently justified if someone belongs to a specified group that is designated as morally wrong or reprehensible is about as slippery as a slope can be. The problem is that morality is not a set condition. It evolves and can change.
You forgot to add two films he wrote and yet did not direct, "Natural Born Killers" and "True Romance" where the protagonist where still evil and we still had to route for them. Just throwing that out there.
Both cliff and almost more poignantly Rick express a total lack of remorse for the reverse-Manson murders, not on the basis of their identity as home-invading homicidal cultists, but under the pretext that they were hippies fulfilling hippy nature. Even Rick is an extremely hateful and bigoted character.
The movie tempts the idea actually that cliff would have more solidarity with *hippies* if he didn’t possess certain timely cultural attitudes towards their boss less lifestyles.
I don’t think anyone watches these movies and totally loses the thread on the fact that every single character is some variation of a psychopath tho, even as it peeks out in Steve buscemi’s fuck waitresses speech.
I actually find butch Coolidge to be the most toxic of the three male protagonists if only for the fact that he constantly spins the wheel of fate for himself and his wife while trying to do nothing but maintain a macguffin with entirely symbolic purpose
Like his insane committment to the watch and the fact that he appears to have modeled his life around father-centric survivor’s guilt, while oddly becoming a prize fighter instead of a literal soldier(maybe butch has a gen-x libertarian disdain for the American military concerns of the late 20th century), is what makes him more dangerously chaotic than Jules or Vincent.
I’ve never found Tarantino movies to be that good and I can never explain why. I wonder if it’s because since everyone sucks I have no investment in the character’s stories and survival
Hugo Stiglits is my favourite morally corrupt character PS im here at 16.1k subscribers this channel is gonna blow up soon your in depth analysis of the books you referenced as well as the modern flawless editing makes you stand out from the rest
Or course a brit would have this take. Look man, sometimes people have to do horrible things to terrible people. Thats what makes his movies so good. It highlights the indifference in literally every human being thats ever ex
This actually happened already at early 70's when The Godafher came to be the big hit. The crime boss Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) and his son Michael (Al Pacino) who in the end of the movie took his place and became to be the most ruthless and violent don in New York, were both more admired than anything else by the audience. The charismatic actors, clever direction by Francis F. Coppola and beautyful music by Nino Rota made people falling in love with this story over generations.
One of the tiny details people might miss is that the soldier dying bravely in the bat scene is not wearing an SS uniform but the regular german army uniform , i think this was done intentionally to show the bastards didnt care if you were SS or not
One of the things I noticed in this film was Nolan's use of sound as a narrative device. There are very specific reasons of silence vs. sound in the film and it's challenging to unpack the narrative drive behind the choices.
Everyone knew these characters were bad guys you just watching it through there point of view and often the people you are rooting for are worse people and the movie you used as a thumbnail is a very good example of that and these are just movies it's escapism just like playing a game like Red Dead GTA or any other movie show book story or anything else of that nature I wouldn't read to much in it there are also a lot of movies stories games book myths and everything about good people willing to sacrifice everything to defeat the forces of evil and save the world
I think his most heroic character that he’s ever written/ good guy might have been Dr. Shultz. A dentist turned Bounty Hunter. I don’t remember the reason of they even said. He did pay for Django, and kill the slavers horse, he still could’ve just used Django for what he used him for then left him to his own devices. Instead he helped him find Broomhilda and hated the person who was Calvin Candy for how he treated everyone on his land
So what now?? You make a video on Deadpool being a piece of shit right? You make a video on Batman being a piece of shit cause he’s just a vigilante. You my friend suck.
The only true hero that Tarantino has written, in my opinion, is Django. He seems to have the purest of intentions, even if he did treat other slaves pretty badly as a way to "intrigue" the true villians like Calvin Candy.
I thought Inglorious bastards where a bunch of horrible war criminals and I never routed for them through the film, but I studied history...there are no good guys in humanity
Btw in an interview, QT said ‘in a regular fight,Cliff wouldn’t stand a chance against BL. BUT by giving no resistance to his move, Cliff ‘tricked’ Bruce into showing it to him-& human nature is to use the same move that’s already worked. So Cliff is ready for it & can use it to his advantage, thus he’s able to dodge the kick & from his own fighting experience, throws him into the car
Enjoyed the commentary & starting w/ an interview w/ one of the best to do it, Mr. Charlie Rose, was a good idea… Subbed (Thought I did after your IB/PF vid on sympathetic bad guys) ,
Good video but i have to challenge your assetation of your own morality as an objective concept. Morality has never been objective. From a certain perspective....😊
